Black Chariot 10/26 Blu-ray (Rental)
$7.99
Format: Blu-ray

Release: November 17, 2026
Description
In his first starring role, Bernie Casey (Brian’s Song) portrays Tuck, an irreverent young man living aimlessly in South Central L.A., where a Black militant group is organizing. Tuck joins the group under the persuasion of their outspoken recruiter, Sylvia (Barbara O., Daughters of the Dust). When one of the group’s members (Robert L. Goodwin, Jr.) betrays them to the police, a death warrant is issued, and Tuck must decide between loyalty to the organization and the inner voice of his newly awakened conscience. Television writer Robert L. Goodwin (1927-1983) conceived Black Chariot as a battering ram to break the color barrier that kept African Americans out of the director’s chair. Lacking studio support and commercial distribution, the renegade filmmaker launched an ambitious crowd-funding campaign and shot the film guerilla-style on the streets of Los Angeles. Told in an ambitious flashback structure and shot on a variety of film and video formats, Black Chariot challenged the stylistic conventions of Hollywood and provided an early example of what a 1970s Black cinematic voice might look like. Lacking commercial distribution, Black Chariot vanished after its initial run in Los Angeles, and remained clouded in mystery until it was restored by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in cooperation with the National Film Preservation Foundation. Special Features: -Black Chariot: Hiding in Plain Sight, Featuring Interviews with Actor Robert L. Goodwin Jr. and Film Historian Rhea L. Combs -The Upper Chamber (1963, 52 Min.) Television Drama Written and Produced by Robert L. Goodwin -The Death of Simon Jackson (1969, 28 Min.) Episode of the TV Series Insight, Written by Robert L. Goodwin. Release: April 28, 2026
Description
*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* “Boxcar” Bertha Thompson (Barbara Hershey, The Last Temptation of Christ), a transient young woman living in the American south in the 1930s, rides the rails bouncing from job to job and town to town, often leaving dishonest men in her wake. She eventually comes across “Big” Bill Shelly (David Carradine, Death Race 2000), a hard working laborer turned union organizer. They quickly develop a romantic relationship and, along with two friends—Rake Brown (Barry Primus, New York, New York) and Von Morton (Bernie Casey, Hit Man)—begin an old fashioned crime spree, robbing banks and trains, and becoming fast enemies of both the railway company and local law enforcement. The sophomore narrative feature for Martin Scorsese, who also co-edited the film, BOXCAR BERTHA bears not only many of the hallmarks of his filmography to come but those of producers Roger and Julie Corman as well. Adapted from the book Sister of the Road: The Autobiography of Boxcar Bertha, Scorsese’s film combines elements of true crime grit with the style, and excesses, expected in drive-in exploitation pictures of the 1970s. Long overlooked in the filmography of one of American, and world, cinema’s greatest filmmakers, Cinématographe is proud to bring Martin Scorsese’s BOXCAR BERTHA to 4K UHD for the first time in the world, from a new restoration supervised by Scorsese himself. Bonus Features: 1. 2-Disc Set: 4K Ultra HD + Region A Blu-ray 2. 4K UHD presented in Dolby Vision High-Dynamic-Range 3. Newly scanned & restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative 4. New audio commentary by film critic Adrian Martin 5. "A New Talent" - a new video interview with Ian Christie, editor of Scorsese on Scorsese 6. "Any Way You Can" - a new video interview with actor Barry Primus 7. "What Price a Crucifix Tree: Female Protagonists and the Suffering Servants of Scorsese" - a new video essay by film historian Daniel Kremer 8. "Trailers from Hell" - Julie Corman and Chris Wilkinson on Boxcar Bertha 9. Turner Classic Movies introduction to the film by Ben Mankiewicz, featuring interview footage with producer Roger Corman 10. Gallery of rarely seen storyboards for the film, drawn by Martin Scorsese 11. English SDH subtitles

Description
Tyrone Tackett's brother wasn't the kind of man to throw his life away. Somebody killed him, plain and simple. And by the time Tyrone crisscrosses L.A. and pieces together the crime, lots of folks are going to pay. With equal amounts of tough and sexy, Bernie Casey portrays Tyrone and Pam Grier plays a sultry skin-flick star in this first Americanized remake of the iconic Michael Caine action film Get Carter. From Watts to the West Side, from porno parlors to a high-rise, from motel dives to a crime kingpin's sprawling pleasure dome, from corner hangouts to a wildlife preserve, Tyrone covers a lot of real estate, busts a lot of heads. And throughout, star Casey keeps enough cool for a half a dozen movie heroes (Roger Greenspun, The New York Times).
