Bruce Lee explodes onto the screen in the film that rocketed him to international superstardom, Enter The Dragon. Recruited by an intelligence agency, martial arts student Lee (Lee--Fists of Fury, The Chinese Connection) participates in a brutal tournament at a remote island fortress in an attempt to gather enough evidence to convict the international drug-trafficker responsible for the murder of Lee's sister. In the now-classic fight-to-the-death finish, two men enter a mirrored maze, but only one will exit...

Description

Product Description Enter the Dragon would have been a B-grade James Bond knockoff were it not for the presence of Bruce Lee, whose unheralded combination of physical grace, martial arts skill, and uncanny charisma made him an international star. Sadly, the movie was released after his unexpected death--which only fueled his legendary status. The 40th Anniversary Edition of Enter the Dragon, out on Blu-ray (which makes the movie's stunning room-of-mirrors climax even more eye dazzling), comes packed with extras: warm-hearted featurettes on the making of the movie and a commentary full of fond memories by the movie's producer, Paul Heller; an extensive examination of Lee's career and the mystery surrounding his death; interview footage with Lee and a series of interviews with his widow, Linda Lee Cadwell; a featurette on wing chun, the martial arts discipline that underlies kung fu; a somewhat inexplicable series of philosophical interviews with people like boxer Sugar Ray Leonard and actor George Takei; and more. Also included are some photos and even an iron-on patch, a very 1970s touch. But out of all this material, perhaps the most compelling and even moving extra feature is a compilation of some brief home movies of Lee demonstrating martial arts moves in his backyard. Lee's enthusiasm and focus, sweetly youthful but displaying his mesmerizing physicality, will make his fans feel his loss all the more. --Bret Fetzer Amazon.com The last film completed by Bruce Lee before his untimely death, Enter the Dragon was his entrée into Hollywood. The American-Hong Kong coproduction, shot in Asia by American director Robert Clouse, stars Lee as a British agent sent to infiltrate the criminal empire of bloodthirsty Asian crime lord Han (Shih Kien) through his annual international martial arts tournament. Lee spends his days taking on tournament combatants and nights breaking into the heavily guarded underground fortress, kicking the living tar out of anyone who stands in his way. The mix of kung fu fighting (choreographed by Lee himself) and James Bond intrigue (the plot has more than a passing resemblance to Dr. No) is pulpy by any standard, but the generous budget and talented cast of world-class martial artists puts this film in a category well above Lee's earlier Hong Kong productions. Unfortunately he's off the screen for large chunks of time as American maverick competitors (and champion martial artists) John Saxon and Jim Kelly take center stage, but once the fighting starts Lee takes over. The tournament setting provides an ample display of martial arts mastery of many styles and climaxes with a huge free-for-all, but the highlight is Lee's brutal one-on-one with the claw-fisted Han in the dynamic hall-of-mirrors battle. Lee narrows his eyes and tenses into a wiry force of sinew, speed, and ruthless determination. --Sean Axmaker

A town has been taken hostage. Who will win the battle? Only the mighty will survive. Welcome back to the Arrow Video Store! In the late '80s and early '90s boom of DTV action films, vengeance was a key theme amongst the bullet-ridden gun fights, vehicular explosions, helicopters and the muscly-man on a mission. In this second edition of Arrow Video's Enter the Video Store boxset, we collate some of the more underrated and lesser-seen gems from the period, featuring a wonderfully nostalgic cast list, including Dolph Lundgren, Yaphet Kotto, John Saxon, John Schneider, Ken Foree, David Hasselhoff and scores more. In Ministry of Vengeance, Vietnam vet and devoted minister Rev. David Miller (John Schneider) puts down his Bible in exchange for an assault rifle to take revenge on the Lebanese terrorists who murdered his family. Meanwhile, in The Final Alliance, ex-Marine Will Colton (David Hasselhoff) returns to his small hometown with his pet puma to take on a corrupt sheriff and a gang of bikers led by an albino named Ghost (John Saxon). The hugely enjoyable cult classic R.O.T.O.R. presents a rogue robotic cop who takes to the streets of Dallas acting as judge, jury and executioner - and only its creator, robotics expert Barrett Coldyron, can stop him! In Peter Maris' film Hangfire, Vietnam veteran and local Sheriff Ike Slayton (Brad Davis) teams up with his old army friend, Billy (Ken Foree), to rescue his wife held hostage by a large group of escaped convicts. Finally, stunt legend Vic Armstrong's directorial debut Joshua Tree sees Dolph Lundgren on the run and seeking revenge against the corrupt cop (George Segal) who framed him and put him behind bars. In 1961, director Mario Bava (Rabid Dogs, Kill Baby Kill) turned his hand to the historical adventure genre, capitalizing on the recent success of 1958’s Kirk Douglas vehicle The Vikings. The result was a colorful, swashbuckling epic of treachery, heroism and forbidden love: Erik the Conqueror. In 786 AD, the invading Viking forces are repelled from the shores of England, leaving behind a young boy – Erik, son of the slain Viking king. Years later, Erik (George Ardisson, Juliet of the Spirits), raised by the English queen as her own, becomes Duke of Helford, while across the sea, his brother Eron (Cameron Mitchell, Blood and Black Lace) assumes leadership of the Viking horde and sets his sights on conquering England once again, setting the two estranged brothers on a collision course that will determine the fates of their respective kingdoms… Featuring a bombastic score by frequent collaborator Roberto Nicolosi (Black Sunday) and memorably co-starring the stunning Kessler twins (Sodom and Gomorrah), Erik the Conqueror showcases Bava’s immense talent for creating awe-inspiring spectacle with limited resources. Now restored in high definition for the first time, Arrow Video is proud to present this cult classic in all its original splendor.
