Photography for the real world took place at locations around Los Angeles, and at the U.S. government's futuristic Lawrence Livermore Laboratory outside Oakland, California.|The Mathematic Applications Group, Inc. (MAGI), was the film's single largest contributor of computer imagery, using a transcontinental computer hookup to speed up delivery of its work to Disney Studios in Burbank. The link allowed filmmakers to cut the amount of time it took to create each scene by two and a half to five days.
