Product Description Horror-meister John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape from New York) teams Kurt Russell's outstanding performance with incredible visuals to build this chilling version of the classic The Thing. In the winter of 1982, a twelve-man research team at a remote Antarctic research station discovers an alien buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Once unfrozen, the form-changing alien wreaks havoc, creates terror and becomes one of them. Bonus Content: U-Control: Picture in Picture Feature Commentary with Kurt Russell and Director John Carpenter Review Howard Hawks's original 1951 production of The Thing from Another World can be glimpsed playing on a TV that fateful October evening in John Carpenter's blockbuster hit, Halloween (1978). A few years later, Carpenter reteamed with his Escape from New York star Kurt Russell to do a remake. But while the first movie version of The Thing was in atmospheric black and white, Carpenter's 1982 version is in widescreen, full color, and features some of the most revoltingly explicit, surreally imaginative special effects (courtesy of FX-meister Rob Bottin) that have ever been seen on the screen. Researchers in the remote Antarctic dig up the remains of a spacecraft that has long been frozen in the ice. But the alien life unthaws and infects the living (not only humans but sled dogs too), living and gestating inside them. (This horrific concept was also explored in the two versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and the Alien movies.) This Thing is chilling in every sense of the word, with plenty of terrifying, adrenaline-pumping moments that build it to a powerful and shockingly nihilistic conclusion. It's a harsh and uncompromising movie (hewing more closely to the original 1930s story "Who Goes There?")--so much so that it probably never would have been given a green-light by any studio in the more cautious and doggedly upbeat 1990s. --Jim Emerson

Product Description Kurt Russell (MIRACLE, DEATH PROOF) and Val Kilmer (DEJA VU, THE MISSING) will blow you away in this explosive, action-packed adventure! And now, the legendary battle for justice in TOMBSTONE hits home on Blu-ray(TM) for the first time ever. Russell is U.S. Marshal Wyatt Earp; Kilmer is the outrageous Doc Holliday. Together, they team up to lay down the law in a notorious showdown with ruthless outlaws at the O.K. Corral. With an all-star cast that also includes Sam Elliott, Bill Paxton, Dana Delany, Jason Priestley, Michael Biehn and Hollywood icon Charlton Heston, this Wild West epic will transport you back in time and land you smack dab in the center of the crossfire. So strap on your six shooters as you experience the remarkable picture and theater-quality sound of TOMBSTONE in Blu-ray(TM) High Definition. Amazon.com This Western has become a modest cult favorite since its release in 1993, when the film was met with mixed reviews but the performances of Kurt Russell (as Wyatt Earp) and especially Val Kilmer, for his memorably eccentric performance as the dying gunslinger Doc Holliday, garnered high praise. The movie opens with Wyatt Earp trying to put his violent past behind him, living happily in Tombstone with his brothers and the woman (Dana Delany) who puts his soul at ease. But a murderous gang called the Cowboys has burst on the scene, and Earp can't keep his gun belt off any longer. The plot sounds routine, and in many ways it is, but Western buffs won't mind a bit thanks to a fine cast and some well-handled action on the part of Rambo director George P. Cosmatos, who has yet to make a better film than this. --Jeff Shannon

Dirk Benedict (TV’s The A-Team), sexy Melanie Griffith (Cherry 2000) and Frank Gorshin (TV’s Batman) star in this zany romantic comedy from director Robert Butler (Up the Creek, Turbulence). Deep below a posh Beverly Hills hotel you’ll find the Underground Aces—a fun-loving, fast-driving, slightly larcenous team of car-parking jockeys. Life in the underground parking lot is far from dull. There’s soccer, for a start—played with a giant weather balloon and two sports cars—then there’s false fire alarms, a kidnapping on horseback and a lovesick sheik to contend with. When the Aces aim to instruct the sheik in the intricacies of American-style romance, their scheming goes a bit too far and what started as a little simple matchmaking turns into an all-out riot complete with high-speed chases—and even a trained housefly. Underground Aces has got to be one of the funniest, wackiest, warmest films you’ll ever see! The amazing supporting cast includes Michael Winslow (Police Academy), Robert Hegyes (TV’s Welcome Back, Kotter), Sid Haig (House of 1000 Corpses), Jerry Orbach (TV’s Law & Order), T.K. Carter (Runaway Train), Randy Brooks (Reservoir Dogs), Audrey Landers (TV’s Dallas) and Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters). Chandler and Ash Hamilton • Optional English Subtitles Top About this item Similar From the Brand Reviews Underground Aces [Blu-ray]
