WORLDWIDE BLU-RAY PREMIERE OF THE EXTREME ITALIAN VERSION & U.S. CUT + BONUS SOUNDTRACK CD! In one of the earliest entries in the subgenre, ItaloFilth veteran Bruno Mattei (THE OTHER HELL, WOMEN'S PRISON MASSACRE) set the Caligsploitation standard for informative history, raid-the-peplum-props ingenuity and jaw-dropping depictions of ancient Roman depravity: When the deranged emperor (Vladimir Brajovic of THE STORY OF O) falls for an insatiable gladiatrix (Betty Roland of Mattei's CALIGULA REINCARNATED AS NERO), their reign will launch a mind-bending bacchanal of torture, sodomy, incest, castration, borrowed footage and aroused livestock. Françoise Blanchard (THE LIVING DEAD GIRL), Florence Guérin (Cozzi's THE BLACK CAT) and the infamous Sal Boris (THE BEAST IN HEAT) co-star in this saga of saturnalian obscenity, presented in both the Explicit Italian Version and Unrated U.S. Release scanned in 2K from their original negatives. François Truffaut described The Golden Coach as “the noblest and most refined film ever made”. Set to the music of Antonio Vivaldi and with the vivacious Anna Magnani (Rome, Open City), Jean Renoir’s ravishing, sumptuous tribute to theatre involves a viceroy who receives an exquisite golden coach and gives it to the tempestuous star of a touring commedia dell’arte company. Set in Peru in the eighteenth century, The Golden Coach follows Camilla (Magnani), the star of a theater company, who hesitates to choose between the advances of three men. The Viceroy gives her his magnificent golden coach. A young Spanish officer suggests the two of them settle down together. Ramon, a torero, offers her a share of his glory. Jean Renoir s ruthless love triangle tale, his second sound film, is a true precursor to his brilliantly bitter The Rules of the Game, displaying all of the filmmaker s visual genius and fully imbued with his profound sense of humanity. A hangdog Michel Simon (Boudu Saved from Drowning) cuts a tragic figure as an unhappily married cashier and amateur painter who becomes so smitten with a prostitute that he refuses to see the obvious: that she and her pimp boyfriend are taking advantage of him. Renoir s elegant compositions and camera movements carry this twisting and turning narrative a stinging commentary on class and sexual divides to an unforgettably ironic conclusion.

Nana (1926) is Jean Renoir’s (The Rules of the Game) second feature, and one of his most ambitious productions, presented here in a new 4K restoration. It is an elaborately mounted adaptation of Émile Zola’s novel that tracks the doomed romances of its title character—an actress who would go on to be the most notorious courtesan of her era. When her father dies, a young girl is sent to live with her uncle. Mistreated, she runs away to lead a vagabond’s life in the forest. When she is found, she becomes Nana, a fashionable actress of loose morals, becoming first the mistress of a count, and then of the Emperor’s chamberlain. Nana’s love affairs are set against gorgeously mounted sets designed by Claude Autant-Lara. Special Features: -Audio commentary by film critic Nick Pinkerton -Before-and-After Restoration Comparison -Music composed and performed by Antonio Coppola

This entrancing first color feature from Jean Renoir (The Rules of the Game), shot entirely on location in India; is a visual tour de force. Based on the novel by Rumer Godden, the film eloquently contrasts the growing pains of three young women with the immutability of the holy Bengal River, around which their daily lives unfold. Enriched by Renoir's subtle understanding of and appreciation for India and it's people, The River gracefully explores the fragile connections between transitory emotions and steadfast creation.

Considered one of the greatest films ever made, Jean Renoir’s The Rules of the Game is a scathing critique of corrupt French society cloaked in a comedy of manners in which a weekend at a marquis’s country château lays bare some ugly truths about a group of haut bourgeois acquaintances. The film has had a tumultuous history: it was subjected to cuts after the violent response of the audience at its 1939 premiere, and the original negative was destroyed during World War II; it wasn’t reconstructed until 1959. That version, which has stunned viewers for decades, is presented here. 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack One 4K UHD disc of the film and one Blu-ray of the film with special features Introduction to the film by director Jean Renoir Audio commentary written by film scholar Alexander Sesonske and read by filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich Comparison of the film’s two endings Selected-scene analysis by Renoir historian Chris Faulkner Excerpts from a 1966 French television program by filmmaker Jacques Rivette Part one of Jean Renoir, a two-part 1993 documentary by film critic David Thompson Video essay about the film’s production, release, and 1959 reconstruction Interview with film critic Olivier Curchod Interview from a 1965 episode of the French television series Les écrans de la ville with Jean Gaborit and Jacques Durand Interviews with set designer Max Douy; Renoir’s son, Alain; and actor Mila Parély PLUS: An essay by Sesonske; writings by Jean Renoir, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Bertrand Tavernier, and François Truffaut; and tributes to the film by J. Description
In 1934, Jean Renoir stepped off the soundstage and headed to the South of France, where he captured vivid human drama amid the bucolic splendor and everyday social rituals of the countryside. Based on a true story and set in a community of immigrants living, working, and loving on the margins of French society, Toni follows the eponymous Italian migrant (Charles Blavette), whose tempestuous affairs with two women—the faithful Marie (Jenny Hélia) and the flirtatious Josefa (Celia Montalván)—unleash a wave of tragedy. Making use of nonprofessional actors, on-location shooting, and the resources of the great Marcel Pagnol’s Provence studio, Renoir crafts a marvel of poetic feeling that became a precursor to Italian neorealism and a favorite of the directors of the French New Wave. BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES • New 4K digital restoration, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack • Audio commentary from 2006 featuring critics Kent Jones and Phillip Lopate • Introduction by director Jean Renoir from 1961 • Episode of Cinéastes de notre temps from 1967 on Renoir, directed by Jacques Rivette and featuring a conversation with actor Charles Blavette about the film • New video essay about the making of Toni by film scholar Christopher Faulkner • New English subtitle translation • PLUS: An essay by film scholar Ginette Vincendeau
