After starring in a string of classic films like Jailhouse Rock, King Creole, Viva Las Vegas and Clambake, the iconic Elvis Presley changed his acting habit and made this unconventional late-’60s romance his Hollywood swan song. The King takes on a rare dramatic role as the young and handsome Dr. John Carpenter, who is assigned three female medical social workers to assist him at his inner-city clinic—but he doesn’t know that they are really nuns! Mary Tyler Moore (Thoroughly Modern Millie, What’s So Bad About Feeling Good?) is Sister Michelle, one of the nuns who takes off her habit—and takes off with Elvis’ heart! When love blossoms between the sweet, singing and swinging doctor and the demure, devoted nun, Michelle must decide whether to follow her heart or stay true to her vows. In this touching story that addresses social issues still relevant today, Elvis woos his love as only he can with unforgettable musical numbers like “Rubberneckin’,” “Let Us Pray” and “Change of Habit.” The wonderful supporting cast includes Barbara McNair (Stiletto), Ed Asner (The Satan Bug), Ruth McDevitt (TV’s Kolchak: The Night Stalker) and Richard Carlson (The Maze). Special Features: -NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historians Howard S. Berger and Nathaniel Thompson -Theatrical Trailer -Optional English Subtitles

Description

Rock n Roll legend Elvis Presley (Frankie and Johnny) sizzles as a lovelorn million-heir in this riveting and romantic musical romp with eight original Elvis tunes. Vying for the attentions of the lovely Shelley Fabares (Girl Happy, Spinout), Elvis finds himself caught up in a rivalry with playboy Bill Bixby (TV s The Incredible Hulk) against a tuneful background of comedy, romance and speedboat racing. Clambake is pleasing escape entertainment and the wildest party to hit the beach since they invented the beach ball. It's a hip version of The Prince and the Pauper as Elvis relinquishes his oil baron father's fortune and trades identities with a penniless water ski instructor (Will Hutchins, TV s Sugerfoot) to learn about life from the bottom up. Short on cash but long on determination, he repairs a radically designed powerboat in order to win the regatta and the affection of a girl who's determined to marry rich. Gary Merrill (All About Eve) co-stars in this fun-filled comedy musical. Special Features: Audio commentary by Videodrome (Gideon Kennedy, Matt Owensby and John Robinson) -- Opened in 1998, Videodrome is now Atlanta, Georgia's only video rental store Trailers for Clambake and Frankie and Johnny

Through it all, a guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do. That means performing a tune array including the title tune, City By Night, Could I Fall in Love?, Long-Legged Girl and There’s So Much World to See. Trouble was never this cool and this much fun.

Product Description Jailhouse Rock (BD) Amazon.com Elvis Presley's third and best film is this musical romp released in 1957, just as the Big "E" was reaching the peak of his hip-swiveling pre-army success. Filmed in ultra-cool black and white, the movie stars Elvis as a good ol' boy who saves a woman from an assault but kills her attacker, so he's convicted of manslaughter and sent to jail. While doing time he takes up the guitar and becomes a singing sensation, ready for the big time when he's finally released. He becomes a big star but his inflated ego gets him into trouble with his former cellmate and his new girlfriend. Short on plot but heavy on rock & roll, this EP classic features such hit songs as "Treat Me Nice," "Baby, I Don't Care," "Don't Leave Me Now," and, of course, the classic title song, performed in an elaborate jailhouse number that Elvis choreographed himself. This is Elvis in all his big-screen glory, and the movie's upbeat ending made it a huge success during its original release. --Jeff Shannon
