Description
Enid Baines, a film screener at the BBFC, has earned an unsavory reputation for being the organization's strictest censors of violent films. Unexpectedly, Enid is contacted by Frederick North, a notorious director of exceptionally brutal, low budget horror movies, who has requested that she personally review his work for classification. While viewing one of North's films, Enid is struck by its narrative similarities to the disappearance of her own sister years earlier. But when she finds another of North's films which stars a woman who bares a striking resemblance to her sister, Enid's life begins spiraling out of control, sending her on a mysterious and terrifying journey into the dark and violent recesses of her past. The acclaimed feature film directing debut of Prano Bailey-Bond, CENSOR is a scathing indictment of Britain's notorious Video Nasty era, imagined as a horror film that's every bit as brutal and twisted as the Nasties themselves. Exquisitely photographed on 35mm by Annika Summerson and featuring an electrifying score by Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch, Vinegar Syndrome Pictures proudly presents CENSOR in its Blu-ray debut, with extensive bonus features including Bailey-Bond's earlier short film, NASTY. Bonus Features: 1. Commentary with director Prano Bailey-Bond and cinematographer Annika Summerson 2. Commentary with historian and author Kat Ellinger 3. Interview with director Prano Bailey-Bond and actress Niamh Algar 4. Interview with cinematographer Annika Summerson 5. Interview with editor Mark Towns 6. Interview with sound designer Tim Harrison 7. Interview with composer Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch 8. Short film NASTY directed by Prano Bailey-Bond 9. Video essay by Chris O'Neill 10. Description
Product Description Using letters Anna Magdalena Bach wrote to her husband, seminal composer Johann Sebastian, filmmakers Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet created one of the most precise, rewarding biopics ever put to screen. CHRONICLE OF ANNA MAGDALENA BACH's intense emotional pull can be understood by its status as a musical film in the most thorough sense: its performances staged as extended sequences set within the very spaces once occupied by Bach himself, with trained performers both donning and playing items accurate to the period are immense, bringing us closer to the sound than was ever thought possible. Immaculately restored on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, this extraordinary film invites viewers to experience a bygone age. SPECIAL FEATURES - New digital restoration - Jean-Marie Straub introduces "Chronicle" at the Swiss Film Archive (2013, 34 minutes) - Interview with actress Christiane Lang Drewanz (2012, 30 minutes) - The Cinema of Straub & Huillet, an introduction by author Alicia Malone for FilmStruck (5 minutes) - "The Bridegroom, The Actress, and The Pimp" (1968, 23 minutes), a short film by Jean-Marie Straub and Danièle Huillet featuring Rainer Werner Fassbinder - "The Mother" (2011, 20 minutes), a short film by Jean-Marie Straub - Theatrical Trailer Review "Straub and Huillet revolutionized the musical biography." --Dave Kehr, The New York Times "The net effect is not having seen a film but having lived a real moment, in the presence of monumental music." --Michael Atkinson, The Village Voice "The experience is both transcendent and material... A recording of magnificent music... At once austere and rhapsodic, it evokes the 18th century while feeling as present as a live concert. An excellent new digital restoration." --J. Hoberman, The New York Times

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* At a catholic high school in the Filipino city of Tuguegarao, a rambunctious batch of students rebel against all expectations to be good and clean: a germaphobe is tested by a bout of uncontrollable diarrhea; a trio of emos are forced to perform tinikling (a traditional Philippine folk dance) with a normie; an uncircumcised boy attempts to ask an ostracized pregnant girl to prom; and the mayor’s son is tempted by his father’s corrupt example while running for youth council chairman. Every frame of filmmaker Glenn Barit’s CLEANERS was printed, hand colored with highlighters, and then rescanned, giving each of its angst-drenched emotions a singular handmade texture and the whole film a bone-deep nostalgia for growing up in the Philippines in the early aughts. One-of-a-kind visuals, plus earnest tracks by Filipino emo band Typecast and a swelling score composed by Barit himself, compel us to feel the fullest extent of CLEANERS’ all at once loud, soft, funny, and sweet teenage antics and affections. Bonus Features: 1. Audio Commentary with Director Glenn Barit 2. Newly Commissioned Short Film, Yung Huling Swimming Reunion Before Life Happens (Glenn Barit, 2023, 20 minutes) 3. THE NORTH AMERICAN HOME VIDEO PREMIERE! Following the international hits GRAND SLAM and MACHINE GUN McCAIN, director Giuliano Montaldo set his sights on a different kind of project, a feature for RAI-TV that remains one of the most unique and criminally underseen thrillers of the '70s: At the local cinema, an audience watches a Spaghetti Western matinee. During the film's on-screen climactic duel, a bullet is fired into a patron. With no leads and a theater full of suspects, police investigators lock the doors, put everyone back in their seats and run the movie again. But will this shot in the dark reveal the real killer? THIEF. WARRIOR. GLADIATOR. KING. Ripped from the pages of Robert E. Howard's beloved pulp stories, and brought to the screen by maverick director John Milius, Conan the Barbarian is one of the most beloved fantasy-action adventures in Hollywood history, which not only popularized a new subgenre - the sword-and-sorcery film - but also made a cinematic icon of its star, former bodybuilding sensation Arnold Schwarzenegger. In an ancient land, young Conan witnesses his family being slaughtered by an evil snake cult ransacking his village. Raised as a slave, the adult Conan (Schwarzenegger) rises up through the fighting pits, becoming an unparalleled and fearsome warrior. Unexpectedly freed, Conan and his companions - two fighters, Subotai (Gerry Lopez) and Valeria (Sandahl Bergman), as well as a Wizard (Mako) - are enlisted by King Osric (Max von Sydow) to free his daughter from the hypnotic clutches of the same cult that murdered Conan's family long ago, led by the shape-shifting sorcerer Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones). Crom has commanded it: at long last, Milius' glorious ode to the days of high adventure (co-written by Oliver Stone) has been restored in glorious 4K with hours of bonus features and a heart-racing Atmos remix that immerses you in the action, accompanied throughout by an electrifying, career-best score by the late Basil Poledouris (RoboCop). If you do not listen... then to hell with you!

THE MOST POWERFUL LEGEND OF ALL IS BACK IN A NEW ADVENTURE. After conquering the box office with his first outing as the sword-wielding Cimmerian, Arnold Schwarzenegger returns in Conan the Destroyer, an exciting and action-packed sequel from veteran director Richard Fleischer (The Vikings) that amps up the fantasy-adventure and hews closer to the character’s pulp and comic book origins. Still mourning the death of his beloved Valeria, Conan is given an offer he can’t refuse by Queen Taramis (Sarah Douglas): he will escort her niece, Princess Jehnna (Olivia d’Abo), on a quest to find a mystical horn that will awaken a slumbering god, in return for Valeria being brought back from the dead. With a new group of companions by his side – including a fierce warrior woman named Zula (Grace Jones) – Conan must battle an onslaught of evil beasts, wizards and cannibals, little suspecting that the wicked Taramis intends to betray him with the aid of her head guard, Bombaata (Wilt Chamberlain). Photographed by the great Academy Award-winning cinematographer Jack Cardiff, with another rousing score by Basil Poledouris, Conan the Destroyer has finally been restored in 4K with hours of brand new bonus features taking you deeper into the legend of the thief who would be king. 4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAY LIMITED EDITION CONTENTS Brand new 4K restoration from the original negative by Arrow Films 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (2160p) presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) Newly restored original mono audio and remixed Dolby Atmos surround audio Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing Archive feature commentary by director Richard Fleischer Archive feature commentary by actors Olivia d’Abo and Tracey Walter Archive feature commentary by actor Sarah Douglas with genre historians Kim Newman & Stephen Jones Brand new feature commentary by genre historian Paul M. After terrifying audiences worldwide with the blockbuster J-Horror classic Ring and its sequel, director Hideo Nakata returned to the genre for Dark Water, another highly atmospheric, and critically acclaimed, tale of the supernatural which took the common theme of the “dead wet girl” to new heights of suspense and drama. Based upon on a short story by Ring author Koji Suzuki, Dark Water follows Yoshimi, a single mother struggling to win sole custody of her only child, Ikuko. When they move into a new home within a dilapidated and long-forgotten apartment complex, Yoshimi begins to experience startling visions and unexplainable sounds, calling her mental well-being into question, and endangering not only her custody of Ikuko, but perhaps their lives as well. Beautifully shot by cinematographer Junichiro Hayashi (Ring, Pulse), and featuring an especially unnerving sound design, Dark Water successfully merges spine-tingling tension with a family’s heart-wrenching emotional struggle, creating one of the very finest and most unsettling contemporary Japanese horror films. 4K ULTRA HD BLU-RAY LIMITED EDITION CONTENTS 4K (2160p) Ultra HD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) Original lossless 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio Optional English subtitles Ghosts, Rings and Water – interview with director Hideo Nakata Family Terrors – interview with author Koji Suzuki Visualizing Horror – interview with cinematographer Junichiro Hayashi Archive interviews with actors Hitomi Kuroki & Asami Mizukawa and theme song artist Shikao Suga Original ‘making-of’ documentary Trailers and TV Spots Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Peter Strain Illustrated collector’s booklet featuring writing on the film by David Kalat and Michael Gingold

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. When Joyce and Andy Richardson are offered the chance to foster a young boy, seemingly abandoned on the side of a secluded road, they take him in, treating him as the son they never had. Although he remembers his name is Daryl, everything else about his past, his parents, and how he ended up on that secluded road remains a mystery; Daryl cannot remember a thing! On the other hand, he quickly demonstrates incredible intelligence and the uncanny ability to learn any skill shown to him on the very first try. However, when a mysterious and sinister seeming couple arrive at the Richardson's home, claiming to be Daryl’s real parents, they and their adopted son are thrust into an incredible, high stakes cover up and fight for survival as Daryl’s actual identity is revealed, and his life put into immediate jeopardy. Arriving at the height of adult-friendly family films, which offset their kid-friendly marketing with complex and at times violent stunts along with a pervasive sense of menace and danger, director Simon Wincer's (Quigley Down Under) D.A.R.Y.L. features an all-star supporting cast including Michael McKean (This Is Spinal Tap, Coneheads), Colleen Camp (Clue, Death Game) and Josef Sommer (Dirty Harry, Close Encounters of the Third Kind). *This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. Jaxxon Pierce (Stephen Dorff, Blade), a capitalist in a now-barren Earth is responsible for manufacturing an immortality serum named "Divinity", which was originally developed by his late father Sterling Pierce (Scott Bakula, Lord of Illusions). Two brothers (Moises Arias and Jason Genao, Ender's Game and Logan, respectively), crash into the decaying Earth to stop Jaxxon from capitalizing on his serum, which is synthesized utilizing heinous methods and leaving an increasingly dire infertility rate in its wake. The twins hold Jaxxon hostage, dosing him with his own drug until his body becomes monstrous, setting the stage for a practical effects-fueled climax full of gruesome make-up and stop motion animation that has to be seen to be believed. Written and directed by Eddie Alcazar (Perfect), produced by Steven Soderbergh (Solaris) and gorgeously shot on 16mm black and white reversal film, DIVINITY is a sci-fi horror show like no other in recent memory. Cinématographe proudly presents Ron Maxwell’s LITTLE DARLINGS. In the fleeting summer days of 1980, fifteen year old girls Ferris (Tatum O’Neal, Paper Moon) and Angel (Kristy McNichol, Two Moon Junction) attend Camp Little Wolf outside of Atlanta, Georgia as an escape from the city. Coming from different walks of life, with the privileged Ferris at odds with the scrappy, streetwise Angel, the two immediately end up in a disagreement during their bus ride to camp which is only exacerbated by their lodging accommodations once they arrive, bunking next to one another. Fueled by their competitive peers, the two enter into a contest to see who will lose their virginity first, Angel to camper from the other side of the lake Randy (Matt Dillon, Wild Things) or Ferris to camp counselor Gary (Armand Assante, Gotti). Through the trial, the two learn as much about each other as they do themselves, turning a ribald competition into budding days of friendship. Long elusive on home video, Ron Maxwell’s (Gettysburg) charming teen sex comedy/drama is an evocative, and often very funny, antidote and precursor to the more raucous (and masculine) sex comedies of its era, including the similarly loss of virginity focused Porky’s and Losin’ It. Written by Dalene Young (The Baby-Sitters Club) and Kimi Peck, with lush on location photography by noted Czech cinematographer Bedřich Baťka (Marketa Lazarová), Cinématographe is proud to bring LITTLE DARLINGS to blu-ray and 4K UHD for the first time in the world, newly restored from archival elements and full of illuminating special features that tell the story of this contemporary coming-of-age classic. Bonus Features: 1. Limited Edition MediaBook (8,000 units) 2. Region Free UHD/Region A Blu-ray 3. Audio Commentary with director Ron Maxwell 4. Audio Commentary with Millie De Chirico of I Saw What You Did podcast 4. Alternate Scenes with commentary by director Ron Maxwell 5. Hour long video interview with director Ron Maxwell 6. "Don’t Let the Title Fool You: Little Darlings Beyond the Teen Sex Comedy": a video essay by Samm Deighan 7. Essays by writers Kate Hagen and Quatoyiah Murry 8. English SDH subtitles

IF YOU WERE TERRIFIED BY “DAWN OF THE DEAD” & FRIDAY THE 13TH YOU MUST SEE NIGHTMARE! It's been called "graphic and unapologetic" (SexGoreMutants), "brutally effective" (Screen Rant) and "a forgotten classic" (Horror News). It remains the most reviled, controversial and misunderstood genre film of the '80s. Now "the most repulsive, degrading and horrifying movie ever made" (NY Daily News) can be experienced like never before: When a homicidal mental patient (an enduringly disturbing performance by Baird Stafford) flees an experimental drug program, he'll leave a 5-day trail of psychosexual carnage from the peep shows of 42nd Street to the gore-soaked shores of Florida. Written and directed by Romano Scavolini, this "devastating masterpiece" (Cinefear) - whose UK release as NIGHTMARES IN A DAMAGED BRAIN led to the imprisonment of distributor David Hamilton-Grant - has been scanned from the internegative and various foreign print sources to create the most complete version ever assembledand presented for the first time in 4K Ultra High Definition. *This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. One of the bloodiest and most creative, late 20th century horror franchises, THE PROPHECY TRILOGY, all of which star Oscar® winner Christopher Walken as the evil angel Gabriel, broke new ground in 1990s horror with their high concept narratives and gruesome practical effects. Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present the 4K UHD debuts of THE PROPHECY 1-3, or the "Gabriel" trilogy, all newly and exclusively restored and featuring an extensive array of new and archival bonus materials. In Gregory Widen’s acclaimed directorial debut, THE PROPHECY (1994), Elias Koteas (Crash) stars as Thomas Dagget, a former seminary student who has turned his back on religion, instead becoming a homicide detective. Thomas’ latest case, of a strangely deformed and mutilated corpse, pushes him into the middle of a bloody battle between Simon (Eric Stoltz), an angel of good, and Gabriel (Christopher Walken), an angel of evil, each of whom are attempting to gather souls and build an army in order to prevent - or bring about - the apocalypse. In director Greg Spence’s gruesome follow-up, THE PROPHECY II (1998), dark angel Gabriel, vengeful over his failure to bring about the end times, returns to earth intent on spreading violence and destruction, but soon sets his sights on Valarie Rosales (Jennifer Beals), a nurse who, unbeknownst to her, is pregnant with an angel. If Gabriel is able to kill both her and her child, he will hold sufficient evil power to finish his war in heaven. Finally, in director Patrick Lussier’s closing entry in the trilogy, THE PROPHECY 3: THE ASCENT (2000), the now human Gabriel is faced with an unlikely challenge - to assist Danyael, a resurrected half angel/half human in stopping the evil angel sent to kill him, and to help Danyael prevent Heaven's war and stop the coming of a second genocidal God - Pyriel. Bonus Features: 1. 4-disc Set: 4K Ultra HD x2 / Region A Blu-ray x2 2. 4K UHD presented in High-Dynamic-Range 3. Newly scanned & restored in 4K from their 35mm interpositives 4. *This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. The year is 1991. Max and Albert are two pioneers about to embark on the scientific experiment of a lifetime, volunteering to be the first ever cryogenically frozen humans. If all goes well they'll wake up in 3 years to fame and fortune. Luckily for Max and Albert the experiment is a success...until they find out that the year is now 2044, a global war has taken place, the M-Bomb has wiped out all male species on Earth and reproduction is handled via test tubes in a lab. The Congress of the World Women's League is in complete control and they're the only two men alive! What seems like a dream scenario soon turns into a nightmare when they realize males have been demonized and 'The League' may be keeping a sinister secret. They'll have to convince The League that they're ready to serve in the old ways of reproduction or lose their manhood in the process of 'Naturalization'! SEXMISSION is a side-splitting satire from Polish director Juliusz Machulski that straddles the genre lines of sci-fi and sex-romp in equal measure! Critical and skewering of both chauvinist fears about the extremes of feminism and the Polish government's fallible attempt to pull the wool over its citizen's eyes, it features a cast of Polish all-stars from Jerzy Stuhr (Dekalog) and Olgierd Łukaszewicz (Interrogation) to Boguslawa Pawelec (Blind Chance) and Dorota Stalinska (Ga-ga: Glory to the Heroes). Vinegar Syndrome Labs is proud to present the North American Blu-ray debut of SEXMISSION! Bonus Features: 1. Region Free Blu-ray 2. Newly restored by Vinegar Syndrome from an existing studio master 3. Commentary track with author and film historian Jeremy Richey 4. "Mission-Exmission-Sexmission" (15 min) - an interview with actor Olgierd Łukaszewicz 5. "Dark Side of the Moon: Science Fiction Films in The Polish People's Republic" (12 min) - an interview with film historian Tomasz Kolankiewicz 6. "Mission Accomplished?: Womenworlds and Male Power" (17 min) - a video essay by author and film historian Andrew Nette 7. Reversible sleeve artwork 8. Newly translated English subtitles

In 1977, fight choreographer Sammo Hung made one last film under his mentor, director Huang Feng (Lady Whirlwind, Hapkido) before graduating to the director’s chair himself with The Iron-Fisted Monk. That film was the rarely-seen martial arts ensemble thriller The Shaolin Plot, which sees the pair reunite with Hong Kong heavy Chan Sing (New Fist of Fury). Prince Daglen (Sing) is hellbent on completing his comprehensive collection of Chinese martial arts manuals and mastering each form against his opponents. With only two manuals left to obtain, he sends his most dangerous henchman, a renegade monk (Hung) armed with two golden cymbals acting as flying guillotines, to steal the manual of Wu-Tang. To steal the sacred texts of Shaolin, however, the wicked Daglen will have to infiltrate the temple himself. The stage is set for a clash between Daglen, his cronies and surviving Wu-Tang student Little Tiger (James Tien, The Big Boss), alongside a lethal duo of Shaolin warrior monks (Casanova Wong, Warriors Two and Kwan Yung Moon, My Young Auntie). Based on a story by legendary storyteller Ni Kuang (The 36th Chamber of Shaolin), The Shaolin Plot is a classic tale of martial arts intrigue and deception, combining the incoming new wave of action with the old, resulting in one of the most overlooked and underrated kung fu classics from one of the most prolific Hong Kong film studios of all time! Product Description “I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” Legendary director Don Siegel (Dirty Harry) directs the iconic John Wayne as an ageing gunfighter dying of cancer in his final screen appearance, a superb adaptation of Glendon Swarthout's classic western novel, The Shootist. John Bernard Books is the stuff of legend, a renowned ‘shootist’ whose reputation looms large. But it’s 1901, and like the old west, John is dying and a reputation like his draws trouble like an outhouse draws flies. As word spreads that the famous gunfighter is on his last legs, the vultures begin to gather; old enemies, the marshal, newspaper men, an undertaker, all eager to see him dead. Other men might die quietly in bed or take their own lives, but J. B. Books will choose his executioner and face down death with a pistol in each hand. With an outstanding cast that features not only Wayne, but James Stewart, Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard, Scatman Crothers and John Carradine, The Shootist is an elegiac ode to a monumental screen presence and to the Western genre itself. Old Hollywood collides with New Hollywood, and screen horror with real-life horror, in the startling debut feature from Peter Bogdanovich. Produced by Roger Corman, this chillingly prescient vision of American-made carnage casts Boris Karloff as a version of himself: an aging horror-movie icon whose fate intersects with that of a seemingly ordinary young man (Tim O’Kelly) on a psychotic shooting spree around Los
