Description
Black Zombie digs beneath the blood-soaked spectacle of modern horror to uncover the zombie’s buried and unsettling origins. Long before it became associated with flesh-eating ghouls, the zombie was a living metaphor for slavery: not a monster, but the ultimate victim of colonial power. A symbol of stolen agency was recast as an object of fear, while Black spiritual traditions were distorted, sensationalized, and erased. Director Maya Annik Bedward traces the evolution of the zombie from colonial Haiti to contemporary Hollywood, reconsidering iconic films like White Zombie, Night of the Living Dead, and The Serpent and the Rainbow alongside archival footage, vérité scenes, and interviews with cultural historians, artists, and genre legends including Yves-Grégory Francois, Mambo Labelle Déesse, Slash, Tom Savini, and Zandashé Brown. Part cultural reckoning, part horror remix, Black Zombie exposes how a figure born from enslavement, spiritual belief, and resistance was transformed into one of pop culture’s most profitable monsters. Special Features: -Audio Commentary by Writer/Director Maya Annik Bedward -Theatrical Trailer

Product Description **GORGEOUS HD RESTORATION RELEASED FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER ON BLU RAY AND DVD IN NORTH AMERICA** **STARRING ROMY SCHNEIDER (SISSI TRILOGY)** Newly restored from the original film elements, this 2-disc double feature of classic romantic dramas, Cesar Et Rosalie and Les Choses De La Vie, directed by Palme d'Or-nominated auteur Claude Sautet, and starring legendary actress Romy Schneider Sissi trilogy) are now being released for the first time on Blu Ray. Les Choses De La Vie: Pierre (Michel Piccoli) is involved in a terrible car accident. Fatally injured, he sees his life pass before his eyes. Only now does he realize the importance of all the details of existence, the pleasures and sorrows that together makeup life's happiness. Romy Schneider is his demanding mistress, and Lea Massari his ex-wife in this 1969 Claude Sautet feature. Cesar Et Rosalie: Cesar and Rosalie (Romy Schneider) live a comfortable life together until David, Rosalie's old flame, returns and ignites Cesar's jealousy and Rosalie's indecision. Unexpectedly, it is Rosalie who is in the way of Cesar and David's new friendship. Discovering that exiled Algerian OAS terrorist Sadiel (Gian Maria Volontè, For a Few Dollars More) is about to return to France, both the CIA and the French Secret Service go on red alert. They blackmail a journalist, François Darien (Jean-Louis Trintignant, The Conformist), into helping them to entice Sadiel to Paris, in order to assassinate him. Meanwhile Michael Howard (Roy Scheider, The Seven-Ups) discovers the double-cross, only to be warned off by the CIA, who are quite happy to have the French dig their own political grave. A taut, gripping drama unfolds, as two secret service agencies fight for superiority on the streets of Paris. Yves Boisset (Dog Day) directed this political thriller based largely on the true story of the Mehdi Ben Barka affair, with music by the great Ennio Morricone (The Sicilian Clan) and a loaded international cast including Michel Piccoli (Max and the Junkmen), Jean Seberg (Breathless), Michel Bouquet (The Unfaithful Wife), Bruno Cremer (Sorcerer), Daniel Ivernel (Ulysses), Philippe Noiret (Topaz), François Périer (Le Samouraï) and Nigel Davenport (Phase IV). Special Features: • 4K Restoration from the Original Camera Negative • Includes both the Original French and English Dub Cuts

Description
A sprawling tale of greed, betrayal, and revenge plays out amid the bucolic splendor of the French countryside in Claude Berri’s masterly two-film adaptation of a literary work by the legendary Marcel Pagnol. Spanning three generations in the lives of two families, Jean de Florette and Manon of the Spring vividly recreate the provincial world of an early-twentieth-century village, where an outsider’s arrival sets in motion a devastating chain of events. With gorgeous cinematography, keen insights into human nature, and superb performances from icons of French cinema (Gérard Depardieu, Yves Montand, Daniel Auteuil, and Emmanuelle Béart), these richly absorbing moral tales—at the time of their production, the most expensive French films ever made—are triumphs of epic storytelling in the classical tradition. 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K digital restorations, supervised by director of photography Bruno Nuytten, with 5.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks Two 4K UHD discs of the films and two Blu-rays with the films and special features Claude Berri: The Card Dealer (2018), a documentary on director Claude Berri’s life and career The Force of Destiny (2017), a documentary about the making of the films Trailers New English subtitle translations PLUS: An essay by film scholar Sue Harris JEAN DE FLORETTE The sun-dappled beauty of the Provence countryside belies dark motivations, in the first installment of Claude Berri’s monumental pastoral tragedy. When the naively idealistic tax collector Jean Cadoret (Gérard Depardieu) unexpectedly inherits a family farm, he leaves the city for a new life in the agrarian community where his mother, Florette, grew up—though she moved away decades ago. His neighbors, however, the scheming Ugolin (Daniel Auteuil) and his proud uncle César Soubeyran (Yves Montand), have plotted to divert the flow of water away from Jean’s land. Brought to extraordinary life by acting legends Depardieu, Auteuil, and Montand, Jean de Florette draws viewers into a fully realized vision of 1920s rural France in which the culture clash between modern ideas and the rustic older codes of the country takes a heartbreaking turn. MANON OF THE SPRING Shot simultaneously with Jean de Florette, this second chapter in the epic story of the intersecting fates of the Cadoret and Soubeyran families unfolds ten years after the events of the first film, as Jean Cadoret’s daughter, Manon (Emmanuelle Béart, in a César-winning performance), now a teenage shepherdess, learns of the circumstances that drove her family to ruin—and seeks revenge on those responsible. A stirring portrait of a young woman’s awakening to her own agency, Manon of the Spring brings to a close Claude Berri’s sweeping Marcel Pagnol adaptation with a devastating power that approaches Greek tragedy.

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* "A far-reaching meditation on the relationship between individual and society" (Film Comment), LE JOLI MAI is a portrait of Paris and Parisians shot during May 1962. It is a film with several thousand actors, including a poet, a student, an owl, a housewife, a stockbroker, a competitive dancer, two lovers, General de Gaulle, and several cats. Filmed just after the March ceasefire between France and Algeria, LE JOLI MAI documents Paris during a turning point in French history: the first time since 1939 that France was not involved in any war. Part I, "A Prayer from the Eiffel Tower," documents personal attitudes and feelings around Paris. A salesman feels free only when he is driving his car, and then only if there is not too much traffic. A working-class mother of eight has just gotten the larger apartment that she had been wanting for years. The space capsule of American astronaut John Glenn is examined by a group of admiring children. Two investors talk about their careers and adventures. A couple in love since their teens discuss the possibility of eternal happiness. At a middle class wedding banquet, the guests are raucous while the bride is quiet, dignified and reserved. Part II, "The Return of Fantomas," is an investigation of the political and social life of the city. Marker and Lhomme alternate between public events and private discussions: the former focusing on the Algerian situation, such as a funeral for people killed in Paris street demonstrations after the Algerian settlement. Meanwhile, the latter includes a conversation with two girls about the state of France; a meeting with a pair of engineers who describe the potential of the current technological revolution; an African student who discusses his own response to the French and the Parisians' reaction to his skin color; a worker-priest forced to choose between the Church and his fellow workers; and an Algerian worker describing conflict he has experienced with native Frenchmen. The film ends with sweeping views of Paris, the facades of its prisons, and the faces of its people as they struggle to make sense of their moment in history. Bonus Features: 1. Playtime in Paris, directed by Catherine Varlin (1962, 27 mins) 2. Interview with Pierre Lhomme (2015, 20 mins) 3. 16-page booklet Top Similar From the Brand Questions Reviews Le Joli Mai (The Lovely Month of May) [Blu-ray] Le Joli Mai The Lovely Month of May

Description
Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of a classic, for the first time on Blu-ray. The talents of acclaimed director Vincente Minnelli (Meet Me in St. Louis, An American In Paris) and legend Barbra Streisand combine to bring this Broadway production to the screen in grand fashion. Streisand is Daisy Gamble, a kooky chain-smoker desperate to kick the habit. She finds the perfect cure in the form of Dr. Marc Chabot (Yves Montand), a psychiatrist who uses hypnosis. However, when Daisy goes into a trance, she can regress into past lives and different personalities including "Melinda," a 19th-century English coquette. And before you can say amour, Dr. Marc has fallen in love with the enthralling, elusive Melinda... while Daisy, in turn, finds herself falling head-over-heels for the handsome hypnotist! Bob Newhart and Jack Nicholson add to the tune-filled fun in this romantic romp.

Product Description Costa-Gavras (Z) puts the United States' involvement in South American politics under the microscope in this arresting thriller. An urban guerilla group, outraged at the counterinsurgency and torture training clandestinely organized by the CIA in their country (unnamed in the film), abducts a U.S. official (The Wages of Fear's Yves Montand) to bargain for the release of political prisoners; soon the kidnapping becomes a media sensation, leading to violence. Co-written by Franco Solinas (The Battle of Algiers), the electrifying State of Siege piercingly critiques the American government for helping institute foreign dictatorships while also asking difficult questions about the efficacy of radical violent acts to oppose such regimes.
