With the five films that make up his Small Axe anthology (Mangrove; Lovers Rock; Red, White and Blue; Alex Wheatle; and Education), director Steve McQueen offers a richly evocative panorama of West Indian life in London from the 1960s through the ’80s—a time defined for the community by the terror of police violence, the empowering awakening of political consciousness, and the ecstatic escape of a vibrant reggae scene. Ranging in tone from the tenderly impressionistic to the devastatingly clear-eyed, these powerfully performed portraits of Black resistance, joy, creativity, and collective action—all sumptuously shot by Shabier Kirchner—form a revolutionary counterhistory of mid-twentieth-century Britain at a transformational moment. The fourth solo album from prolific songwriter, four-time Grammy-nominated artist, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Steven Wilson. Hand. Cannot Erase. is a dynamic 11-song conceptual set, bringing together diverse aspects of his expansive sonic history. Recorded in September 2014 at AIR Studios London, Hand. Cannot. Erase. features the guitar-driven power, infectious melodies, and progressive sensibility of Wilson s sprawling body of work. Wilson describes the collection as inspired by a news story, of a woman who died in her apartment and went undiscovered for three years. The basic concept of the record it's about a woman growing up, who goes to live in the city, very isolated, and she disappears one day and no one notices. Now, your initial reaction when you hear a story like that is, 'Ah, little old bag lady that no one notices; no one cares about.' But she was young; she was popular; she was attractive; she had many friends; she had family, but for whatever reason, nobody missed her for three years.; The dramatic theme of Hand. Cannot. Erase. is punctuated with moments of rhythmic urgency, somber introspection, and soaring beauty. Blu-Ray in hi resolution stereo & 5.1 audio (96/24 5.1 LPCM & DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1). Also includes download codes for MP3 and FLAC versions of the songs. As Rommel’s Afrika Korps sweeps toward Egypt and the Suez Canal in September, 1942, Major Craig (Hudson) suggests that the Desert Fox can be stopped with a daring raid on his fuel bunkers at Tobruk. Colonel Harker (Nigel Green, The Ipcress File) then recruits Craig to guide a team posing as POWs, “guarded” by Captain Bergman (Peppard) and a group of German Jews serving with the British, to their target. Written by Leo Gordon, who also plays Sgt. Krug, Tobruk is highlighted by a spectacular explosive finale in the tradition of The Guns of Navarone and Where Eagles Dare. Special Features: -NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historians Steve Mitchell and Steven Jay Rubin -Optional English Subtitles -Dual-Layered BD50 Disc -Theatrical Trailer
