Description
Product Description A symbologist is caught in a 2000-year-old web of secrecy and uncovers the truth about The Holy Grail -- a truth that could shatter the very foundations of Western Civilization. Amazon.com Critics and controversy aside, The Da Vinci Code is a verifiable blockbuster. Combine the film's huge worldwide box-office take with over 100 million copies of Dan Brown's book sold, and The Da Vinci Code has clearly made the leap from pop-culture hit to a certifiable franchise. The leap for any story making the move from book to big screen, however, is always more perilous. In the case of The Da Vinci Code, the plot is concocted of such a preposterous formula of elements that you wouldn’t envy screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, the man tasked with making this story filmable. The script follows Dan Brown’s book as closely as possible while incorporating a few needed changes, including a better ending. And if you’re like most of the world, by now you’ve read the book and know how it goes: while lecturing in Paris, noted Harvard Professor of Symbology Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is summoned to the Louvre by French police to help decipher a bizarre series of clues left at the scene of the murder of the chief curator. Enter Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), gifted cryptologist. Neveu and Langdon team up to solve the mystery, and from there the story is propelled across Europe, ballooning into a modern-day mini-quest for the Holy Grail, where secret societies are discovered, codes are broken, and murderous albino monks are thwarted… oh, and alternative theories about the life of Christ and the beginnings of Christianity are presented too, of course. It’s not the typical formula for a stock Hollywood thriller. In fact, taken solely as a mystery, the movie almost works--despite some gaping holes--mostly just because it keeps moving. Brown’s greatest trick was to have the entire story take place in one day, so the action is forced to keep moving, despite some necessary pauses for exposition. As a screen couple, Hanks and Tautou are just fine together but not exactly memorable; meanwhile Sir Ian McKellen’s scenery-chewing as pivotal character Sir Leigh Teabing is just what the film needed to keep it from taking itself too seriously. The whole thing is like a good roller-coaster ride: try not to think too much about it--just sit back and enjoy the trip. --Daniel Vancini Stills from The Da Vinci Code (click for larger image)

Description
From cinema giant Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon) and the classic novella by Henry James (The Turn of the Screw), Daisy Miller stars the sensational Cybill Shepherd (Taxi Driver) as the free-spirited young American living abroad in Europe with her daffy mother and bratty kid brother. A woman who does as she pleases yet who seldom pleases anybody but herself, Daisy is very liberated and very much ahead of her time as her behavior scandalizes the Victorian high society of 1878. With sumptuous cinematography, Oscar-nominated costumes and a streak of delightfully acerbic humor, Bogdanovich’s adaptation is “one of the few great films based on a great book” (Richard Brody). Co-starring Bogdanovich favorites Barry Brown (The Great Northfield Minnesota Raid), Mildred Natwick (Barefoot in the Park), Eileen Brennan (The Sting) and Cloris Leachman (Young Frankenstein). Special Features: • Brand New HD Master – From a 4K Scan of the 35mm Original Camera Negative • Remembering Daisy Miller: NEW Interview with Star Cybill Shepherd (10:14) • NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian and Critic Peter Tonguette • Audio Commentary by Director Peter Bogdanovich • Introduction by Director Peter Bogdanovich (12:45) • Theatrical Trailer • Optional English Subtitles

Description
The suave, psychedelic-era thief called Diabolik (John Phillip Law, Barbarella, Death Rides a Horse) can't get enough of life's good or glittery things. Not when there are currency shipments to steal from under the noses of snooty government officials. And priceless jewels to lift from the boudoirs of the super-rich. The elusive scoundrel finds plenty of ways to live up to his name in this tongue-in-cheek, live-action caper inspired by Europe's popular Diabolik comics. He clambers up walls, zaps a press conference with Exhilaration Gas, smacks a confession out of a crime lord while freefalling with him from an airplane, and pulls off the heist of a twenty-ton gold ingot. Impossible? No, diabolical Danger: Diabolik, to be exact! And it's slickly produced by the legendary Dino de Laurentiis (Orca, King Kong), directed by the Godfather of Cult Cinema, Mario Bava (Planet of the Vampires), features a super-swinging score by the maestro Ennio Morricone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly), co-starring Marisa Mell (Masquerade), Michel Piccoli (Max and the Junkmen), Terry-Thomas (The Green Man) and Adolfo Celi (Largo of Thunderball).

Description
In this wild and rarely seen example of Greek exploitation cinema, Deborah Shelton - former Miss USA and star of TV's DALLAS - plays the wife of a ship's captain whose vessel is taken over by pirates. After her husband is brutally killed she is alone with a crew of rough, tough seafarers. When the pirate leader takes an interest in her she has to use all her cunning and skills - not to mention her sexuality - to stay alive and take revenge for the murder of her husband. The film is a tense and brutal story of lust and treachery on the high seas. Set entirely on a huge ship carrying an illegal cargo of dangerous nitro-glycerine, the film racks up the tension to almost unbearable levels as cross and counter cross take place among the warring parties. When a powerful cyclone threatens to sink the ship and kill all aboard, the former enemies must collaborate to save themselves. Directed by Kostas Karagiannis, the crazed genius behind such films as THE WIFE KILLER and TANGO OF PERVERSION, DANGEROUS CARGO is exploitation cinema at it's finest. Deborah Shelton, in her raunchiest role ever, is by turns scared, seductive and scheming as she takes control of the situation and springs more than a few surprises for the viewer.

*This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. Thad Beaumont is tired of writing trashy pulp novels under the pseudonym “George Stark” in order to make a living. Yearning to focus solely on scribing the intellectually stimulating literature he enjoys, Thad decides to - literally - bury his alter ego in a figurative attempt to finally break free of lucrative lowbrow temptations. However, George isn’t prepared to be laid to rest and miraculously resurrects himself out of Thad’s subconscious, fully transforming into a flesh-and-blood double and going on a grisly murder spree straight out of one of his own novels. With the police convinced that Thad is behind the series of bizarre killings, he is forced to confront his inner demons and determine where the real Thad ends and the “real” George begins in an attempt to put an end to George Stark’s rampage. Based on the thrilling novel by Stephen King (Carrie, The Shining) and directed by horror legend George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead), THE DARK HALF is a tense examination of the violent and destructive nature of the creative process. Starring Academy Award® winner Timothy Hutton (Ordinary People), Academy Award® nominee Amy Madigan (Twice in a Lifetime, Field of Dreams), and Academy Award© nominee Julie Harris (The Member of the Wedding, The Haunting), Vinegar Syndrome is proud to bring THE DARK HALF to 4K UHD, in a brand new cinematographer-approved restoration of its 35mm camera negative and featuring a comprehensive selection of new and archival extras, including never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage and interviews. Buried in the black murk of space, a stowed-away crew suddenly awakens from stasis aboard the castaway space ship known as the “Raza.” With no memory of their pasts or why they are onboard in the first place, this rag-tag crew has no choice but to roam the frontiers of the galaxy searching for answers. On their voyage they encounter rebel space armies, a zombiefied ship crew, derelict androids, and intergalactic bounty hunters—all attempting to pull the team further from the truth. Even the Raza itself contains mysteries that the crew must solve. As they journey through space, these seven strangers begin to discover that the biggest obstacle standing in the way of their pasts may not be the danger waiting around every corner, but the darkness lurking within themselves.

Description
Take elite commandos, send them on a do-or-die assignment – and sit back and watch the action explode. The men-on-a-mission formula that worked in 1967’s The Dirty Dozen and in Where Eagles Dare (released in the U.S. in 1969) provides another salvo of volatile screen adventure with this strike force saga released in 1968. Rod Taylor and Jim Brown are among a mercenary unit rolling on a steam train across the Congo, headed for the dual tasks of rescuing civilians imperiled by rebels and recovering a cache of diamonds. The film’s violence is fierce, unforgiving, ahead of its time. Quentin Tarantino would offer a tribute of sorts to this red-blooded wallop of a cult fave by using part of its compelling score in Inglourious Basterds (2009).

Description
After terrifying audiences worldwide with the blockbuster J-horror classic Ring and its sequel, director Hideo Nakata returned to the genre for Dark Water, another highly atmospheric, and critically acclaimed, tale of the supernatural which took the common theme of the “dead wet girl” to new heights of suspense and drama. Based upon on a short story by Ring author Koji Suzuki, Dark Water follows Yoshimi, a single mother struggling to win sole custody of her only child, Ikuko. When they move into a new home within a dilapidated and long-forgotten apartment complex, Yoshimi begins to experience startling visions and unexplainable sounds, calling her mental well-being into question, and endangering not only her custody of Ikuko, but perhaps their lives as well. Beautifully shot by the same cinematographer as Ring and Pulse, and featuring an especially unnerving sound design, Dark Water successfully merges spine-tingling tension with a family’s heart-wrenching emotional struggle, creating one of the very finest and most unsettling contemporary Japanese horror films. SPECIAL EDITION CONTENTS High Definition digital transfer High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations Original 5.1 audio (DTS-HD on the Blu-ray) Brand new interview with director Hideo Nakata Brand new interview with novelist Koji Suzuki Brand new interview with cinematographer Junichiro Hayashi Archive interview with actress Asami Mizukawa Original ‘Making of’ documentary Trailer Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Peter Strain First pressing only: illustrated collector’s booklet containing new writing by David Kalat, author of J-Horror: The Definitive Guide to The Ring, The Grudge and Beyond, and an examination of the American remake by writer and editor Michael Gingold
