Description
Over a decade after redefining the thriller with The Third Man, director Carol Reed returned to the genre with The Running Man. Reuniting with that film’s cinematographer Robert Krasker (BAFTA-nominated for his work here), Reed goes in the opposite direction visually, framing the twisty plot in sun-kissed widescreen color. Rex Black (Laurence Harvey, Walk On The Wild Side) has successfully faked his death in a plane crash and escaped to sunny Málaga under a new identity, waiting for his wife Stella (Lee Remick, Anatomy Of A Murder) to arrive with £50,000 of life insurance money. It’s the start of a blissful, trouble-free new life for the couple – until Stephen (Alan Bates, Gosford Park), the insurance agent in charge of investigating Rex’s death, suddenly arrives in town. Is he just holidaying in Spain, as he claims, or is he on assignment to foil Rex’s scheme? Adapted by John Mortimer (later the creator of Rumpole of the Bailey) from the novel The Ballad of the Running Man by Shelley Smith, this underappreciated entry in Reed’s celebrated oeuvre makes its worldwide Blu-ray premiere, complete with insightful new bonus features. SPECIAL EDITION CONTENTS 2K restoration of the film by Sony Pictures High Definition (1080p) Blu-Ray presentation Original uncompressed mono audio Isolated music and effects track Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing Audio commentary by Peter William Evans, author of British Film-Makers: Carol Reed On The Trail Of The Running Man, all-new featurette with crew members such as script supervisor Angela Allen and assistant director Kits Browning Lee Remick at the National Film Theatre, an audio-only recording of the actor's appearance at the NFT in 1970 Image gallery Reversible sleeve featuring original artwork FIRST PRESSING ONLY: Illustrated collector’s booklet featuring new writing on the film by Barry Forshaw

Description
When the search engine he designs answers "yes" to the question "is the government of the United States evil?", a brilliant computer programmer is arrested and held in isolation. Desperate, but keenly aware of the answer's potential effect on the public, the programmer strikes a deal with his interrogators, agreeing to re-design the software in exchange for his freedom. As they search to understand why the program answered an ethical question and try to find a way to change its response, the faith and patience of both the programmer and his captors are put to the test. Suspenseful and darkly comic, S.E.R.P. is a film about coercion, innovation, and whether it is possible to do something good in the service of something evil.

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. Trelkovsky, freshly arrived in Paris, is in desperate need of a place to live. After inquiring at a large apartment complex run by the brooding Monsieur Zy, he’s offered the room of Simone Choule, a resident who recently attempted suicide by throwing herself out of the window. Undeterred by this macabre event, Trelkovsky is happy to move in. Shortly thereafter, he meets Stella, Simone's friend, and does his best to comfort and befriend her. Quickly integrating into Stella’s bohemian social scene, Trelkovsky hopes that his life is finally turning a corner; that is, until his new neighbors begin acting strangely, making wild accusations against him, and displaying increasingly sinister and violent behaviors. As the weeks go on, Trelkovsky begins to suspect that something is very wrong in the stuffy old building and that Simone’s fatal plunge might not have been her own doing… From maverick director Roman Polanski (Chinatown, Rosemary’s Baby) comes one of the most unusual and unsettling studio thrillers of the 1970s: THE TENANT. Adapted from Roland Topor’s cult novel, Polanski casts himself in the lead, offering a uniquely demented and outrageously funny performance, and is supported by Melvyn Douglas (The Changeling), Shelly Winters (Night of the Hunter, Lolita), and Isabelle Adjani (Possession). Featuring cinematography by two-time Oscar® winner Sven Nykvist (Cries and Whispers) along with an original score by acclaimed composer Philippe Sarde (La Grande Bouffe), Vinegar Syndrome is thrilled to present the 4K UHD debut of THE TENANT, newly and exclusively restored in 4K from its original camera negative and featuring a wide array of new and archival extras including an expanded interview with Polanski himself. Bonus Features: 1. 2-disc Set: 4K Ultra HD (High Bitrate UHD100) / Region A Blu-ray 2. 4K UHD presented in Dolby Vision High-Dynamic-Range 3. Newly scanned & restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative 4. Presented in its original English language mono soundtrack 5. Originally released as Hollow Triumph, this top-notch film noir suspense thriller gave actor Paul Henreid (Casablanca) a chance to trade in his romantic image for not one, but two sinister performances. After a botched hit on a casino, gambler John Muller (Henreid) has nowhere to run and with a band of killers hired by a rival mobster on his trail, he s mistaken for the psychiatrist Dr. Bartok, his dead ringer. He decides to kill Bartok and impersonate him, but it s not long before the doctor s beautiful secretary (Joan Bennett, The Woman in the Window, Scarlet Street) is on to him and Muller discovers the doctor had a few of his skeletons in the closet. Written by film noir veteran Daniel Fuchs (Criss Cross, Panic in the Streets), beautifully shot by the great John Alton (He Walked by Night) and wonderfully directed by Steve Sekely (The Day of the Triffids). A box-office hit (despite being banned in three states), Scarlet Street is one of legendary director Fritz Lang’s (M, Metropolis) finest American films. When middle-aged milquetoast Chris Cross (Edward G. Robinson, The Stranger) rescues street-walking bad girl Kitty (Joan Bennett, The Woman in the Window) from the rain-slicked gutters of an eerily artificial back-lot Greenwich Village, he plunges into a whirlpool of lust, larceny and revenge. As Chris’ obsession with the irresistibly vulgar Kitty grows, the meek cashier is seduced, corrupted, humiliated and transformed into an avenging monster before implacable fate and perverse justice triumph in the most satisfyingly downbeat denouement in Hollywood history. Dan Duryea (Larceny), as Kitty’s pimp boyfriend, skillfully molds “a vicious and serpentine creature out of a cheap, chiseling tin horn” (The New York Times). Packed with hairpin plot twists and “bristling with fine directorial touches and expert acting” (Time), Scarlet Street is a dark gem of film noir. Description
Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. Before becoming known for their over-the-top action spectacles, Cannon Films dabbled in the early 80s slasher craze, producing a handful of original slice n' dice classics, two of which are presented here on 4K UHD for the first time, from Vinegar Syndrome! Pieter Fales is a renowned psychiatrist who is unable to reconcile his relationship with his teenage daughter, Alison. Julie, one of Pieter's patients, is a successful advice columnist in the midst of a messy divorce, who has also started receiving threatening letters. When a black clad, scissors wielding killer begins murdering people in Julie's life, she begins to suspect that her unknown writer and this mystery assailant might be one and the same... Taking strong stylistic cues from the giallo genre, director David Paulsen's (Savage Weekend) SCHIZOID, is a delirious whodunit headlined by cult film superstar, Klaus Kinski (Nosferatu the Vampyre), alongside Donna Wilkes (Angel), Marianna Hill (Messiah of Evil), and an early appearance from Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), all amplified with a throbbing electronic score by Craig Huxley and presented here from a stunning new 4K restoration! When Susan was a little girl, she rejected the Valentine of a lovestruck classmate. Decades later, she's come to the hospital for a routine medical examination. But when her x-rays seem to show something unusual, Susan finds herself trapped in a bizarre medical nightmare, made all the worse as her vengeful childhood valentine, disguised among the hospital staff, begins murdering everyone in his path as a means of proving his undying 'romantic' obsession... With its exceptionally colorful cinematography by Nicholas Josef von Sternberg (Slaughterhouse Rock) and otherworldly sense of surrealism, trailblazing Israeli filmmaker Boaz Davidson's (The Last American Virgin) sole foray into horror cinema, X-RAY (aka Hospital Massacre) is a slasher like no other and has been freshly restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative, allowing its one-of-a-kind weirdness to be experienced as never before. Bonus Features: 1. 3-disc Set: 2 4K Ultra HDs and 1 Region A Blu-ray 2. 4K UHDs presented in High-Dynamic-Range 3. Newly scanned & restored in 4K from their 35mm original camera negatives 4. "Shooting by March" - a brand new interview with Schizoid writer/director David Paulsen 5. "Hide the Scissors" - a brand new interview with Schizoid actress Donna Wilkes 6. "Blood in the Jacuzzi" - a brand new interview with Schizoid makeup artist Erica Ueland 7. "A Wellesley Graduate" - a brand new interview with Schizoid actress Flo Lawrence 8. "Ultra Violet Vengeance: The Talent & Technicians of X-Ray" - a brand new making-of documentary featuring interviews with the cast and crew of X-Ray 9. "Bad Medicine" - an archival interview with X-Ray director Boaz Davidson 10. Original theatrical trailer for Schizoid 11. Inside cover artwork 12. English SDH subtitles
