Format: 3D Blu-ray
Stock: In Stock
Release: October 29, 2019
Description
Nudie-Cuties were popular in grindhouse theaters in the early 1960’s but they were eventually replaced with more explicit fare. 3-D was a natural for this genre with such titillating promises as “A girl in your lap” and “They dance right off the screen into your arms.” For The 3-D Nudie-Cutie Collection the 3-D Film Archive has restored two rare features from this era of sexploitation. The Bellboy and the Playgirls (1962) stars June “The Bosom” Wilkinson and includes new scenes directed by 22-year-old Francis Ford Coppola, including a finale in “The New Depth Perception.” Adam and Six Eves (1962) was filmed with the venerable Natural Vision camera rig in 1962 but was never released in 3-D. We also present two Golden Age 3-D short subjects: Love for Sale (1953) features the gorgeous Bella Starr and Beauty in 3rd Dimension is a newly curated collection of Figure Studies in Kodachrome Stereo from 1951. Review "5-25-77" is his [Patrick Read Johnson’s] loosely autobiographical film about the impact of "Star Wars" on his own life as a teenage geek in love with the movies… Johnson has made one of the most loving odes to geekdom ever. It is simply fantastic. --Jim Emerson, Roger Ebert.com Daley’s tremendously appealing and charming turn as the affable protagonist perpetuates the pleasantly easygoing vibe… Johnson delivers an impressively enthralling stretch detailing Pat’s trip to Hollywood… a heartfelt drama. --Real Film Reviews / realfilm.com

Product Description Nominated for eight Academy Awards®, Francis Ford Coppola’s stunning vision of the heart of darkness in all of us remains a classic and compelling Vietnam War epic. Martin Sheen stars as Army Captain Willard, a troubled man sent on a dangerous and mesmerizing odyssey into Cambodia to assassinate a renegade American colonel named Kurtz (Marlon Brando), who has succumbed to the horrors of war and barricaded himself in a remote outpost. Amazon.com Apocalypse Now / Apocalypse Now: Redux In the tradition of such obsessively driven directors as Erich von Stroheim and Werner Herzog, Francis Ford Coppola approached the production of Apocalypse Now as if it were his own epic mission into the heart of darkness. On location in the storm-ravaged Philippines, he quite literally went mad as the project threatened to devour him in a vortex of creative despair, but from this insanity came one of the greatest films ever made. It began as a John Milius screenplay, transposing Joseph Conrad's classic story "Heart of Darkness" into the horrors of the Vietnam War, following a battle-weary Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) on a secret upriver mission to find and execute the renegade Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando), who has reverted to a state of murderous and mystical insanity. The journey is fraught with danger involving wartime action on epic and intimate scales. One measure of the film's awesome visceral impact is the number of sequences, images, and lines of dialogue that have literally burned themselves into our cinematic consciousness, from the Wagnerian strike of helicopter gunships on a Vietnamese village to the brutal murder of stowaways on a peasant sampan and the unflinching fearlessness of the surfing warrior Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore (Robert Duvall), who speaks lovingly of "the smell of napalm in the morning." Like Herzog's Aguirre: The Wrath of God, this film is the product of genius cast into a pit of hell and emerging, phoenix-like, in triumph. Coppola's obsession (effectively detailed in the riveting documentary Hearts of Darkness, directed by Coppola's wife, Eleanor) informs every scene and every frame, and the result is a film for the ages. --Jeff Shannon

Description
He wears a ratty old cardigan instead of tails, a battered felt hat in place of a topper -- but one glimpse of those agile feet and you know he's Fred Astaire. The great entertainer sang and danced his last musical lead in Finian's Rainbow, director Francis Ford Coppola's exuberant movie of the 1947 Broadway hit. Astaire plays an Irish rogue who plants a stolen crock of leprechaun gold in the soil near Fort Knox to reap what he thinks will be a rich harvest. In tow are his spirited daughter (Petula Clark), a love-struck leprechaun (Tommy Steele) and a bigoted Southern senator (Keenan Wynn) transformed by misbegotten magic. The treasurable Burton Lane/E.Y. Harburg score includes "How Are Things in Glocca Morra?," "Look to the Rainbow," "If This Isn't Love" and "Old Devil Moon." Watching it, you'll be in clover. Four-leaf all the way.
