Description
Young Robert Wagner undergoes a dangerous rite of passage in this undersea adventure that depicts the steadfast virtues of familial loyalty. Set in the Gulf of Mexico off the West Coast of Florida, Beneath the 12-Mile Reef chronicles the life of sponge fisherman Mike Petrakis (Gilbert Roland) and his cocksure son Tony (Wagner). Having little luck in their pursuit of sponges, Mike schemes to make an early morning voyage into the Key West waters controlled by the territorial Conch fishermen led by Thomas Rhys (Richard Boone). When the locals discover the "trespassing" Greeks, tensions arise between the families which become even more strained when Tony falls in love with Rhys' beautiful daughter Gwyneth (Terry Moore). Filmed on location, Beneath the 12-Mile Reef boasts vivid underwater scenes and crisp, breathtaking cinematography (which earned Edward Cronjager an Oscar nomination), as well as a haunting score by the renowned composer Bernard Herrmann. An uncredited Rock Hudson provides a brief narrative introduction in the opening sequences.

Demi Moore (Ghost) and Woody Harrelson (The People vs. Larry Flynt) are Diana and David Murphy, a financially strapped couple who are betting on a quick trip to Las Vegas to deal them a lucky hand. But the odds are suddenly even more attractive when billionaire John Gage (Robert Redford, Three Days of the Condor) ups the ante—complete financial freedom. The price? One night of passion with Diana. The payoff? A cool $1 million. But what seems to be a quick and simple solution to their money problems creates more friction than the couple bargained for as the high stakes of trust, love and attraction come into play as part of Gage’s compelling proposal. From Adrian Lyne, the acclaimed director of Flashdance, 9½ Weeks, Fatal Attraction, Jacob’s Ladder and Unfaithful, comes a film that examines a riveting morality game—one in which each player has a strategy, as well as a set of rules to play by. Remastered, uncut and beautifully restored, now you can see The Little Rascals like never before! With restorations so glorious, it will be like watching these iconic shorts for the first time! With the introduction of George "Spanky" McFarland to the troupe in 1932, the "Our Gang" comedies soon embarked on one of the series' most prolific periods of mirth making. Two years later, Hal Roach was inspired to team Spanky with a loyal sidekick: precocious child actor Scotty Beckett, whose delightful comic support of "Spank" premiered in one of Our Gang's funniest and most beloved two-reelers, Hi'-Neighbor! (1934).Spanky and Scotty often functioned as a Greek chorus to the "bigger" kids in classic outings like The First Roundup, Honky-Donkey and For Pete’s Sake (all 1934). They also displayed their broad comic range and chemistry by imitating the antics of Roach's biggest stars, Laurel & Hardy, as in Mike Fright (1934) where Scotty's guileless "Maybe we ain't us" earns him a withering Hardy-like stare from his pal.The Little Rascals - The ClassicFlix Restorations, Volume 4 contains the next 12 Our Gang sound shorts produced by Roach in the "talkie era": The Kid from Borneo (1932) to Shrimps for a Day (1934)—with each short newly scanned and restored from original Hal Roach 35mm film elements.A must-have for any true Our Gang fan, Volume 4 features the talents of George "Spanky" McFarland, Dickie Moore, Wally Albright, Bobby "Wheezer" Hutchins, Dorothy DeBorba, Matthew "Stymie" Beard, Tommy Bond, Billie "Buckwheat" Thomas, and, of course, Scotty Beckett. Product Description An account of the last eighteen years in the life of the notorious bank and train robber, Jesse James, and his brother and partner-in-crime, Frank. Amazon.com The best thing about this take on the celebrated Missouri outlaw is Nicholas Ray's dynamic use of CinemaScope, a format that left most mid-'50s directors flatfooted. Ray composes his action in slashing diagonals, over multi-leveled ground, with sectors of the wide screen defined by frames-within-the-frame and different qualities of light and color. Which is to say, he continues the radical experimentation of his 1955 James Dean classic Rebel Without a Cause while attempting to develop a fresh, contemporary perspective on another violent young protagonist who's an outsider in his own society. Nunnally Johnson's script for 20th Century-Fox's 1939 Jesse James is credited as source material, but Ray opted for a tortuous, balladlike flashback structure--beginning with the James-Younger gang's ruinous raid on Northfield, Minnesota, 400 miles from their Missouri stomping ground--that aims to deconstruct the outlaw's populist legend. "Jesse James" is an elusive subject; the Minnesota posse never sets eyes on him in the jagged first reel of the movie. How much of an Old West "Robin Hood" was he? And how murderously vengeful was his criminal career as he struck back against the railroads and their cold-blooded police force, the Pinkerton (here, "Remington") agency, and Union-sympathizer neighbors who hated this former member of the wartime guerrilla band, Quantrill's Raiders? However radical the director's intentions, his movie runs afoul of studio recutting and an underwhelming cast of Fox contract players. Jeffrey Hunter (recently loaned out to play Ethan Edwards' companion in The Searchers) comes off best as Jesse's thoughtful brother Frank (a pattern that holds true for Henry Fonda in Jesse James and Stacy Keach in The Long Riders). But Ray was stymied by Robert Wagner as Jesse--in the phrase of Ray biographer Bernard Eisenschitz, a player "expressive of nothing but Californian physical culture." (James Dean being dead, Ray's first choice for Jesse was ... Elvis Presley!) --Richard T. Jameson

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Jim (Sean Penn, Carlito’s Way) and Ned (Robert De Niro, The Untouchables), two ambling convicts imprisoned in Upstate New York during the Great Depression, are forced to escape prison when fellow inmate Bobby (James Russo, Dangerous Game) pulls a gun during his electric chair execution, turning them into unwitting accomplices. With a taste of freedom, Jim and Ned end up in a small town near the Canadian border, mistaken for priests in the local monastery. With the law hindering an easy passage into Canada, the two hunker down in their newfound home, befriending the people of the town and finding faith in the process. A remake of the 1955 Michael Curtiz film of the same name, WE’RE NO ANGELS is a deft marriage of comedy and drama from celebrated Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan (Mona Lisa, The Crying Game), based on a script from noted playwright David Mamet (The Untouchables, House of Games). Featuring a staggering ensemble cast including Oscar nominees Demi Moore (A Few Good Men) and John C. Reilly (Chicago) with Wallace Shawn (My Dinner with Andre) and Bruno Kirby (The Godfather Part II), WE’RE NO ANGELS is an overlooked entry in Neil Jordan’s career. Cinématographe is proud to bring Jordan’s epic crime comedy to blu-ray for the first time in the world with a new 4K restoration approved by the filmmaker. Bonus Features: 1. Region A Blu-ray 2.
