Disc 1 contains Lady Whirlwind (1972); Disc 2 contains Hapkido (1972) — the two films are sold together as this single two-disc product. When director Huang Feng left Shaw Brothers for rival studio Golden Harvest, he launched the career of Angela Mao, a Taiwanese performer fresh out of Beijing opera school who became one of Hong Kong's toughest action stars of the 1970s. In Lady Whirlwind (1972), Mao sets out to avenge her sister's death but ends up fighting a common enemy alongside the very man she wants revenge on. In Hapkido, made the same year, she again faces Japanese thugs, alongside Sammo Hung and Carter Wong as students of the Korean martial art, trained by real-life grandmasters Ji Han-jae and Hwang In-shik. Released in the US as Deep Thrust and Lady Kung Fu, these two restored classics show Mao at her peak — as formidable as Bruce Lee, whose sister she played in Enter the Dragon the following year.
