Disc 2 contains Sleepless (2001) on Blu-ray, with an audio commentary by film historians Nathaniel Thompson and Troy Howarth and the set's interview featurettes with Dario Argento, Chiara Caselli, Stefano Dionisi, Franco Ferrini, Gabriele Lavia and other cast and crew (the combo's 4K Ultra HD disc is Disc 1).
A string of brutal killings in Turin has authorities worried that a copycat is recreating a murder spree from seventeen years earlier. That earlier case was blamed on Vincenzo de Fabritiis, a writer with dwarfism who has since died, which effectively closed the investigation. Now Ulisse Moretti, the detective who led the original inquiry, is pulled out of retirement and, alongside young Giacomo Gallo — whose mother was one of the supposed 'Dwarf Killer's' victims — tries to solve the new murders as the mutilated bodies keep piling up.
With Sleepless (2001), Dario Argento returned to the mood and themes of his landmark giallo Deep Red (1975), a homecoming to the subgenre that made his name. The film stars Max von Sydow and features elaborate Grand Guignol set pieces by practical-effects artist Sergio Stivaletti, plus a driving score by Goblin, who reunited for the occasion. Vinegar Syndrome presents the film on UHD for the first time, in a new 4K restoration taken from the original camera negative, with a host of new and archival bonus features.
