From Bill Forsyth, the acclaimed director of Gregory’s Girl, Local Hero, Comfort and Joy and Housekeeping, comes this offbeat comedy starring screen legend Burt Reynolds as a thief with a heart of gold. Veteran safecracker Ernie (Reynolds, White Lightning) and his smart-alec apprentice Mike (Casey Siemaszko, Young Guns) are the unlikeliest pair of robbers since Butch Cassidy met The Sundance Kid. Ernie teaches Mike the tools of the trade—from crowbars to nitroglycerine—and together they tackle a series of wacky, yet profitable break-ins. Ernie knows there’s more to being a successful thief than just thieving, there’s investing what you’ve “earned” and keeping a low profile. Yet there are some things Ernie can’t teach Mike, as he discovers when Mike falls in love with a money-hungry woman and goes on a spending spree. But, Mike soon realizes, there are some lessons which only taking time—and doing time—will teach you. Written by indie icon John Sayles (Lone Star), Breaking In is the hilarious and heartfelt buddy-comedy caper that has Reynolds in top, charming form! Special Features: -Brand New 2K Master -NEW Audio Commentary by Director Bill Forsyth, Screenwriter John Sayles and Film Historian/Filmmaker Daniel Kremer -Theatrical Trailer -Optional English Subtitles

Description

Bill Forsyth put Scottish cinema on the map with this delightfully eccentric culture clash comedy. Riffing on popular representations of Scottish life and folklore, Local Hero follows the Texas oil executive Mac (Peter Riegert), who is dispatched by his crackpot boss (Burt Lancaster) to a remote seaside village in Scotland with orders to buy out the town and develop the region for an oil refinery. But as business mixes with pleasure, Mac finds himself enchanted by both the picturesque community and its oddball denizens—and Texas starts to feel awfully far away. Packed with a near nonstop stream of droll one liners and deadpan gags, this enchanting cult hit finds Forsyth surveying the idiosyncrasies of small town life with the satirical verve of a latter day Preston Sturges, arriving at a sly commentary on conservation, corporate greed, and the legacies we leave behind.
