Meet the long and short of L.A.’s vice squad… Keneely (Elliott Gould, The Long Goodbye) is the lanky one… Farrel (Robert Blake, In Cold Blood) is the short one… they may not be the best cops in town, but they sure are the toughest. Stand by for plenty of action in this fast-paced thriller that marked the impressive debut of writer and director Peter Hyams who later went on to make Capricorn One, Outland and Running Scared. Gould and Blake play a pair of Los Angeles cops who find themselves in a bitter conflict with their corrupt superiors as they wage a two-men war against crime czar Carl Rizzo (Allen Garfield, The Organization). And even when they’re demoted after a hair-raising shootout, the two dedicated cops are ready to break every rule in the book to bring their quarry to justice. The stellar cast includes Antonio Fargas (Across 110th Street), Michael Lerner (Barton Fink), Sid Haig (Pit Stop), Cornelia Sharpe (Serpico) and William Sylvester (2001: A Space Odyssey). Special Features: • Audio Commentary by Director Peter Hyams • Audio Commentary with Star Elliott Gould and Film Critic Kim Morgan • Theatrical Trailer

Description

A Turkish poppy field is torched -and a U.S. drug trafficker known as "Mommy" (Shelley Winters) is feeling pretty burned. She phones the local cops she owns and orders a retaliatory strike on an inner-city antidrug headquarters. Mommy's next call should be to 911. Because now she'll have to mess with Cleopatra Jones (Tamara Dobson). Mommy is relentless in her vendetta -- but Cleo responds with catlike karate stealth. (Bong So Hon, technical advisor on Billy Jack, supervised the karate sequences.) Doodlebug, Pickle, Snake and more of Mommy's offbeat stooges add glide to the story's stride. Their antics, Mommy's chortling sleaziness and Cleo's class shape the power and pizzazz of Cleopatra Jones.

Whatever you do... don't call the cops. A burned-out legal aid attorney (Peter Weller, RoboCop) reluctantly teams up with a renegade police detective (Sam Elliott, Tombstone) to find the truth behind the fatal shooting of an undercover cop by a notorious drug dealer. Targeted by a syndicate of corrupt cops and drug lords, the duo blast their way through the underbelly of New York in their unrelenting search for the shocking truth behind the crime. Filmed on the streets of Manhattan, Shakedown features some of the most incredible stunt work and chase sequences ever shot, including a death-defying fight scene atop Coney Island's Cyclone roller coaster. Delivering non-stop thrills from start to finish, Shakedown is one the most entertaining high-speed cop films ever made and among the best from action genre vet James Glickenhaus (The Soldier, The Exterminator).
