Description

From Don Siegel, the legendary director of Madigan, Two Mules for Sister Sara, Dirty Harry, Charley Varrick and The Shootist, comes this first-rate western starring screen greats Henry Fonda (The Ox-Bow Incident), Anne Baxter (Yellow Sky) and Michael Parks (Nightmare Beach). Washed-up, alcoholic vagabond Ben Chamberlain (Fonda in an atypical role) drifts into a godforsaken railhead town looking for a woman named Alma. When that woman winds up dead, Ben finds himself wrongfully accused of murder by the corrupt railroad chief deputy Vince McKay (Parks) and his trigger-happy posse. McKay gives him a horse; some supplies and a one-hour head start into the desert before sending his band of cutthroats after him. Scripted by Dean Riesner (Play Misty for Me) from a story by Reginald Rose (12 Angry Men), Stranger on the Run boasts a strong supporting cast including Dan Duryea (Scarlet Street), Sal Mineo (Rebel Without a Cause), Lloyd Bochner (Point Blank), Michael Burns (TV’s Wagon Train) and Madlyn Rhue (It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World). Special Features: -Brand New HD Master from a 2K Scan of the Interpositive -NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian/Screenwriter Gary Gerani -Broadcast Trailer (HD) -Newly Commissioned Art by Vince Evans

Description

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Norah Drain (Juliet Prowse, G.I. Blues), a Manhattan disco hostess, finds herself the victim of a stalker and obscene phone caller. NYPD Lieutenant Dave Madden (Jan Murray, Fear City) overhears her complaints at the precinct and takes a personal interest in Drain’s case, finding himself drawn not only to Drain but the sordid desires of the Times Square sex district. As Drain begins to question the intentions of Madden, a sullen busboy at her workplace (Sal Mineo, Rebel Without a Cause) reveals himself as her stalker, putting her in a fight for her life on the streets of New York City. Directed by noted television and Broadway producer Joseph Cates and co-written by The Doom Patrol and Guardians of the Galaxy co-creator Arnold Drake, WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR? is a relentlessly tawdry time capsule of mid-60s Times Square, evocatively shot on location, in stark black and white, by Joseph C. Brun (Edge of the City). Peerlessly ahead of its time for 1965, WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR? was censored shortly after its original theatrical release and has since only been available on video in its edited version. Cinématographe is proud to present the world blu-ray and 4K UHD debut of Joseph Cates’s seminal New York City thriller in its completely uncensored theatrical release version, adding back several minutes of never-on-video material, newly restored from original 35mm negative materials. Bonus Features: 1. 2-disc Set: 4K Ultra HD / Region Free Blu-ray 2. New audio commentary with film historians Elizabeth Purchell and KJ Shepherd 3. The Murder of Innocence - a video essay by Chris O'Neill 4. Who Filmed Times Square - a featurette on the New York City locations of Who Killed Teddy Bear? 5. Gallery of archival press clippings 6. English SDH subtitles
