Description

In a small English village, experimental composer Anthony Fielding (John Hurt) and his wife Rachel (Susannah York) have their quiet routine upended by the arrival of an enigmatic stranger, Charles Crossley (Alan Bates), who claims to possess knowledge of Aboriginal magic and a 'terror shout' that can kill anyone who hears it - a claim that makes him an object of both terror and desire. Jerzy Skolimowski's adaptation of a short story by Robert Graves builds from an ambient murmur of psychic dread to an existential shriek.
