Disc 1 contains the film in 4K UHD, presented in Dolby Vision HDR. Stanley Kubrick reshaped the historical drama to his own ends in this dazzling adaptation of William Makepeace Thackeray's novel, a pitiless portrait of the aristocracy. In picaresque detail, it chronicles an incorrigible trickster (Ryan O'Neal) whose opportunism carries him from an Irish farm to the battlefields of the Seven Years' War and into the parlors of high society. Recreating the period's decadent surfaces and intricate social codes with pioneering cinematographic techniques and lavish, Academy Award–winning design that evokes eighteenth-century painting, Kubrick delivers a sardonic, devastating portrait of a vanishing world whose opulence conceals the moral vacancy at its heart.
