After James (Dan Stevens), a blind man, inexplicably regains his vision, he becomes possessed by a drive to make a better life for himself. However, his new improvementsâa nicer home, a higher paying job, tailored suits, luxury carâleave little room for the people who were part of his old, simpler life: his plain wife (Malin Akerman) and close friend Bob (Oliver Platt). As his relationships buckle under the strain of his snowballing ambition, it becomes uncertain if James can ever return from darkness. Director Ido Fluk paints a visual world that reflects the mesmerizing effect that newfound sight has on James; the vibrant backgrounds and the sun-drenched rooms are captivating in their beauty. Blu-ray / DVD Dual Edition Finally! One of the great missing films of the classic noir era - resurrected! Rescued and preserved after a five-year crusade by the Film Noir Foundation, this 1949 classic is at long last available in a clean digital version, transferred from a 35mm print painstakingly restored by UCLA Film & Television Archive. When a pair of film noir icons like Lizabeth Scott and Dan Duryea collide, sparks are sure to fly. Jane Palmer (Scott) and her husband Alan (Arthur Kennedy) mysteriously have $60,000 literally dropped in their laps. The circumstances seem mighty suspicious to Alan, who wants to turn the money over to the police. But in a materialistic rapture, Jane won't let it go. She doesn't care where it came from, or what danger might ensue - not if it will bring her the luxury she craves. Enter shady Danny Fuller (Duryea, as cocky and menacing as ever), who claims the money belongs to him. Let the games begin! Roy Huggins' snappy script (adapted from his novel) is a complex, breezy and black-hearted homage to James M. Cain and Raymond Chandler. Rapacious housewife Jane Palmer is one of the juiciest female villains in Hollywood history, and Liz Scott's best role ever. Flicker Alley is excited to present this world-premiere Blu-ray/DVD dual-format edition of Too Late For Tears, restored by UCLA Film & Television Archive and passionately championed by the Film Noir Foundation, with special thanks to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Together with Woman on the Run, this film marks the first collaboration between Flicker Alley and the Film Noir Foundation. Rode. - Chance Of A Lifetime: The Making of Too Late For Tears Produced by Steven Smith and the Film Noir Foundation and featuring Eddie Muller, Kim Morgan and Julie Kirgo, this mini-doc offers a behind-the-scenes examination of the film's original production. - Tiger Hunt: Restoring Too Late For Tears Produced by Steven Smith and the Film Noir Foundation, this is a chronicle of the multi-year mission to rescue this lost noir classic. - 24-Page Souvenir Booklet Featuring rare photographs, poster art, original lobby cards, and an essay by writer and noir-expert Brian Light.

This is a documentary about fame, the meaning of success, identity and relationships set against the backdrop of the career trajectory of the band The Darkness. Their rise to worldwide fame was sudden, the implosion was brutal, there were some strange wilderness years apart and the comeback has been a work in progress since 2011 which has seen multiple album releases and multiple tours across Europe, Australia/NZ and America. Our main protagonist, Justin Hawkins, the bands front man and singer, is the primary focus - without him the band doesn't exist, and it's he that has been and is the pied piper of their merry dance. Justin's personal journey is one of losing his identity in a hurry under the apprehension (misapprehension?) that he needed to embody the 'rockstar' trope from top to bottom and subsequently of a rebirth by slowly rediscovering his identity - this time through the hard work required to become sober and of writing new music and rebuilding the bands reputation. Dan Hawkins, his brother, is the engine driving Justin and their relationship and dynamic are both critical to understanding why and how Justin keeps going as well as being one of the key vehicles revealing the true Justin. Dan is known as the 'dad' of the band - the solid rock, stellar musician and possibly the most levelheaded. Frankie has been with them since the beginning and is in some ways a barometer and a shrewdly quirky analyser of their journey, something of an outsider in some ways. Rufus joined the band in 2015 and is the young, carefree new drummer perhaps reminiscent of Justin and the bands former, younger selves. He inadvertently lives the rock star life on their behalf. There is a sense that Rufus has helped Justin rediscover his identity, which was lost quite quickly when the band became successful. The story is told primarily through actuality shot with the band over a period of 5- 6 years, as well as a small amount of animation and some archive material to illustrate their early rise to fame. There are a number of guest interviewees, including Ed Sheeran, Bryan Adams, Jo Whiley and Roger Taylor. In summary, the overall structure of the film will briefly establish their early rise to fame and the implosion, but the bigger part will address their slow haul back to whatever success now means. On the rollercoaster of pitfalls, cringe-worthy moments, challenges, exhaustion, laughs, camaraderie and fun times, they are forced to examine the meaning of 'success'. In the end we'll also see how their past and present journeys have changed each of them, and what the future might look like. We'll have seen what being a rock star really means - the fantasy, the repercussions and the reality and we'll have seen the power of relationships, and perhaps have witnessed some cathartic resolutions. Bonus Materials Over an hour of outtakes of the band An unmissable rockumentary Alex Bilmes Esquire Magazine This documentary gives us an entertaining 'comeback' narrative arc for the Darkness, the British neo glam-rock band with outrageous campy stylings, sparkly catsuits and real songwriting talent. Description
One of legendary director Fritz Lang's first noir films, The Woman in the Window is also rightfully considered one of the most important examples of the genre, a landmark movie that became one of the initial representations of noir first singled out by French critics after WWII. A triumph for Lang, legendary writer/producer Nunnally Johnson (The Grapes of Wrath), and leading man Edward G. Robinson (shedding his earlier gangster roles to portray a love-struck obsessive), the film remains a classic American nail-biter. Robinson is Richard Wanley, a successful psychiatrist biding his time while his wife and children are on vacation when he encounters beautiful Alice (a radiant Joan Bennett), who bears an uncanny resemblance to the subject of a portrait he had just admired. When Richard and Alice retire to her home, her wealthy, jealous boyfriend intrudes, and is killed after a struggle. Alice convinces Richard to cover up the crime, but as Richard's district attorney friend (Raymond Massey) investigates and the boyfriend's bodyguard (Dan Duryea) begins to apply pressure to Richard, the walls begin to close in... With a surprising climax years ahead of its time, The Woman in the Window is suspenseful film noir at its most seductive, while also serving as an excellent companion piece to the following year's Scarlet Street, which reunited Lang with Robinson, Bennett, and Duryea in strikingly similar roles. For anyone even remotely interested in film noir, The Woman in the Window is mandatory viewing, and The Masters of Cinema Series is proud to present it in its UK debut on Blu-ray. " Variety "It's not merely a dazzling piece of suspense, but also a characteristically stark demonstration of Lang's belief in the inevitability of fate" Time Out "The Woman in the Window is a humdinger of a mystery melodrama. " - New York Times "a minor masterpiece that deserves to be remembered as more than merely a footnote in cinema history" - The Independent "This clever melodrama was (...) directed with just the right amount of moody atmosphere by expressionist master Fritz Lang (...) There's no denying the power of this particular nightmare (4 Stars) " - Radio Times
