Beautiful Austrian political refugee Johnny Jones (Hedy Lamarr) is about to be deported, leaving the loving arms of a married Manhattan publisher for the waiting arms of the Nazis. Stylishly directed by Clarence Brown, Come Live with Me tempers its sophistication with plenty of charm, compliments of its two iconic stars.

In a departure from his onscreen persona of Latin lover, silent-era sex symbol Rudolph Valentino delivered one of the most nuanced and powerful performances of his career in this epic romance set in 18th-century Russia, directed by Clarence Brown (Flesh and the Devil, Anna Karenina). Valentino stars as Vladimir Dubrovsky, a lieutenant in the Imperial Guard who becomes a fugitive after he rejects the amorous attentions of the Czarina Catherine II (Louise Dresser). Marcus) who has been victimizing the poor and weak. But before he can right the wrongs of the evil Kyrilla Troekouroff, Dubrovsky’s true identity is revealed and he must face the judgement of the spurned Catherine. Description

They first meet in Omaha. They meet again years later at the Swiss border and at the edge of World War II. Clark Gable as smalltime hoofer Harry Van and Norma Shearer as his one-time honey Irene, now passing herself off as a Russian aristocrat and clinging to the arm of a munitions baron, strike sparks in this witty, cogent clash of love and war based on Robert E. Sherwood's Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Idiot's Delight, released in the same year as Gone with the Wind, shows Gable at his rakish, manly, movie-star best. The most memorable scene: Gable's Puttin' on the Ritz, a wise-guy song-and-dance routine that ends with the King leaping gracefully into the arms of a chorus line of peroxide cuties. Lucky girls!

Letty Lynton cemented Joan Crawford's status at MGM as both a stunning beauty & dramatic powerhouse. In this pre-code scorcher, Crawford plays a socialite escaping a toxic lover in Uruguay. When her past threatens her new romance with Robert Montgomery, a shocking poisoning and a bold false alibi propel the scenario in this high-stakes drama. Directed by Clarence Brown, Letty Lynton represents the MGM style at its finest, with Crawford impeccably costumed by the studio's famous designer Adrian.

Description

Joan Crawford stars as a factory girl with two ways out of poverty: brains and beauty. Using her wiles, in no time she's living on Park Avenue, draped in designer gowns, dripping in jewels, and cuddled up with a man who isn't her husband (Clark Gable). It's a scorching love match which mixes themes of greed, ambition, politics, and sex in a world where morals are in short supply. The sizzling chemistry between Gable & Crawford results in an unforgettable pre-code gem.

Description

In this vivid melodrama, Joan Crawford is Sadie McKee, who must choose between love (with Gene Raymond) and money (with Edward Arnold) and eventually gets both (with Franchot Tone). Crawford had an amazing ability to adapt her screen persona with changing times. She was a frenetic flapper in the '20s, a chin-up working girl in the '30s, and a film noir femme fatale in the '40s. Here she is at her Depression-Era peak as Sadie, a maid who sacrifices all for love, suffers like crazy but somehow winds up happy at the end. The leading lady gets excellent support from her three co-stars. Tone (who was soon to become Crawford's second husband)and Raymond are compelling as the handsome young suitors in her life, one good, one a scoundrel. And Edward Arnold is particularly memorable in his sympathetic portrayal of the millionaire drunk Sadie marries. But from rags to riches, from heartbreak to happiness, the film is all Crawford's.
