Through her unique afrofuturism-inspired music, Enongo/Sammus tackles mental health, identity, race and feminism while cultivating a strong following of activists, hip hop heads, punks, and proud geeks alike. The film blends vérité footage with hand-drawn animation created entirely by an all-Black women team - the first in the history of feature filmmaking - bringing to life the interior world behind the public persona: her Ithaca upbringing, years teaching in Houston, return to Cornell, and the music that threads it all together. Intimate, empowering, and wholly original, Enongo is a story of survival, artistic creation, and a woman who artist who consistently thinks outside boxes and dances across lines.
