Description

From legendary director Robert Aldrich (The Killing of Sister George, Ten Seconds to Hell) comes one of his finest and most complex films—a searing saga of murder and mayhem in the 1930s. Starring Kim Darby (True Grit) and Scott Wilson (The Ninth Configuration), this grim fairy tale is lurid, gritty and violent. Barbara (Darby) is a wealthy socialite whose biggest dilemma in life concerns whose party she'll attend next. But when she's kidnapped by a dangerously depraved family of outlaws, Barbara's choices suddenly become far more terrifying. Desperate to escape and determined to survive, she finds herself hopelessly ensnared in a deadly struggle between those who want her dead and those who want something far more horrifying. Based on the novel No Orchids for Miss Blandish and featuring a strong supporting cast that includes Tony Musante (The Mercenary), Robert Lansing (4D Man), Connie Stevens (Susan Slade), Ralph Waite (TV’s The Waltons), Wesley Addy (Kiss Me Deadly) and Matt Clark (White Lightning).

In 1970, John Wayne won an Academy Award. For his larger-than-life performance as the drunken, uncouth and totally fearless one-eyed U.S. Marshall, Rooster Cogburn. The cantankerous Rooster is hired by a headstrong young girl (Kim Darby) to find the man who murdered her father and fled with the family savings. When Cogburn's employer insists on accompanying the old gunfighter, sparks fly. And the situation goes from troubled to disastrous when an inexperienced but enthusiastic Texas Ranger (Glen Campbell) joins the party. Laughter and tears punctuate the wild action in this extraordinary Western which features performances by Robert Duvall and Strother Martin. (English), In 1970, John Wayne won an Academy Award.
