Disc 2 contains Executioners (1993). In this darker, postapocalyptic sequel to The Heroic Trio, Maggie Cheung, Anita Mui, and Michelle Yeoh reunite as the three heroines. After a nuclear attack devastates Hong Kong, a masked madman played by Anthony Wong seizes control of the city's supply of clean water as part of a bid for political power, and the three fighters must put aside their differences and join forces once more to stop him. Directors Johnnie To and Ching Siu-tung push the action toward cartoon extremes while giving the film a grungy, dystopian atmosphere and an antiauthoritarian edge.

Disc 1 contains The Heroic Trio (1993). Director Johnnie To and a lineup of legendary stars gave Hong Kong cinema a homegrown superhero universe of its own in this outrageously entertaining cult favorite. Thief Catcher (Maggie Cheung), Wonder Woman (Anita Mui), and Invisible Girl (Michelle Yeoh) play formidable masked crusaders who must confront their own dark pasts in order to stop an evil, baby-snatching eunuch who is terrorizing the city. Motorcycle stunts, bloodthirsty undead, cannibal infants, and kinetically choreographed wirework fill out this showcase for three of the coolest women warriors ever to appear on screen.

Description

This set contains The Heroic Trio (1993) and Executioners (1993): one 4K UHD disc with both films, and two Blu-rays with the films and special features. Cinema icons Maggie Cheung, Anita Mui, and Michelle Yeoh star in these gloriously unrestrained action films from director Johnnie To and action choreographer Ching Siu-tung. The Heroic Trio and its sequel, Executioners, follow a new kind of justice league: blade-throwing, shotgun-toting, kung fu-fighting heroines who join forces to battle evildoers in a dystopian, noirish city. Mixing spectacular martial-arts action with comic-book lunacy, these beloved superhero movies reinvent the genre in the giddy spirit of Hong Kong cinema at its peak.
