Enongo 08/26 Blu-ray (Rental)

Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo — the rapper and producer known as Sammus — navigates music, academia, and identity as a Black woman rapper, Cornell PhD candidate, teacher, and proud nerd. Filmed over seven years, Kevin Schreck's documentary follows her as she tours North America, records a new album, and balances a full-time career with academic life, while her afrofuturism-inspired music takes on mental health, identity, race, and feminism. Vérité footage is blended with hand-drawn animation created by an all-Black-women team — a first in feature filmmaking — bringing to life her Ithaca upbringing, her years teaching in Houston, and her return to Cornell.
