Description
“Tarzan…Jane…Tarzan….Jane”, these are the real words spoken by Johnny Weissmuller making his screen debut as Tarzan, the Ape Man to Maureen O’Sullivan as the lady Jane. And when cheetah made three, the treetop trio won over the whole country. The first of the M-G-M Tarzan adventures, Tarzan, the Ape Man remains the greatest jungle thriller of all time. Heading the cast, Olympic swimming champion Weissmuller bursts with bravery as the loin cloth-sporting, vine- swinging tough but gentle–hearted king of the wilderness and lovely O’ Sullivan exudes charming grace as the young English socialite, who, though at first fearful, eventually forsakes civilization in order to remain in the wild with her primitive and passionate lover. Together the young couple faces a world of barbaric danger: while searching for the “elephant burial ground“ Tarzan is forced to fight a Gorilla to the death! And the famous stampede of wild elements charging in response to their friend’s call is one of the most spectacular sequences ever filmed. Through it all, Tarzan triumphs! The film was so successful in its initial release, that it was followed by five sequels made over the ensuing decade at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. More than 90 years after its initial debut, Weissmuller and O’Sullivan still light up the screen with adventure and romance in this all-time classic.

New warden Woodward Lopeman has other ideas about Pitman. Each man will have the tables turned on him. Academy Award winner* Joseph L. Mankiewicz cleverly lassos a twisting, turning Wild West tale of brawls, chases, shootouts and wry wit, courtesy of a script by David Newman and Robert Benton (Bonnie and Clyde). Kirk Douglas as Pitman and Henry Fonda as Lopeman headline a sterling cast, with Hume Cronyn, Burgess Meredith, Warren Oates and Lee Grant among the solid support. Boisterous yet blistering, lighthearted yet lacerating, There Was a Crooked Man is, throughout all its moods, devilishly entertaining.

Nick and Nora Charles cordially invite you to bring your own alibi to The Thin Man, the jaunty whodunit that made William Powell and Myrna Loy the champagne elite of sleuthing. Bantering in the boudoir, enjoying walks with beloved dog Asta or matching each other highball for highball and clue for clue, they combined screwball romance with mystery. The resulting triumph nabbed four Academy Award nominations (including Best Picture) and spawned five sequels. Credit W.S. "Woody" Van Dyke for recognizing that Powell and Loy were ideal together and for getting the studio's okay by promising to shoot this splendid adaptation of Dashiell Hammett's novel in three weeks. He took 12 days. They didn't call him "One-Take Woody" for nothing.

Outlaws come and go in Nick and Nora's lives. Now it's time to meet the in-laws. The debonair sleuths leave little Nicky Jr. at boarding school, grab Asta and head to Nick's boyhood home of Sycamore Springs. Of course, wherever they go, murder has a way of showing up on the doorstep -- a point proven in this fifth Thin Man. Nick can show off his gumshoe talents for his parents (Harry Davenport and Lucile Watson) when an artist is killed. And he'll do it without customary liquid inspirations because Nick (William Powell) is on the wagon. He's also on his game. As is Nora (Myrna Loy), wrestling a folding lawn chair, tailing a presumed suspect through town, igniting a pool-hall rumble and racking wise as good as she gets. Make yourself at home, whodunit fans.

The Third Man has been beautifully restored in 4K for the first time, showcasing the genius of this celebrated British noir, voted the ‘The greatest British film of all time’ by a British Film Institute poll. Holly Martins (Joseph Cotton, Citizen Kane ), a naïve writer of pulp westerns, arrives in Vienna to meet his old friend Harry Lime (the incomparable Orson Welles) nut finds that Lime has apparently been killed in a suspicious accident. Martins, too curious for his own good, hears contradictory stories about the circumstances of Limes death and as witnesses disappear he finds himself chased by unknown assailants. Complicating matters are the sardonic Major Calloway (Trevor Howard, Brief Encounter), head of the British forces, and Lime’s stage actress mistress, Anna Schmidt (Alida Valli). Will Martin’s curiosity lead him to discover things about his old friend that he’d rather not know? Brilliantly scripted by Graham Greene and set to Anton Karas’ evocative zither score, this justly celebrated classic is further enhanced by Robert Krasker’s Academy Award winning cinematography and Orson Welles in one of his most iconic screen roles. Description
In a frozen forest, a solitary Drifter follows a ghostly Old Man from a rocking chair to a ruined hotel, lured by silence and eerie self-portraits. In the dead of a bitter winter, a solitary Drifter (Alf Lamers) trudges through a silent forest, fleeing the wreckage of his past life. On his back rests a rucksack adorned with pans and cans that click and clang with every step, a sharp metallic rhythm echoing in the white void. As the storm intensifies and daylight fades, he encounters an impossibility: an Old Man (Mario Lucente), sitting in a rocking chair half-buried in the snow. The Old Man is wrapped in a heavy, archaic WWII soldier's coat; he does not shiver, and no white breath escapes his lips in the freezing air. In his lap, he clutches a bundle of disturbing charcoal sketches--self-portraits showing his own face transitioning from weary human to skeletal decay. Without speaking, the Old Man rises and beckons the Drifter to follow, leading him with unnerving steadiness toward a dilapidated, vine-strangled hotel hidden in the trees. Inside the "frozen corpse of a building," the spectral guide leads the Drifter into the lobby and suddenly vanishes near a dark corner. Confused and freezing, the Drifter notices a section of the wall that has been hastily concealed with rotting planks. Driven by a morbid instinct, he pries the wood loose, revealing a hidden, airless crawlspace. Inside sits the rocking chair. Slumped within it is a skeleton, draped in the tattered, dust-covered remains of the same WWII coat. In the skeleton's bony lap rests the actual bundle of drawings. The Drifter shines his light on them, realizing the truth: the Old Man had walled himself in years ago. The sketches were his final diary--frantic, charcoal self-portraits drawn in the dark, documenting his own starvation and death until the final page, which depicts only a screaming skull. Release: August 11, 2026
Description
No screen team was more triumphant in the Golden Age of kung fu cinema than the iron triangle of director Chang Cheh and his protégés David Chiang and Ti Lung. This box set comprises 12 classic martial arts films from the famous Shaw Brothers' library. Many of these films are debuting for the first time on Blu-ray. Get ready for some exciting thrills and chills as our iconic heroes square off against abominable villains in a duel to the death! Have Sword, Will Travel: Internationally acclaimed director Chang Cheh teams David Chiang and Ti Lung for the second time in the classic heroic bloodshed epic Have Sword, Will Travel, its title inspired by the lone gunman Hollywood hit TV show Have Gun—Will Travel. Ti Lung is the armor of an "armored van" taking silver to the capital. Along the way, a mysterious knight (David Chiang) stalks him. Although he appears to be the robber, his intentions prove to be far more mysterious. The Heroic Ones: No screen team was more triumphant in the Golden Age of kung fu cinema than the iron triangle of director Chang Cheh and his protégés David Chiang and Ti Lung. This is their quintessential historical epic, set during the waning years of the Tang Dynasty. It's literally brother against brother as David Chiang and Ti Lung display their remarkable martial arts prowess—battling insiders and outsiders in a duel to the death for the fate of China. Vengeance!: David Chiang plays a psychotic man out to avenge the death of his older brother (Ti Lung) in this tale of retribution and paying the ultimate price. The action by acclaimed choreographers Tang Chia and Yuen Cheung-yan (The Grandmaster, The Matrix Reloaded) is just as psychotic. Chang Cheh won Best Director and David Chiang's haunting performance earned him the Best Actor Award at the 1970 Asian Film Festival. The Anonymous Heroes: Director Chang Cheh and his stars Ti Lung and David Chiang were known as the iron triangle for their many successful films together. But perhaps they should have been known as the iron rectangle because of the invaluable contributions of action choreographer Lau Kar-leung. This post-Chinese Revolution adventure of rebels battling warlords is a prime example of the quartet's remarkable skills behind and in front of the camera. Their teamwork made this a 1971 top-ten hit. The Deadly Duo: It's the Sung Dynasty versus the Chin invaders as the iron triangle truly hit their stride with this crowd-pleasing kung fu epic. When a handsome prince is taken captive and guarded by a martial arts master, it's up to two powerful patriots to fight overwhelming odds. From the first fascinating minute to the final desperate battle—culminating in an unforgettably evocative conclusion—this duo is dynamic as well as deadly. Duel of Fists: Another triumph for the iron triangle, not to mention for action choreographer Liu Chia-liang as well. David Chiang is a Chinese boxer who travels to Bangkok in search of his lost brother, who may or may not be the Thai boxer played by Ti Lung. This kung fu/Thai boxing combo was one of the megahits of 1971, second only to Bruce Lee's The Big Boss. The Duel: In the days before Bruce Lee became a superstar, the greatest heroes in Hong Kong cinema were the majestic Ti Lung and the charismatic David Chiang. The year after they exploded into superstardom in Chang Cheh's landmark teen rebellion action film, Vengeance!, they returned in this mano-a-mano classic as an adopted son struggling with familial fears and a streetwise knight-errant named "Rambler." The two distrust each other until they survive a trial by fire…and fists. The Angry Guest: When a vengeful Japanese gangster has our heroes' mother murdered and one of their girlfriends kidnapped, it's terror in Tokyo and horror in Hong Kong in this renowned sequel to Duel of Fists (featuring director Chang Cheh himself in a rare on-screen appearance as a triad boss!). The esteemed Yasuaki Kurata, the future co-star of Jet Li's Fist of Legend, adds to the fight-filled fun in a film filled with international favorites. All Men Are Brothers: This is the long-awaited sequel to the martial arts blockbuster The Water Margin. Finally, its many international fans can see this action-packed follow-up, based on one of China's most enduring 14th-century novels. Also known as Seven Soldiers of Kung Fu and 108 Heroes, it is truly an epic by any name, featuring a cast of perennial kung fu favorites, and no less than four action choreographers. The Blood Brothers: Set in the waning years of the Ching Dynasty, this dramatic, tragic, romantic, and blood-soaked martial arts tale of betrayal and revenge explores one of the most sensational scandals in Chinese history…and marked the true ascension of its director and actors to superstar status. In fact, Ti Lung won Golden Horse Awards of Outstanding Performance for his challenging role of a jealous provincial governor who kills his friend in order to steal the man's wife. The Savage 5: The heroes are savage because the villains are brutal, cruel, and vicious. At first, a gang just wants the village locksmith to open a stolen safe, but it soon escalates into torment. Though reminiscent of The Seven Samurai, The Savage 5 distinguishes itself well as the director and his revered action choreographers, Liu Chia-liang and Tang Chia, design each of its many struggles with gritty depravity and desperate power. The result is an especially realistic, even grueling, exercise in white-knuckle suspense. 7 Man Army: In 1933, 20,000 Japanese soldiers and 50 tanks invaded the Pa Tou Lou Tzu, a strategic key point of the Great Wall. With only seven men stationed in defense, these heroes took on the entire army for five days before succumbing. Director Chang Cheh recreated this epic battle with a stellar cast, including Ti Lung, David Chiang, Alexander Fu Sheng, and Chen Kuan-tai, as a celluloid tribute to these nameless souls.
Bonus Content: Disc 1 - Have Sword, Will Travel: Audio Commentary with David West, Critic and Author of Chasing Dragons: An Introduction to the Martial Arts Film Original Theatrical Trailer Celestial Trailer Disc 2 - The Heroic Ones: Sanguine and Guile—Filmmaker and Academic Gilbert Po Offers An On-Camera Discussion of The Bloody Brilliance of Director Chang Cheh Celestial Trailer Disc 3 - Vengeance!: Audio Commentary by David West, Critic and Author of Chasing Dragons: An Introduction To The Martial Arts Film Retribution Shaw-Style—Luke White, Author of Legacies of The Drunken Master: Politics of the Body In Hong Kong Kung Fu Comedy Films Provides An Insightful Look at The Politics And Plasma-Spillage of Vengeance Original Theatrical Trailer Disc 4 - The Anonymous Heroes: Audio Commentary with James Mudge, Veteran Hong Kong Film Critic at easternKicks Original Theatrical Trailer Celestial Trailer Disc 5 - The Deadly Duo: Audio Commentary with James Mudge, Veteran Hong Kong Film Critic at easternKicks Original Theatrical Trailer German Theatrical Trailer Celestial Trailer Disc 6 - Duel of Fists: Audio Commentary with Veteran Film Critic Ian Jane of Rock!
Legendary Hungarian animator Marcell Jankovics' kaleidoscopic masterwork following the endless battle between Adam, Eve and Lucifer through history. THE TRAGEDY OF MAN (AZ EMBER TRAGÉDIÁJA), 2011, Mozinet, 160 min. An incredible 23 years in the making, THE TRAGEDY OF MAN is the legendary Hungarian animator Marcell Jankovics's (SON OF THE WHITE MARE) sprawling, kaleidoscopic masterwork: a seemingly-endless animated scroll of gorgon-like demons, cave paintings that spring to life, barbarian warriors, bejeweled pharaohs, knights and martyrs and prophets bleeding together -- one brutal age dissolving into another and another, all of human history passing like pages in a child's flipbook. Adapted from the dramatic poem by 19th century author Imre Madách that's often compared to Goethe's Faust and Milton's Paradise Lost, THE TRAGEDY OF MAN is no ordinary cartoon: it's one of the most visually stunning and wildly ambitious animated epics ever made (and then some). Out of the galactic void at the beginning of the story emerges Lucifer the Devil, the Great Winged Bat, Anubis, the antagonist who adopts many faces and forms as it guides and manipulates the characters of Adam and Eve throughout history, searching for the purpose of human existence -- if there is one. Broken into 15 different episodes (the segments were produced one at a time by Jankovics as he cobbled together funding), each section has a different visual style, incorporating a mindblowing tapestry of world art, cultures, symbols, and rituals. In ancient Egypt, the bodies of slaves become the literal building blocks of the pyramids - in ancient Greece, the background shatters like broken pottery - in Rome, mosaics of gladiators come to life, slashing at each other - in the Middle Ages, arguing zealots are transformed into Orthodox churches, clashing against one another as they crumble. The sum total of Jankovics's cosmic vision of human "progress" is utterly surreal, psychedelic, operatic and Wagnerian: a breathtaking Hieronymus Bosch-like triptych of Hell on Earth, with brief glimpses of Grace and Love which may offer hope for the future.
