Ever been to Iceland? Me neither. That's one of the reasons I love watching movies from countries I'll probably never see. I'm also a big fan of Janus Films, who works with Criterion on a lot of these. I really enjoyed this one. The cinematography does a great job building symbolism throughout the movie, and there's some really dry, smart humor mixed in too. Picture and sound are both solid on C...

I somehow never saw Drugstore Cowboy, which is exactly the kind of movie I like using 3DBR for. It's Gus Van Sant's 1989 film about Matt Dillon running a crew that robs drugstores in early-70s Portland, and I ended up really enjoying it. I usually don't go for drug movies because they lean on hallucination scenes or get cartoonish, but this one doesn't, and I appreciated that. It plays it straigh...

I'm a big Guy Ritchie fan, so this was an easy pick, and it's a pretty typical one for him. A lot of the movie is spent setting things up so you can watch how they pull it off, and that's the fun of it. The action is good and the acting is solid all around. The plot and story were just ok and could have used some work, but it was still an enjoyable rental. Picture and sound were both good for a ...

I already had the Blu-ray, but wanted to check out the 4K transfer before deciding if it was worth upgrading. This is definitely a noticeable step up. The picture is much sharper, colors and black levels look better, and it still keeps a really nice natural film look. Probably the best I’ve ever seen Rocky IV look. The audio is solid too, especially during the fights and all the music throughout...

I actually purchased this one, but ARROW crushed this one. The original bluray was horrible, you wont be sorry in the quality. I really think this was an under rated movie. My wife and I really enjoyed revisiting this one.

I had never seen Foul Play before, which is exactly the kind of movie I like using 3DBR for. I’m usually a collector and prefer buying physical media, but I don’t always want to blind buy something I’ve never seen. Goldie Hawn, Chevy Chase, Dudley Moore and Burgess Meredith made this one interesting enough to give it a shot, especially being a late 70s comedy that I somehow missed. Kino also see...

Really glad Shout brought this one back. Wildcats is exactly the type of 80s movie I enjoy — simple, fun, a little cheesy, and Goldie Hawn carries the whole thing. It’s definitely not one of the greatest sports movies ever made, but it has a lot of charm, and seeing early Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson is pretty cool too. The new 2K transfer is solid. Nothing that’s going to blow you away, bu...

Really enjoyed this one. I’m a sucker for foreign movies and somehow this one had slipped completely under my radar. Penélope Cruz, Antonio Banderas and Oscar Martínez are all great. It’s basically a satire about filmmaking, actors and their egos, and the more ridiculous it gets the better it becomes. Definitely a different type of comedy and probably not for everyone, but I thought it was really...

I love Arrow and this is exactly the type of release they do so well. The Mask is still one of my favorite Jim Carrey movies and just such a fun 90s movie. Carrey is completely over the top, Cameron Diaz is great, and the movie still feels completely unique. The 4K transfer is excellent. Great colors, deep blacks, really nice detail and it still has a natural film look. Probably the best I’ve eve...

I’m a big Kino fan, so I was really happy to see Billy Madison finally get a 4K release. This is one of those movies I’ve watched so many times over the years and it still makes me laugh. The 4K transfer is really good. Nice detail, great color and it still keeps that natural 90s film look instead of being overly cleaned up. Definitely the best I’ve ever seen this movie look. The audio is solid ...
