Set in the 1970s Berlin underground, this portrait of drug addiction remains one of the most harrowing ever filmed. Based on the true story of Christiane Felscherinow, whose shocking memoir made her the face of a generation of troubled German youth, it follows the alienated thirteen-year-old Christiane (Natja Brunckhorst) as she progresses from pills to heroin amid West Berlin's club scene, the highs of adolescent abandon collapsing into an agonizing existence on the city's desolate margins. Shot on authentically grimy locations with an electrifying David Bowie soundtrack, it is a haunting vision of a young life in free fall.

Disc 2 of the Wim Wenders: The Road Trilogy set contains Wrong Move (1975). Wilhelm Meister, a would-be writer going nowhere in his northern German hometown, is bought a train ticket to Bonn by his mother and sent out to see something of life. Loosely following Goethe's Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship, his journey gathers a small company of fellow travelers - an aging street singer and his silent young companion Mignon, a beautiful actress, a would-be poet - but the encounters only deepen his disillusionment with himself and with Germany.
