USSR-China border, 1973: Young soldier Rafael is on guard duty when the border falls under attack from flying Chinese kung fu warriors, leaving him as the sole survivor. Utterly fascinated by the long-haired martial artists who easily dispatched his fellow guards, all while blasting forbidden Black Sabbath music from their portable radio, Rafael is struck by a revelation: he too wants to become a kung fu warrior. Looking for mentorship but with limited options, faith leads Rafael to seek martial arts teachers at the most unlikely of places: the local Eastern Orthodox monastery, where the black-clad monks begin his training. With a skeptical mother, a rival monk, and a budding love interest pulling him in different directions, Rafael finds that his journey to unlock the greatest martial art of all – the almighty power of humility – is long, winding, and full of kick-ass adventures.

From acclaimed director Michael Winterbottom (24 Hour Party People, Wonderland) and writer Hossein Amini (The Wings of the Dove, Drive) comes this bold and sweeping adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Jude the Obscure. Ugo Tognazzi (La Grande Bouffe) and Michel Serrault (Nelly & Monsieur Arnaud) reprise their roles as the two madcap domestic partners from the hilarious smash hit La Cage aux Folles. Having “become the most improbable of male screen heroes” (New York), Renato and Albin are this time taking on the secret service in an unforgettable cross-country—not to mention cross-dressing—adventure. In a move to make his partner, Renato (Tognazzi), jealous, the flamboyant Albin (Serrault) waits in a local café—dressed as a woman—hoping to be picked up. But Albin gets more than he bargains for when the fly he catches in his web is actually a spy who uses him as an unwitting courier of secret microfilm! Now on the run from ruthless agents, Albin and Renato flee to Italy where they attempt to hide out on a farm with Albin posing as Renato’s wife! Can Albin escape the deadly pursuit of these relentless spies or does he have to sustain this charade—as a woman—forever? Édouard Molinaro (A Pain in the Ass) returns to the director’s chair and maestro Ennio Morricone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) provides the score for this uproarious sequel! Special Features: -Includes Both the Original French and English Dub Audio -Theatrical Trailer -Optional English Subtitles

Brand New HD Master from a 4K Scan of the 35mm Nitrate Original Negative & Nitrate Finegrain by Paramount Pictures Archives! Screen legends Jean Arthur (The More the Merrier, A Foreign Affair) and John Wayne (Rio Bravo, Brannigan) co-star in this romantic comedy western directed by Hollywood veteran William A. Seiter (You Were Never Lovelier). Finding men had never been a problem for city girl Molly Truesdale (Arthur); finding the right man is another matter. And women have never been a problem for cowboy bachelor Duke Hudkins (Wayne), until they want to marry him. If it's true that opposites attract, these two are obviously made for each other. When Molly sets out from New York on a cross-country bus tour, she just wants to see America. But her plans take an unexpected turn out West, when she collides (literally!) with Duke while he's competing at the rodeo. He assumes she's just another pretty gal who'll fall into his arms, but she's a lady who won't be roped easily by a brawling, rough-and-ready cowboy. Jean Arthur shows the spunk that made her one of the biggest stars of Hollywood's Golden Era, and John Wayne is at his most charming when he falls for her against his better judgment. Charles Winninger (Nothing Sacred), Grant Withers (Trigger, Jr.) and comedy legend Phil Silvers (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) co-star in this truly classic romantic comedy. Description
Exploitation films were often ripped from the most sensational headlines of the day, and few headlines were as scandalous as those reporting a murder within the community of a masochistic religious cult in northern New Mexico. Los Hermanos Penitentes celebrated Lent by enacting elaborate tableaus of flagellation, self-mutilation, and crucifixion. Envisioning the box-office potential of such a spectacle, cinematographer Roland Price (Marihuana: Weed With Roots in Hell) shot several reels of footage of the rituals, then teamed with producer Harry Revier (Child Bride) to fashion a murder mystery around the documentary material. For years, The Lash of the Penitentes flourished on the exploitation circuit, sometimes with new footage cut into the feature (and most notoriously: the trailer). Usually circulated in an abbreviated 35-minute version, this Kino Classics edition was restored from film elements preserved by the Library of Congress, and represents the uncensored 48-minute cut: The Penitente Murder Case. Special Features: -The Penitente Murder Case (the complete, uncensored, 48-minute cut) -The Lash of the Penitentes (the censored and condensed 35-minute version) -Audio commentary by series curator Bret Wood -Optional English SDH subtitles -Trailer gallery

Description
Le Pont du Nord (1981) is an entrancing puzzle film with the city of Paris as a continually shifting game board. It is one of director Jacques Rivettes most mysterious and haunting works, a dark companion piece to Celine and Julie Go Boating (1974). Marie (Bulle Ogier, L'amour Fou, Maitresse) has just been released from prison, and encounters the paranoid loner Baptiste (Pascale Ogier, Full Moon in Paris). They follow Marie's ex-lover Julien (Pierre Clementi) and his talismanic briefcase as Paris begins to open up to them as a series of enigmatic clues. The city is a labyrinth of possibilities but no certainties, a place of fantastical fables (here be dragons) and the brute realities of the street. Shot on luminous 16mm at exclusively outdoor locations by the great cinematographers William Lubtchansky (Shoah Every Man for Himself, Regular Lovers) and Caroline Champetier (Holy Motors), Le Pont du Nord is surreal, gorgeous and heartbreaking, and is surely one of Rivettes greatest works.

Newly restored in 4K! In King Hu's masterpiece Legend of the Mountain, a traveling scholar is tasked with translating a Buddhist sutra said to have immense power over the spirits of the afterlife. During his research he loses his way in the mountains, encountering ghostly presences amid a haunting fantasia of color, light and landscape. King Hu rose to prominence in the 1960s and '70s as a superb director of wuxia films (A Touch of Zen), a popular Chinese action genre of swords, sorcery and chivalrous heroes. Legend of the Mountain comes from the director's late period, when his visual artistry was at the height of its powers.

Description
Let the Corpses Tan is a deliriously thrilling homage to Spaghetti Westerns and 1970s Italian crime films. Belgian filmmakers Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani trade in the crushed velvet and creeping shadows of their giallo-worshipping first two films (Amer, The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears) for blistering sun, creaking leathre and raining bullets. After stealing a truckload of gold bars, a gang of thieves absconds to the ruins of a remote village perched on the cliffs of the Mediterranean. Home to a reclusive yet hypersexual artist and her motley crew of family and admirers, it seems like a perfect hideout. But when two cops roll up on motorcycles to investigate, the hamlet erupts into a hallucinatory battlefield as both sides engage in an all-day, all-night firefight rife with double-crosses and dripping with blood. Based on a classic pulp novel by Jean-Patrick Manchette and Jean-Pierre Bastid and featuring vintage music cues by Ennio Morricone, Let the Corpses Tan is a deliriously stylish cinematic fever dream that will fire up your senses like buckshot to the brain. Special Features: Audio commentary by film critic Alexandra Heller-Nicholas and Queensland Film Festival Director John Edmond | Trailer
