Description
Japanese soldiers time travel to feudal era. Their lieutenant allies with samurai lord to become Shogun. Both seek power through warfare. G.I. Samurai sees action superstar Sonny Chiba (The Street Fighter) heading the cast in a rip-roaring time-slip action blockbuster in which guns, tanks and helicopters come up against katana-wielding warriors on horseback! During a routine military exercise, modern-day soldiers led by Second Lieutenant Iba (Chiba) find themselves transported back in time four hundred years to war-torn feudal Japan. Facing attack by samurai warriors from rival clans, frictions rapidly emerge among these modern-day soldiers, whisked from a time of peace, freed from the strictures of a higher authority and stranded in one of the bloodiest and most decisive periods in Japan's history. Based on a novel by Ryo Hanmura and directed by Kosei Saito (Ninja Wars), G.I. Samurai's epic battle scenes wowed Japanese audiences upon release in 1979 and are now more awe-inspiring than ever in a new 4K restoration by Kadokawa Pictures. Description
With stylized violence and imaginative supernatural elements, NINJA WARS is a standout entry in early 1980s Japanese genre cinema. Ninja Wars (original title: Iga Ninpōchō) is a dark, supernatural action film set in feudal Japan, blending ninja lore with horror and fantasy elements. The story follows Jotaro, a wandering ninja who becomes entangled in a deadly conflict between rival clans after a brutal massacre wipes out his comrades. As he investigates, he discovers that the violence is tied to a sinister conspiracy involving a demonic sect seeking power through forbidden rituals. This group employs grotesque, otherworldly abilities--blurring the line between human and monster--to eliminate their enemies and dominate the region. Jotaro joins forces with a mysterious female survivor whose own past is steeped in tragedy and vengeance. Together, they confront increasingly bizarre and terrifying foes, each wielding unnatural powers. As the battles escalate, Jotaro must rely not only on his physical skill but also on inner resolve to resist corruption and defeat the dark forces threatening to consume the land. The film is known for its stylized violence, eerie atmosphere, and imaginative (often shocking) supernatural elements, making it a standout entry in early 1980s Japanese genre cinema.
