Ba by moon (babe mo on) noun: is the unique vacation you take right before your first child is born. Taking time to get away from the daily grind, as a couple, has an almost therapeutic effect and this is what reality-star Trace McEvans is counting on. He takes his pregnant wife, Hanna, on a luxurious babymoon to the beautiful country of Cartegentina in an attempt to impress upon her his seriousness in becoming a good father. When Trace and Hanna arrive, there are hints that not everything is going well with the relationship, as well as in the country. Hollywood-types frequent the same vacation spots, and Trace happens upon producer Fabrice. Insecure about providing for his growing family, Trace's schmoozing upsets Hanna. The resulting argument spurs Trace into a group of rebels who kidnap him, and it is up to Hanna to save her husband amidst a community of colorful characters that include, disorganized rebels, a people-pleasing Sheriff, and overzealous Greepeace activists.

From novel (by Edna Ferber) to Broadway smash (by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II) to three film versions (1929, 1936, 1951) to stage revivals. Like Ol' Man River, Show Boat just keeps rollin' along. Produced by Arthur Freed and directed by George Sidney, this 1951 version of the saga of riverboat lives and loves has glorious stars (Kathryn Grayson, Ava Gardner, Howard Keel, Marge and Gower Champion) in Technicolor radiance, a made-from-scratch 170-foot paddle wheeler, timeless songs and an equally timeless outcry against racial bigotry. "This was music that would outlast Kern's day and mine," Ferber said in recalling her first reaction to hearing "Ol' Man River." She was right as rain.

Once upon a time, in a faraway swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek whose precious solitude is suddenly shattered by an invasion of annoying fairy tale characters. Product Description The greatest fairy tale never told comes to life as never before in Shrek The Musical, the Tony Award®-winning Broadway musical based on the smash-hit movie! Featuring a fantastic score of 17 all-new songs, along with unforgettable characters and outrageous humor, Shrek The Musical is ogre-sized fun for the whole family! Bonus Content: Shrek the Musical Songbook with Sing-Along From Swamp to Stage: The Making of Shrek The Musical Sneak Peek World of DreamWorks Animation Amazon.com The trend of turning movies into musicals has left us with some theatrical catastrophes, but the big surprise is that Shrek the Musical isn't one of them. In fact, it's pretty entertaining, or at least this filmed version of the original Broadway production is. The script sticks close to the source material: against his will, a foul-tempered ogre named Shrek goes on a quest to rescue a princess--but the princess turns out to have a secret that changes the fairy-tale ending into, well, a different fairy-tale ending. Shrek's sidekick Donkey (played here by Daniel Breaker, doing an imitation of Eddie Murphy that succeeds through sheer exuberance) frolics with zest. The supporting cast of fairy-tale characters (ranging from Pinocchio to the Three Bears to the Gingerbread Man) have slightly expanded roles (and songs to sing). Lord Farquaad (Christopher Sieber) minces and camps enthusiastically. But the real standout is Sutton Foster (star of the ballet sitcom Bunheads) as Princess Fiona. When she's on the stage, you forget all about the original movie--Foster's Fiona is like a brand-new character dropped into a movie you've seen a dozen times, a spunky goofball who just happens to fall in love with a surly ogre. In fact, her scenes with Brian d'Arcy James as Shrek bring out the best in him as well; all at once he stops trying to channel a softer side of Mike Myers and just becomes a guy who's losing his heart. Something genuinely sweet fizzes and pops when they're together. The expensive-looking special effects were probably more impressive in the theater and you won't remember any of the songs when the show is over, but whenever Foster takes center stage, Shrek the Musical truly sings. --Bret Fetzer

Aspiring diva Prudence Budell (Kathryn Grayson) knew what she wanted in a singing partner and she found it on the street! Mario Lanza, already a recording sensation in 1949, made his screen debut in this glowing box-office success. As singing truck driver Johnny Donnetti, the broad-shouldered tenor proved he could handle lines with ease and warmth. And he amply showcased what everyone already knew - he could belt out a song (highlights include Donizetti's Una Furtiva Lagrima and Verdi's Celeste Aida). Grayson, who had a lifelong ambition to perform on the operatic stage, graced Verdi's Caro Nome with her bright coloratura. And, in his final movie, Jose Iturbi teamed with his sister for Chopin's stirring Revolutionary Etude.

You'd think chilled borscht pulses in her veins. She's Ninotchka Yoshenka, a lovely yet severe Soviet envoy sent to Paris to rescue wayward comrades from the perils of champagne and capitalism. But there may be a thaw in Ninotchka's Cold War. She meets Steve Canfield, a smoothly brash American who won't take "nyet" for an answer. Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse recapture the magic of their The Band wagon pairing in this musical based on the same-titled 1955 Broadway hit and on the famed 1939 Greta Garbo comedy Ninotchka. Set to witty Cole Porter tunes, spiked with laughs and featuring the two leads dancing the Eugene Loring-Hermes Pan choreography into timeless emotion, Silk Stockings shows why elegance and fun never go out of style.

In one of his first-ever roles, a young Jack Nicholson stars as Lt. Andre Duvalier, a soldier in Napoleon's army in 19th century France, separated from his regiment. He awakens on a beach to the sight of a strange woman who leads him to the gothic, towering castle that serves as home to eerie Baron Von Leppe (Boris Karloff). But, as Duvalier soon discovers, nothing is what it seems in this ghastly, haunted mansion of death! This underground favorite was made in classic Roger Cormanfashion, making the most of his resources to bring yet another film to life on a minimal budget for his producers at American International Pictures. Short on time himself (there were more movies to be made!), Corman left it to a few of the aspiring directors within his crew (among them, Jack Hill, a young Francis Coppola, and even Jack Nicholson taking a turn behind the camera for a few scenes) to help see the film to completion. The Terror would go on to become a drive-in favorite and late-night TV staple, also appearing under the titles the Terror, Lady of the Shadows and the Castle of Terror.

There's an unusual harvest at Falbury Farm: beans, hay show tunes. It's a bumper crop, too, with Judy Garland and Gene Kelly leading all the hoofing, singing and sparking. In her final MGM musical, Garland plays Jane Falbury, a farm owner more than a bit riled when her aspiring-actress sister (Gloria De Haven) shows up with a theatrical troupe that wants to stage a musical in the family's barn. Any guess who becomes the show's sudden star after its lead runs off with a Broadway actor? Highlights include Kelly's shuffle-and-squeak "You, Wonderful You" dance solo making use of loose boards and newspaper on the floor, tuxedo-topped Garland's leggy, joyous "Get Happy" and a Kelly/Phil Silvers country-bumpkin bit of "Heavenly Music" backed by woofing canines. After a show like this, how're you gonna keep these kids down on the farm?

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. A fledgling film crew, led by the lovable, yet blind, director Larry Benjamin, is hard at work making - or at least trying to make - Benjamin’s latest and most ridiculous movie. But problems with a difficult cast, an inexperienced and distracted crew, special effects that don’t quite work, and more are soon upended when members of the production team begin to be murdered in increasingly strange and convoluted ways. As the rickety production grinds to a halt, and tensions and distrust flare, the mystery assailant continues to strike. Will Larry and his ragtag team of creative misfits be able to band together and unmask the monstrous force hellbent on killing off the movie's cast and crew before everyone left is reduced to piles of bloody pulp? Acclaimed filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman’s (The Toxic Avenger) twisted take on a meta-movie, TERROR FIRMER is a splatter-fueled shock-fest-cum-murder-mystery which pushes the concept of bad taste to its wildest and most creative extremes, as only Troma can do.
