An achingly romantic neon dream, Alan Rudolph’s comic and cutting exploration of the mysteries of human desire established him as one of the most boldly idiosyncratic independent auteurs of the 1980s. At the smoky dive Eve’s Lounge, a collection of strangers—including an insecure radio sexpert (Geneviève Bujold), a commitment-phobic former sex worker (Lesley Ann Warren), and a globe-trotting mystery man (Keith Carradine)—become entangled in a web of passion, jealousy, and self-discovery. Grooving to the rhythms of Teddy Pendergrass’s sexy slow jams, Choose Me exists on its own offbeat wavelength—knotty, surprising, and deeply tender in its vision of lost souls wounded by love yet still reaching out for human connection. Description
Product Description A sailor on leave falls in love with a weary Seattle hooker won for a night in a pool game. Directed by Mark Rydell. Amazon.com James Caan was at a peak of early career anticipation when he impressed everyone as an up-and-coming Paul Newman in Mark Rydells 1973 Cinderella Liberty. Indeed, Caans low-key, self-effacing performance was equally warm and self-involved, in a way that only '70s anti-heroes could be, both a little detached while making one care. In Cinderella Liberty he plays John Baggs Jr., a US Navy sailor who takes a brief leave in Seattle and "wins" Maggie (Marsha Mason), a prostitute, in a pool game, then turns down easy sex when he discovers she has an 11-year-old son (Kirk Calloway) at home and a baby on the way. Instead, John ends up marrying her, but has to fight to keep her when tragedy intervenes. The script is well-written by Darryl Ponicsan, who adapted his novel of the same title, and Caans co-stars--Mason, Calloway, Eli Wallach, Burt Young--are quite strong. Rydells direction of the cast is a little more assured than his sense of atmosphere, but his vision of the seamy side of Seattle in the early 1970s still looks, in cinematic terms, deservedly like a popular touchstone. Special features include a running commentary by Rydell. --Tom Keogh

Product Description **GORGEOUS HD RESTORATION RELEASED FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER ON BLU RAY AND DVD IN NORTH AMERICA** **STARRING ROMY SCHNEIDER (SISSI TRILOGY)** Newly restored from the original film elements, this 2-disc double feature of classic romantic dramas, Cesar Et Rosalie and Les Choses De La Vie, directed by Palme d'Or-nominated auteur Claude Sautet, and starring legendary actress Romy Schneider Sissi trilogy) are now being released for the first time on Blu Ray. Les Choses De La Vie: Pierre (Michel Piccoli) is involved in a terrible car accident. Fatally injured, he sees his life pass before his eyes. Only now does he realize the importance of all the details of existence, the pleasures and sorrows that together makeup life's happiness. Romy Schneider is his demanding mistress, and Lea Massari his ex-wife in this 1969 Claude Sautet feature. Cesar Et Rosalie: Cesar and Rosalie (Romy Schneider) live a comfortable life together until David, Rosalie's old flame, returns and ignites Cesar's jealousy and Rosalie's indecision. Unexpectedly, it is Rosalie who is in the way of Cesar and David's new friendship. Bonus features include Cesar Et Rosalie documentary Symphonie Metallique, Les Choses De La Vie featurette Serenade for Three, and booklet with new essay by author David N. Meyer. Review Winner - Best Foreign Actor - David di Donatello Awards Nominated - Palme d'Or - Cannes Film Festival Winner - Prix Louis Delluc --- ...it presents not one but two unusually good performances: by Montand, as a scrap-metal dealer with international connections, and by Romy Schneider as the woman who loves him sometimes and lives with him sometimes, not always at the same sometimes. [W]e ve had a good time and enjoyed... the way Romy Schneider can make a half-shy smile into the suggestion of unimaginable carnal possibilities. - Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun Times Featuring another expressive, vibrant score from Philippe Sarde, opening the film with a beat promising the tone of a thriller, as well as Jean Boffety's (The Things of Life; Je t'aime je t'aime) articulate framing (featuring plenty of handsome close-ups, particularly of Schneider in her custom made Yves Saint Laurent wardrobe), Cesar and Rosalie stays adamantly, wonderfully true to its complexities. - Nicholas Bell, Ion Cinema Romy Schneider... has never been more calmly beautiful. --Roger Greenspun, The New York Times Sautet and his frequent writing partner, Jean-Loup Dabadie, were masters of the intricately triangulated menage-a-trois, as in the delightful Cesar and Rosalie (1972), where bohemian cartoonist Sami Frey and wealthy businessman Yves Montand become unlikely BFFs while competing for the see-sawing affections of their mutual mistress (Schneider). - Scott Foundas, Variety ...a beautifully understated performance from Piccoli which manages to extract a whole lifetime of meaning from a simple gesture like lighting a cigarette, and to illuminate the film's meticulously detailed naturalistic surface. - Time Out ...a remarkable portrait of the compromises of marriage and the fickle stirrings of the human heart, structured as an intricate narrative jigsaw: Gone Girl avant la lettre. - Scott Foundas, Variety Should be considered a high priority for cinephiles. --Mike D'Angelo, The Village Voice

A poignant portrait of Deaf African Americans and the complexities of love at both ends of the twentieth century, Zeinabu irene Davis’s film is a groundbreaking story of inclusion and visibility. In dual performances, Michelle A. Banks and John Earl Jelks play an educated dressmaker and an illiterate migrant in 1910s Chicago, and a resilient graphic artist and an endearing librarian living in the same city eight decades later. Employing archival photography, an original score blending ragtime and African percussion, and lyrical editing, Davis deftly intertwines the two couple’s stories, in ways both tender and tragic. From the imagination of Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro (Pan s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water) comes Crimson Peak, a lavish, stunningly realised journey into the dark heart of Gothic romance... Beginning in Buffalo, New York, during the 1880s, Crimson Peak stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland, Stoker) as Edith Cushing, an aspiring writer who is haunted by the death of her mother. Edith s falls in love with seductive stranger Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston, Avengers Assemble), who whisks her off to Allerdale Hall, his baronial, yet dilapidated English mansion built upon a mountain of blood-red clay. Daisy Miller (Special Edition) 09/24 Blu-ray (Rental)

Description
From cinema giant Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon) and the classic novella by Henry James (The Turn of the Screw), Daisy Miller stars the sensational Cybill Shepherd (Taxi Driver) as the free-spirited young American living abroad in Europe with her daffy mother and bratty kid brother. A woman who does as she pleases yet who seldom pleases anybody but herself, Daisy is very liberated and very much ahead of her time as her behavior scandalizes the Victorian high society of 1878. With sumptuous cinematography, Oscar-nominated costumes and a streak of delightfully acerbic humor, Bogdanovich’s adaptation is “one of the few great films based on a great book” (Richard Brody). Co-starring Bogdanovich favorites Barry Brown (The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid), Mildred Natwick (Barefoot in the Park), Eileen Brennan (The Sting) and Cloris Leachman (Young Frankenstein). Special Features: • Brand New HD Master – From a 4K Scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative • Remembering Daisy Miller: NEW Interview with Star Cybill Shepherd (10:14) • NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian and Critic Peter Tonguette • Audio Commentary by Director Peter Bogdanovich • Introduction by Director Peter Bogdanovich (12:45) • Theatrical Trailer • Optional English Subtitles

At the dawn of the 20th century, a multi-generational family in the Gullah community on the Sea Islands off of South Carolina – former West African slaves who adopted many of their ancestors' Yoruba traditions – struggle to maintain their cultural heritage and folklore while contemplating a migration to the mainland, even further from their roots. Cohen Media Group is proud to present the 25th anniversary restoration of director Julie Dash's landmark film “Daughters of the Dust.” The first wide release by a black female filmmaker, “Daughters of the Dust” was met with wild critical acclaim and rapturous audience response when it initially opened in 1991. Casting a long legacy, “Daughters of the Dust” still resonates today, most recently as a major in influence on Beyoncé's video album “Lemonade.” Restored (in conjunction with UCLA) for the first time with proper color grading overseen by cinematographer AJ Jafa, audiences will finally see the film exactly as Julie Dash intended.

But Church doesn't have a clue when he's hired to help a beautiful amnesia victim (Thompson) tormented by blood-curdling nightmares. Donna Deitch's swooning and sensual first narrative feature, 'Desert Hearts', was groundbreaking upon its 1985 release: a love story about two women, made entirely independently, on a self-financed shoestring budget, by a woman. In the 1959-set film, an adaptation of a beloved novel by Jane Rule, straitlaced East Coast professor Vivian Bell (Helen Shaver) arrives in Reno to file for divorce but winds up catching the eye of someone new, the younger free spirit Cay (Patricia Charbonneau), touching off a slow seduction that unfolds against a breathtaking desert landscape. With undeniable chemistry between its two leads, an evocative jukebox soundtrack, and vivid cinematography by Robert Elswit, Desert Hearts beautifully exudes a sense of tender yearning and emotional candor. *This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. A fledgling film crew, led by the lovable, yet blind, director Larry Benjamin, is hard at work making - or at least trying to make - Benjamin’s latest and most ridiculous movie. But problems with a difficult cast, an inexperienced and distracted crew, special effects that don’t quite work, and more are soon upended when members of the production team begin to be murdered in increasingly strange and convoluted ways. As the rickety production grinds to a halt, and tensions and distrust flare, the mystery assailant continues to strike. Will Larry and his ragtag team of creative misfits be able to band together and unmask the monstrous force hellbent on killing off the movie's cast and crew before everyone left is reduced to piles of bloody pulp? Acclaimed filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman’s (The Toxic Avenger) twisted take on a meta-movie, TERROR FIRMER is a splatter-fueled shock-fest-cum-murder-mystery which pushes the concept of bad taste to its wildest and most creative extremes, as only Troma can do.
