Description

Magnum Cop (Poliziotto Senza Paura) is a gritty Italian action film with an eye-opening performance by Joan Collins (Dynasty) as decadent seductress Brigitte. Wally Spada (Maurizio Merli) is an ex-cop making ends meet as a private detective who gets mixed up in an investigation of a missing girl. This leads him to Austria's underworld and a prostitution racket run by a sleazy femme fatale (Collins). Director Stelvio Massi was inspired by Raymond Chandler’s famous detective Philip Marlowe – making Spada a “more human, less violent cop” than the ones Merli was used to playing. So while Magnum Cop has its share of hair-raising action, it’s also a charming character piece that shows Merli’s range as an actor. Special Features: • Audio commentary by film historians Troy Howarth, Nathaniel Thompson, and Eugenio Ercolani • Alternate English audio track

Description

A bounty hunter is hired by a mining town's crippled mayor to find his daughter. Bounty hunter Blade (Maurizio Merli), who uses a tomahawk as a throwing weapon, arrives at the mining town of Suttonville with the outlaw Burt Craven (Donald O'Brien) as his prisoner. His real motive is to kill mining big boss McGowan (Philippe Leroy) who has killed his father. Blade gives up his revenge - because McGowan "is not worth it" - and instead accepts to deliver the ransom for the mine owner's daughter (Sonja Jeannine). However, this mission fails because she turns out to be the lover of her kidnapper, McGowan's foreman Voller (John Steiner), who secretly works for a gang that regularly robs the shipments of silver from the mine. Voller then kills his boss and turns his mining empire into bloody chaos by massacring the mine workers. Blade is beaten up and buried up to his neck and left to be blinded by the sun. However, he survives and returns for a showdown with Voller. Product Description Umberto Lenzi, legendary director of CANNIBAL FEROX, kicked off the Italian police film craze with this hyper-kinetic, ultra-violent, brain-blasting action thriller. Maurizio Meril stars as an Italian DIRTY HARRY, punching and shooting his way through the sleazy drug, sex and crime infested cesspool of mid-'70s Rome, on the trail of a sadistic, machine gun-toting hunchback, played by Tomas Milian (star of THE BIG GUNDOWN). Review One of the most gonzo, over-the-top Euro crime films you'll ever see. --American Cinematheque Containing little idealism and much violence for the sake of violence… director Umberto Lenzi keeps his action, cast and cameras moving along at a fast clip. --Variety The quintessential 'Polizieschi' movie. It has all the ingredients necessary - Alfa Romeo cars, stereotypical bad guys, angry 'beat the system' cops and lashings of over the top violence. --Jonny Redman, LoveLockandLoad
