Description
The Business of Fancydancing - DVD - Since their high school graduation, former Spokane Reservation best friends Seymour (Evan Adams, Smoke Signals) and Aristotle (Gene Tagaban) have taken different paths. Both ventured off to college in Seattle, but while Seymour embraced the opportunities of the white world, Aristotle returned home embittered. Sixteen years later, they are brought together following the sudden death of an old childhood buddy. Seymour, now an openly gay poet and unofficial spokesman for Native Americans, is met with resentment on "the rez." At the wake, tensions are heightened, and Aristotle's long festering bitterness is dangerously exposed. Written, directed and featuring poetic works by best-selling author Sherman Alexie (The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian and Smoke Signals), The Business of Fancydancing is a powerful story of growth, death, and the choices that define us all. Run time: 1 hour and 43 minutes Rated: NR

Description
Lionel Rogosin's religion could be dubbed liberation cinematography he made films as a way to fight injustice. In 1957, Rogosin followed his calling to South Africa creating Come Back, Africa - a powerful and moving drama exposing the harsh reality of life under the system apartheid. Shooting secretly under the very noses of the feared South African police, Rogosin, his crew and his cast (including journalists/activists Lewis Nkosi, Bloke Modisane, and Can Themba) risked arrest and deportation. Miriam Makeba, whose electrifying appearance in Come Back, Africa launched a legendary career, found herself banned from her country after she traveled to Venice for the movie's premiere. The scenes shot in the vibrant black ghetto of Sophiatown are precious images of a lost world. Nkosi later said of the film, It is a monument. We were able to show the world what South Africa really was like.

The already troubled marriage of philosophy professor Sara (Seret Scott) and artist Victor (Bill Gunn) doesn't seem to be improving much as they head off to a rented summer home-something he clearly wants more than she does. But Victor's attraction to one of his models (Maritza Rivera), and Sara's burgeoning friendship with the uncle (Duane Jones) of one of her students could make things go from bad to worse, in this acclaimed relationship dramedy. 86 min. Description
Product Description For songwriter Woody Guthrie, his guitar was a machine that "kills fascists." for Lionel Rogosin, the weapon of choice was a movie camera, and his first battle was waged on the streets of New York City. Exploring the underworld of the citys skid row, Rogosin developed his signature style. After months drinking with men he met on the Bowery, Rogosin worked with his buddies to write a screenplay that reflected their lives and then cast them as themselves. This technique of making films "from the inside" allowed Rogosin to film ordinary people caught up in universal problems. His films explored alcoholism, homelessness, racial discrimination, war, labor conflict, and poverty with great compassion and honesty. This collection includes ON THE BOWERY, GOOD TIMES, WONDERFUL TIMES and OUT.

Description
Presented by Martin Scorsese and featuring an operatic score by Nino Rota, ROCCO AND HIS BROTHERS is a timeless story of modernity, class tension, and family drama spun across an epic canvas by director Luchino Visconti. Looking for opportunity, five brothers move north with their mother to Milan, finding fame in the boxing ring and love in the same woman. Famously labeled by Scorsese as "one of the most sumptuous black-and-white pictures," ROCCO lives up to it's praise with it's new 4K restoration, painstakingly worked upon by the Film Foundation and the Cineteca di Bologna. With an all-star cast including Alain Delon, Annie Girardot, Renato Salvatori and Claudia Cardinale, this cinematic tale remains equal parts breathtaking and heartbreaking to behold.

Description
South: Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance Expedition (1919) is the original documentary of the greatest epic in the history of exploration, produced by Shackleton and Frank Hurley. When Shackleton set sail on the Endurance on August 8, 1914, he planned a brave attempt to cross the continent of Antarctica via the South Pole. But within a day’s travel, the Endurance was trapped in unusually heavy pack ice. What followed is one of the most spectacular adventure stories ever—an unbelievable tale of courage and survival. The crew drifted on ice floes for months before landing on the completely deserted Elephant Island. With no chance for rescue, Ernest Shackleton and five of his men made a 850-mile journey in an open boat with only a sextant to guide them across the roughest seas in the world. Made newly relevant with the 2022 discovery of the Endurance at the bottom of the Weddell Sea – this Milestone Films release of South is newly restored in 2K by the BFI National Archive with the original tints and toning and a new orchestral score by Neil Brand performed by Covent Garden Sinfonia, making this Blu-ray release one to cherish. Special Features: -Audio commentary by film historian Luke McKernan (2002) -Audio recordings of Ernest Shackleton -Departure of Shackleton’s British Antarctic Expedition from Lyttelton, New Zealand (1908, 8 minutes) -Antarctic Expedition: Sir George Newnes’ Farewell to Officers and Crew (1 minute) -Shackleton: South Georgia Birds (1920, 13 minutes) -Shackleton’s Boat Journey (1999, 31 minutes, Produced by Harding Dunnett and John Bardell for the James Caird Society) -Southward on the Quest (1922 excerpt, 8 minutes) Top About this item Similar From the Brand Reviews South: Ernest Shackleton and the Endurance Expedition
