Anora (Criterion) 4K UHD 02/25 Blu-ray (Rental)

Disc 1 (the 4K UHD disc) contains the film presented in HDR, plus two audio commentaries: one with director Sean Baker, producer Alex Coco, producer Samantha Quan, and cinematographer Drew Daniels, and one with Baker and actors Yura Borisov, Mark Eydelshteyn, Karren Karagulian, Mikey Madison, and Vache Tovmasyan. Sean Baker, long known for films about Americans hustling at the edges of the economy, tells a twisted Cinderella story that plays as a fast-moving neorealist screwball comedy with a genuinely aching heart. Mikey Madison stars as Anora, a quick-witted, foulmouthed Brooklyn stripper and sex worker who impulsively marries Ivan, the reckless son of a Russian oligarch (Mark Eydelshteyn). Their whirlwind romance turns into a fractured fairy tale — with Karren Karagulian, Yura Borisov, and Vache Tovmasyan among the ensemble — that lays bare the harsh realities of class. The film won the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
