EUREKA ENTERTAINMENT PROUDLY PRESENTS “THE CAT AND THE CANARY” MAKING ITS HD DEBUT ON SPECIAL EDITION BLU-RAY! Paul Leni (The Man Who Laughs) directs one of the most important and influential films in the early history of American genre cinema, which perfected the 'old dark house' formula and set the stage for the Universal horror cycle of the 1930s. Twenty years after the death of millionaire Cyrus West, his surviving relatives are called together in a decaying mansion on the Hudson River. There, they gather to hear West's lawyer Roger Crosby (Tully Marshall) read his last will and testament and discover that West has left everything to his niece Annabelle (Laura La Plante). That is, at least, on the condition that she is judged to be legally sane. As the family settles in for the evening, tensions rise when they are informed that a murderer nicknamed the Cat has escaped from a nearby asylum and is suspected to be somewhere on the grounds. Crosby soon disappears in mysterious circumstances, which proves to be just the first in a series of horrifying events that will punctuate a long, dark night of terror - during which Annabelle's sanity will be called into question again and again. Based upon the 1922 stage production by John Willard, The Cat and the Canary is a perfect blend of horror and black comedy and stands at the apex of a cycle of films adapted from mystery plays throughout the 1920s. It later inspired James Whale's The Old Dark House and has been remade several times - but never bettered. The Masters of Cinema series is proud to present this cornerstone of horror cinema for the first time ever on Blu-ray from a glorious 4K restoration. Both beloved, surreal Hungarian animated gems CAT CITY and CATCHER: CAT CITY 2, released together in the U.S. on Blu-ray for the first time! This deluxe 2-disc edition features the original Hungarian animated sci-fi classic CAT CITY (1986) paired for the first time with its sequel CATCHER: CAT CITY 2 (2007) making its U.S. Blu-ray debut: CAT CITY (MACSKAFOGÓ), 1986, Hungary, 96 min. Unflappable mouse secret agent Nick Grabovsky (László Sinkó) goes up against the criminal cat gang run by sinister, metal-pawed Mr. Teufel (Miklós Benedek), in director Béla Ternovszky's surreal animated sci-fi treasure. Set in the year 80 AMM ("After Mickey Mouse") on Planet X where cats and rats have banded together to eliminate mice, the film features a show-stopping series of musical numbers including a bizarre chorus of Mexican vampire bats who inhabit an ancient Mayan temple. A cross between 1980s Don Bluth-style animation (THE SECRET OF NIMH) and the British TV series "Danger Mouse", CAT CITY has long been a beloved cult favorite in Eastern Europe. CATCHER: CAT CITY 2 (MACSKAFOGÓ 2 - A SÁTÁN MACSKÁJA) - 2007, Hungary, 90 min. It's 20 years after the epochal battle between cats, rats and mice in the beloved original CAT CITY. Planet X is now peacefully run by rodents, and former secret agent Nick Grabovsky has an organic spinach farm - until an African explorer discovers the last untamed tribe of cats in the jungle, who call up the ancient feline demon Moloch to help reclaim their place atop the food chain. Hungarian director Béla Ternovszky's delightfully quirky sequel brings back familiar characters from the first film (yes, iron-pawed Mr. Teufel returns!) with the same mix of bizarre sight gags, political satire and "Danger Mouse"-style animated fantasy / sci-fi. And the Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla-like battle between Moloch and the giant Robot Dog is something to see. Bonus Materials 3 rare Béla Ternovszky animated shorts. Following the success of his debut feature, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, distributor Titanus tasked writer/director Dario Argento with delivering a follow-up in short order. The resulting film, granted a greatly enhanced budget and heralded in its US marketing campaign as “nine times more suspenseful” than its predecessor, was The Cat O’ Nine Tails. When a break-in occurs at a secretive genetics institute, blind puzzle-maker Franco Arnò (Karl Malden, Patton, One-Eyed Jacks), who overheard an attempt to blackmail one of the institute’s scientists shortly before the robbery, teams up with intrepid reporter Carlo Giordani (James Franciscus, Beneath the Planet of the Apes) to crack the case. But before long the bodies begin to pile up and the two amateur sleuths find their own lives imperiled in their search for the truth. And worse still, Lori (Cinzia De Carolis, Cannibal Apocalypse), Franco’s young niece, may also be in killer’s sights… This second entry in the so-called “Animal Trilogy” found Argento further refining his distinctive style and cementing his reputation as the master of the giallo thriller. Co-starring Catherine Spaak (Il Sorpasso) and Rada Rassimov (Baron Blood), and featuring another nerve-jangling score by the great Ennio Morricone (The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly), The Cat O’ Nine Tails remains one of Argento’s most suspenseful and underrated films. 4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAY LIMITED EDITION CONTENTS New 4K restoration from the original negative by Arrow Films 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) Restored original lossless mono Italian and English soundtracks English subtitles for the Italian soundtrack Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing for the English soundtrack Audio commentary by critics Alan Jones and Kim Newman Nine Lives, an interview with co-writer/director Dario Argento The Writer O’ Many Tales, an interview with co-writer Dardano Sacchetti Child Star, an interview with actress Cinzia De Carolis Giallo in Turin, an interview with production manager Angelo Iacono Script pages for the lost original ending, translated into English for the first time Original Italian, international and US theatrical trailers Illustrated collector’s booklet featuring an original essay on the film by Dario Argento, and writing by Barry Forshaw, Troy Howarth and Howard Hughes Fold-out double-sided poster featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Obviously Creative Six double-sided, postcard-sized lobby card reproduction artcards Limited edition packaging with reversible sleeve featuring originally and newly commissioned artwork by Obviously Creative

The first of the horror films producer Val Lewton (The Body Snatcher, I Walked with a Zombie) made for RKO Pictures redefined the genre by leaving its most frightening terrors to its audience s imagination. Simone Simon (La bête humaine) stars as a Serbian émigré in Manhattan who believes that, because of an ancient curse, any physical intimacy with the man she loves (Kent Smith) will turn her into a feline predator. Lewton, a consummate producer-auteur who oversaw every aspect of his projects, found an ideal director in Jacques Tourneur (Out of the Past), a chiaroscuro stylist adept at keeping viewers off-kilter with startling compositions and psychological innuendo. Together, they eschewed the canned effects of earlier monster movies in favor of shocking with subtle shadows and creative audio cues. One of the studio s most successful movies of the 1940s, Cat People raised the creature feature to new heights of sophistication and mystery. Interview with György Ráduly, Director of the National Film Institute-Film Archive. Commentary track by film historian Samm Deighan 'The Director Answers: Béla Ternovsky' - 2023, 23 min. Dir. Yvonne Kerékgyártó – interview with Béla Ternovszky “Ahead Of Its Time (Megelőzte a maga korát)” – 2020, 25 min. Dir. Péter Szalay. Filled with "wonderful atmosphere [and] fine, moody fantasy" (Leonard Maltin), this continuation of 1942's Cat People follows Oliver Reed (Kent Smith), now remarried, living in idyllic Tarrytown, New York, and the father of six-year-old Amy. When Amy becomes withdrawn and speaks of consorting with a new "friend," Oliver worries that she may be under the influence of the spirit of his first wife. Is it just Amy's imagination that has manifested the enigmatic Irena (Simone Simon), who long believed herself to be descended from a race of Cat People? Directors Gunther V. Fritsch and Robert Wise (making his directorial debut), co-helmed a gothic-laced mix of fantasy and fright so astute it was used in college psychology classes. And producer Val Lewton, given small budgets and lurid, pre-tested film titles by RKO, worked with rising filmmakers to emphasize the fear of the unseen, and turn meager resources into momentous works of psychological terror. Bonus Content: Audio Commentary with Author/Historian Steve Haberman Audio Commentary with Historian Greg Mank, with Audio Interview Excerpts with Actress Simone Simon Lewton's Muse: The Dark Eyes of Simone Simon – A Video Essay by Filmmaker Constantine Nasr (Shadows in the Dark: The Val Lewton Legacy) Audio Interview with Ann Carter, Moderated by Tom Weaver Theatrical Trailers Still Gallery

Formerly a small-time coach from Wichita Kansas, Ted and his friend, assistant Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) cross the pond to take up the management of the team's long, albeit modest history.
