Japanese language, English subtitles, high definition, Region A disc. It wasn’t all that long ago that the Katakuris moved out to the sticks with dreams of running a beautiful bed and breakfast along the highway. Unfortunately for them, that highway never came. With their morale at rock bottom, the eccentric family prays to add just one name to the guestbook! But when customers finally start rolling in, they won’t stop keeling over! And instead of going to the cops, the Katakuris find themselves doing a strange song and dance to keep anyone from finding out! Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2004 Gérardmer Film Festival, Takashi Miike’s (Audition, Ichi the Killer) viscerally surreal horror musical returns on Blu-ray—jam packed with a whole chorus of special features! Presented in the original Japanese language with English subtitles!

Description

This first film by the legendary Hideo Gosha (Sword of the Beast) is among the most canonized chambara (sword-fighting) films. An origin-story offshoot of a Japanese television series phenomenon of the same name, Three Outlaw Samurai is a classic in its own right. In it, a wandering, seen-it-all ronin (Tetsuro Tamba) becomes entangled in the dangerous business of two other samurai (Isamu Nagato and Mikijiro Hira), hired to execute a band of peasants who have kidnapped the daughter of a corrupt magistrate. With remarkable storytelling economy and thrilling action scenes, this is an expertly mounted tale of revenge and loyalty.
