*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Following the death of his partner, brash NYPD cop Eddie Ryan (Robert Duvall, The Godfather) swears vengeance, going on a violent quest through the streets of 1970s New York City to find his assailants. His methods prove so hostile, and racist, that he is forced to resign from the police, rendering him a vigilante hellbent on justice. Ryan’s pursuit of take-no-prisoners fury puts him in the crosshairs of drug kingpins and revolutionaries, not to mention the very department that he was once a part of. Inspired by real life NYPD detective Eddie Egan, who was also the inspiration for William Friedkin’s The French Connection (1971) and its non-fiction source, BADGE 373 is a much more raw portrayal of inner city violence and New York at a point of transition going into the mid-1970s. Long living in the shadow of Friedkin’s film, as well as other more popular New York City set cop films of the era (including the same year’s Serpico, by Sidney Lumet), BADGE 373 is a vital time capsule of old New York, anchored by a fiery performance from Robert Duvall and energetic direction from noted New Hollywood producer Howard W. Koch (A New Leaf). Cinématographe is proud to present this long underseen entry in 70s crime cinema in a brand new 4K restoration from its original camera negative. Bonus Features: 1. Region A Blu-ray 2. New 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative with original mono theatrical soundtrack 3. New audio commentary by film historian Steve Mitchell 4. "A Kernel of Truth" - a new video interview with retired NYPD detective Randy Jurgensen, friend of Eddie Egan and technical advisor on the film 5. "Police Film Protection" - a new video conversation between Jason Bailey, author of Fun City Cinema: New York City and the Movies That Made It, and Cinématographe's Justin LaLiberty 6. "Craftsman Kingmaker: Howard W. Koch and the Art of Getting It Done" - a new video essay by Daniel Kremer 7. English SDH subtitles

Description

BADGE 373 is a crime thriller in the tradition of THE FRENCH CONNECTION and SERPICO. Eddie Ryan (Robert Duvall), a tough, no-nonsense and abrasive Irish cop, has to turn in his badge after scuffling with a suspect who then falls to his death from a rooftop. But that doesn't stop him from heading out on a one-man crusade to avenge his partners murder, all the while neglecting his new live-in girlfriend, Maureen (Verna Bloom). Ryans investigation leads him to Puerto Rican drum kingpin, Sweet Willie (Henry Darrow), and the shipment of guns for the Puerto Rican Crime Syndicate. Real life policeman, Eddie Egan plays Duvalls Lieutenant.

The get-up in New York’s get-up-and-go comes from the switchboard operators of Susanswerphone. Need a wakeup call? Your appointments? Encouragement from “Mom”? A racetrack bet? It all comes from that dutiful nerve – or noive – center that keeps enterprises enterprising and, maybe, wedding bells ringing. Judy Holliday reprises her Tony-winning Broadway role of irrepressible switchboard girl Ella in a jubilant adaptation that marked her final movie and the final teaming of movie-musical titans Arthur Freed and Vincente Minnelli. Dean Martin costars as a struggling playwright in for a surprise when he learns “Mom’s” identity. The sparkling Jule Styne/Betty Comden/ Adolph Green score includes Holliday’s heartfelt “The Party’s Over” and the jolly Holliday/Martin duet “Just in Time.” You’ve dialed the right number, musical fans!

Product Description How does Bobby Bowfinger (Steve Martin), Hollywood's least successful director, get Kit Ramsey (Eddie Murphy), Hollywood's biggest star, in his ultra low-budget film? Any way he can. With an ingenious scheme and the help of Kit's eager and nerdy brother Jiff, an ambitious and sexy wannabe (Heather Graham) and an over-the-hill diva (Christine Baranski), Bowfinger sets out to trick Kit Ramsey into the performance of a lifetime. Enjoy the fun with Eddie Murphy and Steve Martin—together for the first time in the hit comedy Bowfinger. Bonus Content: Spotlight on Location Feature Commentary with Director Frank Oz Deleted Scenes Outtakes Theatrical Trailer Amazon.com Filmmakers often remark that it's just so hard to make a bad picture that few would take on the challenge if they weren't so naive. Steve Martin's Bobby Bowfinger is cut from that pattern, one of those sweet, indomitable operators of Hollywood who seem to be descended directly from Ed Wood (of Plan 9 from Outer Space infamy). To resurrect his ramshackle existence, Bowfinger opts to film his accountant's sci-fi spectacular, Chubby Rain, about aliens invading in raindrops. The snag is he needs to attach action megastar Kit Ramsey (Eddie Murphy), an actor so paranoid he counts the K's in scripts to uncover possible Ku Klux Klan influences. When his effort fails, Bowfinger hits on an ingenious scheme to film Ramsey without his knowledge, throwing his actors at the hapless star whenever he appears in public. Only Kit begins to believe he's being hounded by aliens for real, and runs hysterically to his guru (Terence Stamp) at a Scientology-clone group called MindHead, where people walk around in fine suits wearing white pyramids on their heads. Deprived of his star, yet not to be undone, Bowfinger hires a look-alike, Jiff (also Eddie Murphy), to fill in. The tone of the picture is sometimes flat, rather than deadpan, but that's nitpicking. The farce is quick and engrossing, and populated with terrific performances, especially by Eddie Murphy, whose dual role as Kit and Jiff showcases his character-building gift, and by Martin, whose Bowfinger, part con man and part would-be visionary, manages to capture your sympathies. Heather Graham's would-be actress cheerfully sleeps her way to the top like she knows she's supposed to, and Christine Baranski plays her shopworn method actor with myopic self-absorption. --Jim Gay
