Description
With a "cool eroticism, intelligence and intensity", (Playboy), this eerie futuristic thriller, based on Margaret Atwood’s controversial and critically acclaimed best-selling novel, is filled with "large themes and deep thought ", (Roger Ebert). Boasting a phenomenal cast including Natasha Richardson (Nell) and Oscar winners Faye Dunaway (Network) and Robert Duvall (Tender Mercies), this film "dazzles with its ingenuity and shocks with its outrageousness", (WNCN Radio)! In the not-so-distant future, strong-willed and beautiful Kate (Richardson) possesses a precious commodity that most women have lost and most men want to control... fertility. In a brain-washing bootcamp that turns fertile women into surrogate mothers for social-elite men and their infertile wives, Kate thinks she’s made out well when she’s assigned to an eminent party leader (Duvall). But when she learns that he’s sterile, she’s faced with the impossible choice: produce him an heir or die!

Description
Product Description Raised by her father (Eric Bana), an ex-CIA agent, in the wilds of Finland, Hanna's upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one. Sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe, eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Cate Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence. Amazon.com Hanna has the plot of a Hollywood action blockbuster but the style of a European art movie--and this unholy hybrid is fascinating to watch. Hanna (Saoirse Ronan, The Lovely Bones) has been raised by her father (Eric Bana, Munich), an ex-covert agent, for one purpose: to murder the American agent, Marissa Wiegler (Cate Blanchett), who murdered Hanna's mother. Hanna thinks she succeeds and escapes, but she's actually being followed by Wiegler, who will go to any lengths to exterminate the girl. Hanna could have been little more than a tween reboot of La Femme Nikita, but in the hands of director Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) the movie spends as much time on Hanna's budding relationship with a girl on holiday in Morocco as it does on Hanna's capacity to kill. Even the action scenes have atypical rhythms (and one violent sequence occurs in a long, sustained shot that will make film geeks squeal with glee). Hanna is visually sumptuous, emotionally delicate, and completely unlike any other action flick you'll see. The ending goes flat as disappointingly banal plot mechanics take hold, but up until then, Hanna combines genuine thrills, unexpected complexity of character, and an unusual electronica soundtrack into an enthralling film. --Bret Fetzer

From Michael Winner, the acclaimed director of The System, The Jokers, Lawman, The Nightcomers, The Mechanic, Death Wish and The Sentinel, comes this charming WWII adventure-comedy. Stephen “Hannibal” Brooks (Oliver Reed, Burnt Offerings, The Hunting Party) is a British prisoner of war assigned to care for an elephant named Lucy in a Munich zoo. When the zoo is bombed by the Americans, Brooks is ordered to transport Lucy by train to a safer zoo in Innsbruck. But when the train is commandeered by German troops, Brooks must escort the feisty pachyderm across the Austrian border on foot. Two of the film’s best features are the terrific color photography by Robert Paynter (Little Shop of Horrors) and original musical score by the great Francis Lai (Love Story). Co-starring Michael J. Pollard (Bonnie and Clyde) and Wolfgang Preiss (The Train), Hannibal Brooks was the fourth of six collaborations between star Reed and director Winner. As disturbingly funny as it is audaciously empathetic, auteur of unease Todd Solondz’s portrait of damaged souls reaching out for connection reveals the existential void underneath middle-class suburban “normalcy.” An extraordinary ensemble cast—including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jane Adams, Lara Flynn Boyle, Ben Gazzara, and Dylan Baker—embodies an array of loosely connected New Jersey deviants, depressives, and misfits, among them a frustrated phone-sex pest, an all-American dad concealing his pedophilic urges, and a lonely woman with a grisly secret, all of whom want just one thing: to be loved. Following on from the enormous success of his breakthrough film Django, Franco Nero returned to the Wild West (Almería, Spain) to star in the same year s Texas Adios, which was released as Django 2 in some countries. Here he plays tough gunslinger Burt Sullivan, a sheriff who, along with his younger brother (Alberto Dell'Acqua, Endgame), journeys to Mexico to hunt down the sadistic bandit Cisco Delgado and avenge his father s murder. When Burt and his brother fall in with a group of Mexican revolutionaries, the stage is set for a violent climatic confrontation... Directed by veteran helmsman Ferdinado Baldi, best known for the cult Western Blindman (starring Beatles tub-thumper Ringo Starr) and the 3D extravaganza Comin' at Ya!, Texas Adios is a lesser-known Spaghetti Western gem, which boasts rapid-fire action scenes, stunning locations and stylish cinematography courtesy of Enzo Barboni (Django, Nightmare Castle). The film is presented here in an exclusive new restoration, with a wealth of extras which allow this film to be enjoyed as never before. Screen legend George C. Scott (Patton, The Day of the Dolphin) gives a strong, sensitive portrayal of a deeply religious Midwestern businessman whose daughter, while on a church-sponsored outing, runs away from home. He hires an oddball detective (Peter Boyle, The Brink’s Job), who learns that the daughter has been making cheap sex films. When the father realizes that he can no longer trust the detective, he decides to hunt for his daughter himself. Posing as a porno film producer casting a new movie, he gathers clues with ferocious determination. Finally, with the help of a prostitute (Season Hubley, Vice Squad), he locates his daughter. But is it too late? Paul Schrader, writer (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) and director (Blue Collar, American Gigolo), presents a powerful, unflinching glimpse into the dark, bizarre world of the pornography industry. Featuring cinematography by Michael Chapman (Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and music by Jack Nitzsche (The Exorcist). Special Features: • Audio Commentary by Writer/Director Paul Schrader • Audio Commentary by Film Historians Eddy Friedfeld, Lee Pfeiffer and Paul Scrabo • Theatrical Trailer • Optional English Subtitles
