Brand New 4K Master! From Billy Wilder, the legendary director of Double Indemnity, Sunset Blvd., Stalag 17, Witness for the Prosecution, Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, Irma La Douce and The Fortune Cookie, comes this classic drama starring screen great Ray Milland (X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes, Reap the Wild Wind). An uncompromising look at the devastating effects of alcoholism, The Lost Weekend was almost never released because of the poor reaction by preview audiences unaccustomed to such stark realism from Hollywood. It has since gone on to be regarded as one of the all-time great dramas in movie history, featuring Milland’s haunting portrayal of a would-be writer’s dissatisfaction with life that leads to a self-destructive three-day binge. Filled with riveting imagery, this masterpiece, co-starring Jane Wyman (All That Heaven Allows), won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (Wilder), Best Actor (Milland) and Best Screenplay (Charles Brackett and Wilder), and was nominated for Best Cinematography (John F. Seitz), Best Editing (Doane Harrison) and Best Score (Miklós Rózsa). Special Features: -Brand New 4K Master -Audio Commentary by Film Historian Joseph McBride -Radio Adaptation -TRAILERS FROM HELL with Mark Pellington -Theatrical Trailer -Dual-Layered BD50 Disc -Optional English Subtitles

James Stewart (It's a Wonderful Life) plays Lawrence "Rip" Smith in this Capraesque tale in which an ambitious pollster finds a small town whose citizens' opinions accurately reflect those of America at large. On discovering this oddity in the darling town of Grandview, Smith plots to exploit this "mathematical miracle." Posing as an insurance salesman along with his two sidekicks, Ike Sloan (Ned Sparks) and Mr. Twiddle (Donald Meek), he romances the local newspaper editor while trying to keep her from discovering his true intentions. The young editor, Mary Peterman (Jane Wyman, Magnificent Obsession), has hopes for improving the town with a new civics center. Mary soon proves to be smarter than "Rip" ever anticipated. When she exposes the truth, the resulting publicity threatens to destroy the town and everything it stood for. Robert Riskin is remembered today as the man who wrote some of Frank Capra's best films, including Mr. Deed Goes to Town and It Happened One Night. Here he made his independent producing debut with this film directed by the great William A. Wellman (The Ox-Bow Incident).

Description

Cole Porter was the most sophisticated name in 20th-century songwriting. To play him on screen, Hollywood chose debonair icon Cary Grant. Grant stars for the first time in color in this fanciful biopic. Alexis Smith plays Linda, whose serendipitous meetings with Cole lead to a meeting at the altar. More than 20 Porter songs grace this tale of triumph and tragedy, with Grant lending his amiable voice to You're the Top, Night and Day and more.
