Product Description Once upon a time in 'Fairy Tale Land', all is going well: Cinderella's at the ball, Rapunzel's letting her hair down, and Sleeping Beauty's about to get a big smooch. But just as it's all headed for 'Happily Ever After', there's a slight hitch: the wise Wizard--who keeps the scales of good and evil in balance--goes on holiday, resulting in his two assistants, Munk and Mambo, slipping up and letting Cinderella's wicked stepmother, Frieda, get hold of his magic staff. With this, Frieda is able to take over 'Fairy Tale Land', let the bad guys win, and turn the ending into 'Happily N'Ever After'. Now Cinderella--'Ella' to her friends--is playing in a whole new ball game. Instead of waiting for her handsome prince to find her, she's got to wake up from her romantic dream, find a way to stop Frieda, and restore the balance of good and evil. With her best friend at her side, and an unlikely army of dwarves, fairies, and Munk and Mambo to back her up, Ella leaps into action. Can she save the d Amazon.com With the success of Shrek, more irreverent animated fairy tales (like Hoodwinked) were inevitable. Unfortunately, the original blockbuster set the bar so high--for characterization, humor, and heart--that other such 'toons are sure to seem redundant. Neither as clever nor as intricately rendered as the tale of the great green ogre, Happily N'Ever After is no exception. That said, small children may find it easier to follow, i.e. no Matrix references. As with the live-action Ella Enchanted, the CGI-animated story revolves around a downtrodden lass named Ella (Sarah Michelle Gellar). Her full name, naturally, is Cinderella. The man of her dreams is pea-brained Prince Humperdink (Patrick Warburton). Little does she know that royal dishwasher Rick (Freddie Prinze Jr., Gellar's real-life husband) has his eye on her. When the Wizard (George Carlin) goes off on a golfing vacation, he leaves bumbling assistants Munk (Wallace Shawn) and Mambo (Andy Dick) in charge. In no time at all, they get into a scuffle, and Ella's evil stepmother, Frieda (Sigourney Weaver), swoops in to take control of Fairy Tale Land. Her first order of business: Let the bad guys win. Consequently, Sleeping Beauty continues to doze, the Seven Dwarves wind up in jail, etc. Ella joins forces with Rick to set things right. Along the way, she realizes that the lowly lad has more princely qualities than the actual prince, and Frieda's reign turns out to be shorter than intended. It's not a bad idea, but the movie drags and the tunes are unmemorable. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Product Description Twenty years after Vanya on 42nd Street, Wallace Shawn and Andre Gregory reunited to produce another idiosyncratic big-screen version of a classic play, this time Henrik Ibsen's Bygmester Solness (Master Builder Solness). Brought pristinely to the screen by Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs), this is a compellingly abstract reimagining; it features Shawn (who also wrote the adaptation) as a visionary yet tyrannical middle-aged architect haunted by figures from his past. A Master Builder, like Vanya, is the result of many years of rehearsals, a living, breathing, constantly shifting work that unites theater, film, and dream. Cinema devotee Mort Rifkin (Wallace Shawn) accompanies his publicist wife Sue (Gina Gershon) to the San Sebastian Film Festival in Spain, worried that her fascination with her young film director client, Philippe (Louis Garrel), might be more than professional. In addition, Mort hopes the change of scenery will provide a respite from his struggle to write a first novel that lives up to his impossibly exacting standards. Turned off by the lavish praise showered on Philippe’s film, which he considers banal, Mort becomes preoccupied with the cinema classics he once taught as a professor, by masters like Bergman, Fellini, Godard, Truffaut, and Buñuel. Mort’s relentlessly dismissive opinions of Philippe, Sue’s current focus as a professional and someone she greatly admires, strains their already frayed relationship. Mort’s mood lightens when he meets Jo Rojas (Elena Anaya), a kindred spirit whose marriage to tempestuous painter Paco (Sergi López) is also causing her pain. While Mort’s personal tastes have sometimes pushed people away, Jo’s intellect and shared sensibility draw them closer together. While Sue spends her days with Philippe, Mort’s relationship with Jo deepens and he rekindles his love for classic films. Reflecting on the events of his life through the prism of those great movies, Mort finds renewed hope for his future. Filled with absurdist humor, Woody Allen’s RIFKIN’S FESTIVAL blends unreal situations with interwoven tales of romance and heartache to create a loving tribute to the transformative power of film. n/a

Product Description The creative minds behind Disney-Pixar's groundbreaking animated blockbusters invite you back inside the toy box for a heartwarming and hilarious movie experience you'll never forget. In TOY STORY 3, Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen) and the rest of the TOY STORY gang return for an all-new adventure, along with a few new faces -- some plastic, some plush -- including Barbie's counterpart Ken (voiced by Michael Keaton), a thespian hedgehog named Mr. Pricklepants (voiced by Timothy Dalton) and a strawberry-scented bear named Lots-O-Huggin' Bear (voiced by Ned Beatty). It's the "biggest, best, most exciting TOY STORY of them all," raves Access Hollywood's Scott Mantz. As Andy prepares to depart for college, Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of Andy's faithful toys wonder what will become of them. But, when a mix-up lands them at Sunnyside Daycare, they meet a host of new toys and soon discover a wild new adventure is just beginning! Buzzing with hours of bonus features including the Pixar short film DAY & NIGHT, TOY STORY 3 goes to infinity and beyond! Set Contains: The clarity of Blu-ray makes Toy Story 3 look terrific. The extras include Teddy Newton's extremely clever 2-D/3-D short "Day & Night," which juxtaposes imagery effectively, even without 3-D glasses. In some very funny behind-the-scenes footage, Spanish animator Carlos Baena shows how he worked out the movement style of the hilarious "Spanish Buzz." The mini-documentary The Gang's All Here features interviews with the returning and new vocal cast members. Blake Clark speaks poignantly about replacing his friend, the late Jim Varney, as Slinky Dog. In a rare interview, toymaker Albert Chan recalls how he decided to make Buzz and Woody toys after the big companies turned Pixar down: he's sold more than 35 million Buzz Lightyear figures to date. But the most satisfying extra is the Epilogue, which shows the toys at Sunnyside enjoying life without Lotso and Andy's Toys having fun in Bonnie's Room--including Mr. Pricklepants in an improbable staging of "Romeo and Juliet." --Charles Solomon

In the nineties, André Gregory mounted a series of spare, private performances of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya in a crumbling Manhattan playhouse. These treasures of pure theater would have been lost to time had they not been captured on film, with subtle cinematic brilliance, by Louis Malle (My Dinner with André). In Vanya On 42nd Street, a stellar cast of actors—including Wallace Shawn, Julianne Moore, Brooke Smith, and George Gaynes—embark on a full read-through of Uncle Vanya (adapted into English by David Mamet); the result is as memorable and emotional a screen version of Chekhov’s masterpiece as one could ever hope to see. This film, which turned out to be Malle’s last, is a tribute to the playwright’s devastating work as well as to the creative process itself.
