Description
From Barry Sonnenfeld, the acclaimed director of The Addams Family, Get Shorty, Men in Black and Big Trouble, comes this sparkling romantic comedy starring Michael J. Fox (Secret of My Success) and Gabrielle Anwar (Scent of a Woman). Douglas Ireland (Fox) is in one heck of a bind. While he caters to the whims of the super-rich, he dreams of building his own luxury hotel and hopes that a wealthy but unscrupulous investor (Anthony Higgins, Young Sherlock Holmes) will help. There’s one condition: Ireland must “baby-sit” the investor’s beautiful young mistress (Anwar). But soon, he must decide whether the love of his life is worth more than the dream of his life. In the grand tradition of classic comedies, this sophisticated and witty film puts a delightful spin on love, laughter and romance. The wonderful supporting cast includes Bob Balaban (A Mighty Wind), Michael Tucker (TV’s L.A. Law), Udo Kier (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective), Dan Hedaya (A Night at the Roxbury), Simon Jones (TV’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy), Fyvush Finkel (TV’s Picket Fences) and fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi!

Product Description In a house haunted with memories, gangster and Father Ulysses Pick (Jason Patric) arrives home after a long absence towing the body of a teenaged girl and a bound and gagged young man. His gang waits inside his house having shot their way past police. There is friction in the ranks. Ulysses, however, is focused on one thing: journeying through the house room by room and reaching his wife Hyacinth (Isabella Rossellini) in her bedroom upstairs. His Odyssey eventually becomes an emotional tour as the ghostly nooks and crannies of the house reveal more about the mysterious Pick family. Review I feel charged! says the man in the electric chair. A great Guy Maddin film will do that to you and make no mistake, this is one of his great ones. Maddin s mad mélange of melodramatic ghosts and meddlesome mobsters frames a memory tour like none other, exploding two genres with one powerful pop. Jason Patric is Homer-iffic as Ulysses, a charismatic gangster whose violent personal odyssey returns him to his haunted home, therein to confront the restless spirits and animated bodies who haunt him --The Toronto Star At times as creepy as The Shining --Gavin Smith, Film Comment 3 ½ Stars. Surreal, sensational and weird, the film is pure maddeningly, magic Maddin. Winnipeg's Guy Maddin remains the most innovative, high-risk gambler in Canadian cinema. --Toronto Sun

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. In the midst of the European witch trials, a small Austrian town is subject to the sadistic whims of self-appointed witchfinder Albino, who inflicts torture and agonizing death on those he accuses of conspiracy with the Devil. But when the zealous Lord Cumberland arrives, along with his executioner and aristocratic young attendant Christian, to take over the responsibility of local witch-hunting, the town is plunged into even greater depths of terror and depravity as he metes out ever more brutal tortures on the populace, all in the name of God. As Lord Cumberland's maniacal practices reach a fever pitch, and Christian's would-be love interest, Vanessa, ends up as his latest target, Christian is thrown into a crisis of faith, as the perilous edge of violence draws ever closer. The result of an intensely troubled production which saw British writer/director Michael Armstrong (House of the Long Shadows) virtually at war with producer, famed Austrian actor Adrian Hoven (Kiss Me Monster), MARK OF THE DEVIL became an immediate international hit, generating equal parts acclaim and condemnation, with the film being banned in the United Kingdom and promoted in the U.S. by infamous distributor Hallmark Releasing with vomit bags and the slogan "Rated V for Violence!" Featuring the first starring role for future genre icon Udo Kier (Flesh for Frankenstein), the film set a new benchmark for onscreen bloodshed with its graphic and unflinching portrayal of torture and dismemberment, culminating in the much-talked about tongue-ripping scene. Vinegar Syndrome is delighted to present the UHD world premiere of MARK OF THE DEVIL, restored in 4K from the original 35mm camera negative, in this extras-packed edition that's sure to shock and appall moral crusaders everywhere! The Mountain is a surreal and unsettling tour of 1950s America starring Tye Sheridan (Ready Player One) and Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park). Since his mother’s confinement to an institution, Andy (Sheridan) has lived in the shadow of his stoic father. A family acquaintance, Dr. Wallace Fiennes (Goldblum), employs the introverted young man as a photographer to document an asylum tour advocating for his increasingly controversial lobotomy procedure. As the tour progresses and Andy witnesses the doctor’s career and life unravel, he begins to identify with the institutions’ patients. Arriving at a California mountain town, a growing center of the New Age movement, they encounter an unconventional French healer (Denis Lavant, The Lovers on the Bridge) who requests a lobotomy for his own daughter, Susan (Hannah Gross, Mindhunter). The Mountain is another fiercely original exploration of the American dream from visionary director Rick Alverson (Entertainment, The Comedy). In 1960, Polish Holocaust survivor Marek Polsky (David Hayman) was more or less resolved to quietly finishing his days in a rural Colombian farmhouse. After the Israelis captured Eichmann, though, he found himself with a swiftly moved-in next-door neighbor-elderly German Hermann Herzog (Udo Kier)-and Polsky's certitude that the newcomer is actually Adolf Hitler sets him on a seriocomic quest to prove it. Review Thunderstorms and extraordinarily grotesque murders pile up as Argento happily abandons plot mechanics to provide a bravura display of his technical skill. With his sharp eye for the bizarre and for vulgar over-decoration, it's always fascinating to watch; the thrills and spills are so classy and fast that the movie becomes in effect what horror movies seemed like when you were too young to get in to see them. Don't think, just panic. --Scott Meek, Time Out London SUSPIRIA is not just AN Italian horror movie - it is THE Italian horror movie⁖ It is the greatest triumph of a very specific branch of filmmaking, and deserving of a reputation even more grandiose than the one it enjoys. This isn't just a good, unnatural horror movie, it is one of the great works of cinema. --Tim Brayton, Alternate Ending Dario Argento's SUSPIRIA is easily one of the greatest horror movies ever made. It's one of the very few horror movies I can call perfect, and I rarely ever do that⁖ Dario Argento sneaks in such a simplistic premise under such a wonderful and masterful production that combines direction and a brilliant score for one hell of a nightmarish punch⁖ SUSPIRIA is a masterpiece that should be viewed by movie buffs, and film students alike. It' s an absolute standard of the genre. --Felix Vasquez, Cinema Crazed
