Beautiful, confident, and no stranger to smoking a joint or indulging in underage drinking, Melissa — still a few days shy of her sixteenth birthday — has caught the eye of men and boys alike. It falls to Sheriff Dan Burke to investigate this perplexing rash of killings, aided in part by his eager, mystery-loving daughter Marci. Best known as a key contributor to the Hong Kong New Wave as the director of My Heart is That Eternal Rose and the editor of Wong Kar-wai's Days of Being Wild and Ashes of Time, Patrick Tam began his filmmaking career with The Sword: a love letter to the wuxia genre starring Adam Cheng (Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain). Believing that he is in possession of a cursed blade, the legendary swordsman Hua Qian Shu (Tien Feng, King Boxer) has retreated from the martial arts world to live in peaceful seclusion. However, his retirement has done nothing to dampen his reputation; a young warrior, Li Mak-jan (Cheng), wishes to challenge the master in order to test his own sword-fighting skill. But as Li searches for the reclusive Hua Qian Shu so that he might face him in combat, he finds himself entangled with old lovers and new rivals. Soon, it becomes apparent that the old master's sword really might be cursed - and will, perhaps, bring nothing but tragedy to those who seek to wield it. After a period of dormancy, wuxia films resurged in the 1980s as the likes of Duel to the Death, Bastard Swordsman and Tsui Hark's Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain rejected the realist approach adopted by kung fu cinema in the previous decade. Eureka Classics is proud to present Patrick Tam's The Sword - one of the earliest and best pictures to emerge from this wuxia revival - from a brand new 2K restoration. SPECIAL FEATURES: 1080p HD presentation on Blu-ray from a brand new 2K restoration Original Cantonese audio and optional English dub tracks (original mono presentations) Optional English subtitles, newly translated for this release New audio commentary by East Asian film expert Frank Djeng (NY Asian Film Festival) New audio commentary by action cinema experts Mike Leeder and Arne Venema Andrew Heskins on The Sword – A new interview with film critic Andrew Heskins (easternKicks) Forging Ahead – A new interview with martial arts cinema expert Wayne Wong on The Sword and the wuxia genre Original theatrical trailer Limited edition of 2000 copies only

When a phone call from out of the blue brings Leo (Joey Millin) back into contact with his sister, Virginia (Madison West), long estranged from her family due to years of drug abuse, he arrives to find her alone in a bare apartment in the midst of an apparent overdose. After the convulsions and nausea subside, Virginia insists to Leo that she has been clean for 8 months due to the help of a mysterious group. She confides to her cynical brother that her edginess and paranoia actually stem from a sinister ritual conducted by the group that took her in at her lowest and eventually revealed themselves to be a cult. This curse bound her emotions and physical sensations to a man she has never met before. With his marriage on the rocks, Leo has his own demons to face. Nonetheless, he is reluctantly persuaded by Virginia to embark on a cross-country road trip to track down this shadowy stranger under the caveat that if he's nowhere to be found and it's all in her head, she'll go to rehab. However, as their date with destiny draws nearer, Leo begins to suspect his sister’s tall tale might have some substance. Threshold, the second feature from co-directors Powell Robinson and Patrick R Young, following their debut Bastard (2015), was improvised and shot on two iPhones over the course of a 12-day road trip with a crew of just three. In 1958, commercial producer Frank P. Bibas began production on a television anthology series for the legendary Hal Roach Studios centered around classic horror titan Boris Karloff. Predating One Step Beyond, The Twilight Zone, and Thriller, THE VEIL crafted each episode around mysterious and unexplainable phenomena, including time travel, ESP, reincarnation, astral projection, and the supernatural. Despite it being an era ripe with science fiction and horror, the dozen episodes of THE VEIL, all of which featured a top-tier cast and crew, never saw broadcast and then vanished completely for decades. Featuring Boris Karloff as host (in all but the original version of the pilot) and cast in lead or supporting roles in each episode but one, THE VEIL harnessed in its short time a noteworthy array of talent from both behind and in front of the camera. Writers on the series included Jack Laird (Night Gallery) and Lásló Vadnay (Flesh and Fantasy), and among the directors were Arthur Hiller (The Hospital, Silver Streak), George Waggner (The Wolf Man, TV's Batman), and Herbert L. Strock (How to Make a Monster, TV's Science Fiction Theatre). The rotating casts of on-screen talent in THE VEIL included Patrick Macnee (The Howling), Katharine Squire (The Alfred Hitchcock Hour), Torin Thatcher (The Snows of Kilimanjaro), Niall MacGinnis (Island of Terror), Denise Alexander (TV's Days of our Lives), Whit Bissell (Soylent Green), and the first on-screen appearance of George Hamilton (Love at First Bite). Iconoscope is honored to present the first official Blu-ray release of the complete series, newly scanned in 4k from rare archival film elements and featuring an array of new and archival extras, including some recently rediscovered bonuses. Bonus Features: 1. 3-disc Set: Region Free Blu-rays 2. The complete series of The Veil, newly scanned and restored in 4K from 16mm and 35mm original archival elements 3. Four episode commentaries with author and film historian Tom Weaver 4. "Carrying on the Legacy" - an interview with Sara Karloff, daughter of Boris Karloff 5. "The 11th Episode" - an interview with Barbara Bibas Montero, daughter of The Veil creator Frank P. Bibas 6. Two versions of the 'backdoor pilot' episode "The Vestris": the original 'Telephone Time' version & the previously lost 'The Veil' version, hosted by Boris Karloff 7. "House of Death" - a horror-tinged episode of Schlitz Playhouse long believed to be lost, starring Boris Karloff and directed by William Asher (Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker), with audio commentary by author and telefilm historian Amanda Reyes 8. 24-page booklet with an essay by Tom Weaver 9.
