Tired of playing supporting roles in Hollywood, Anna May Wong traveled to Europe in search of better parts. And did she find one! Her electric, sexually charged performance in Piccadilly is a revelation. Wong is mesmerizing as Shosho, the Chinese dishwasher who overnight becomes the toast of the town — and the object of every man’s desire. The camera adores Wong — her beauty glows in every frame. Piccadilly was the brilliant apex to director E. A. Dupont’s trilogy of theater films (Varieté and Moulin Rouge), showcasing his signature mix of great acting, dazzling imagery and balletic camera movements. Remastered by the BFI National Archive and presented in High Definition. Special Features: • Audio commentary by film historian Farran Smith Nehme • Introduction to the 1929 sound version • Neil Brand on the score for Piccadilly • San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival panel: “Dangerous to Know: The Career and Legacy of Anna May Wong,” moderated by B. Ruby Rich

Description
This sensual and striking chronicle of a disappearance and its aftermath put director Peter Weir on the map and helped usher in a new era of Australian cinema. Based on an acclaimed 1967 novel by Joan Lindsay, Picnic at Hanging Rock is set at the turn of the twentieth century and concerns a small group of students from an all-female college who vanish, along with a chaperone, while on a St. Valentine’s Day outing. Less a mystery than a journey into the mystic, as well as an inquiry into issues of class and sexual repression in Australian society, Weir’s gorgeous, disquieting film is a work of poetic horror whose secrets haunt viewers to this day. DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K digital restoration, supervised and approved by director Peter Weir and director of photography Russell Boyd, with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features Interview with Weir Program on the making of the film, featuring interviews with executive producer Patricia Lovell, producers Hal McElroy and Jim McElroy, and cast members Introduction by film scholar David Thomson, author of The New Biographical Dictionary of Film On-set documentary hosted by Lovell and featuring interviews with Weir, actor Rachel Roberts, and source-novel author Joan Lindsay Homesdale (1971), a black comedy by Weir Trailer English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing PLUS: An essay by author Megan Abbott and an excerpt from film scholar Marek Haltof’s 1996 book Peter Weir: When Cultures Collide

Description
The great Jacques Demy (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) directed this masterful retelling of the classic children's tale. Set in the Middle Ages, the divided town of Hamelin tries in vain to rid itself of the Black Plague. Music legend Donovan plays a mysterious musician who arrives in town promising to rid the town of their rat infestation by playing his magical flute, but the townspeople cannot put aside their personal agendas and ask the piper to help them with other deeds, as the town s petty and greedy leader, the sublimely creepy Donald Pleasence (Halloween) attempts to take advantage of their new savior. With great music and spectacular costumes and sets, The Pied Piper is a fascinating take on a familiar legend. Wonderfully shot by Peter Suschitzky (The Empire Strikes Back) and featuring a splendid cast that includes John Hurt (Alien), Jack Wild (Oliver!), Peter Vaughan (Straw Dogs), Roy Kinnear (How I Won the War), Michael Hordern (The Bed Sitting Room), Cathryn Harrison (Black Moon) and Diana Dors (A Kid for Two Farthings). Dissatisfied in marriage and life, Ferdinand (Jean-Paul Belmondo) takes to the road with the babysitter, his ex-lover Marianne Renoir (Anna Karina), and leaves the bourgeois world behind. Yet this is no normal road trip: the tenth feature in six years by genius auteur Jean-Luc Godard is a stylish mash-up of anticonsumerist satire, au courant politics, and comic-book aesthetics, as well as a violent, zigzag tale of, as Godard called them, “the last romantic couple.” With blissful color imagery by cinematographer Raoul Coutard and Belmondo and Karina at their most animated, Pierrot le fou is one of the high points of the French New Wave, and was Godard’s last frolic before he moved ever further into radical cinema. Deep in the jungle, they hunted the diamonds... the woman... and each other! From Delbert Mann, the outstanding director of Marty, Separate Tables, That Touch of Mink, Fitzwilly and Kidnapped, comes the exciting comedy-adventure The Pink Jungle. James Garner (Support Your Local Sheriff) stars as irritable fashion photographer Ben Morris, who is shooting an ad campaign in the jungles of South America with his beautiful model, Alison (Eva Renzi, Funeral in Berlin). Things take an unexpected turn when Ben’s helicopter is stolen by reckless explorer Sammy Ryderbeit (George Kennedy, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot). When they finally locate Sammy, he tells them a wild story about a diamond mine in the area, and before long, the three begin the search for the mine. An unscrupulous Australian (Nigel Green, Let’s Kill Uncle) and a rival band of treasure hunters (led by Michael Ansara, Texas Across the River) also vie for the loot. This light-hearted spoof of jungle thrillers is packed with terrific moments, particularly in the comic interplay between the exasperated Garner and the wild-eyed Kennedy! Description
Let me bring you up to speed. We know nothing. Now you are up to speed. Thus is the bumbling, deadpan persona of Inspector Clouseau, as re-invented by Steve Martin, best summed up. In this sequel to the 2006 remake of the classic Peter Sellers films, Martin gets crisper direction and a smarter script than he did the first time out. Martin, to his great credit, has never been afraid to make himself look foolish or to take pratfalls--and if the viewer finds these remakes to be less satirical than the original Sellers films, he will still be letting our great laughs and chuckles through the course of the film. And what a cast! Martin is joined by John Cleese, Jeremy Irons, Lily Tomlin, Jean Reno, Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai, Emily Mortimer, Alfred Molina, and Andy Garcia--all of whom seem to be having a delightful romp--a feeling thatǃÙs contagious. The story picks up where the last film ended, with ClouseauǃÙs having saved the precious Pink Panther diamond in Paris. Since then, Clouseau has been reassigned to parking-ticket duty, to keep him off the frayed nerves of Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Cleese). But a band of international thieves is wreaking havoc on the worldǃÙs treasures, and, before you can say "minkey", the priceless Pink Panther goes missing, again. If plotǃÙs a bit predictable, itǃÙs no matter, since the "phun" is in the haplessness of Clouseau and the rings of nuclear fallout that surround him. And you may never pronounce "hamburger" the same way. "Evair"!--"A.T. Hurley"

Joining their ranks are veteran Warners helmer Robert McKimson (PINK DA VINCI) and artful behind-the-scenes DePatie-Freleng multi-tasker Art Leonardi (PINK PLASMA, PINK CAMPAIGN). In this next-to-last phase of the Pink Panther's amazing run of new theatrical short-subjects, newsworthy mid-to-late 1970s trends and fads such as Rock'em-Sock'em robots (PINK ARCADE), compulsive dieting (DIETETIC PINK), and the merchandizing of "pet rocks" (Art Leonardi's ROCKY PINK) come into focus. Fairy-tale spoofs (PINK PIPER, CAT AND THE BEANSTALK) make a modest comeback, but much more impressive are brand-new wrinkles on familiar Panther themes like sleep deprivation (Art Davis's PINK TRUMPET), wars against a pesky fly (turning positively apocalyptic in Sid Marcus's PINK S.W.A.T.) and journeys through surreality (SHERLOCK PINK, Robert McKimson's last and probably best "Panther" pic). Special Features: -NEW Audio commentaries for selected films, by author Mark Arnold, historian Jerry Beck, filmmaker Greg Ford and cartoon writer William Hohauser -Think Pink - How to Draw Pink Panther with Art Leonardi (4:14) -Animated Main Titles For All 8 Blake Edward Pink Panther Films (9:00)

Product Description This collection of the historically vital works of America's legendary first African-American filmmakers is the only one of its kind. Funded in part by a highly successful Kickstarter campaign, the packaged set includes no fewer than a dozen feature-length films and nearly twice as many shorts and rare fragments. Subject matter includes race issues that went unaddressed by Hollywood for decades. Films: Birthright (1938), The Blood of Jesus (1941), Body and Soul (1925), The Bronze Buckaroo (1939), By Right of Birth (fragment, 1921), Commandment Keeper Church, Beaufort, South Carolina (excerpt, 1940), The Darktown Revue (1931), Dirty Gertie from Harlem USA (1946), Eleven P.M. (1930), The Exile (1931), The Flying Ace (1926), God s Stepchildren (1938), Heaven-Bound Traveler (1933), Hellbound Train (1930), Hot Biskits (1931), Mercy the Mummy Mumbled (1918), Regeneration (fragment, 1923), The Scar of Shame (1929), S.S. Jones Home Movies (1924-26), The Symbol of the Unconquered: A Story of the KKK (1920), Ten Minutes to Live (1932), Ten Nights in a Bar Room (1926), Two Knights of Vaudeville (1918), Veiled Aristocrats (1932), Verdict Not Guilty (1934), We Work Again (1937), Within Our Gates (1920) Musical scores (for silent films) by Paul D. Miller (aka DJ Spooky), Max Roach, Samuel D. Waymon, the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, Donald Sosin, Makia Matsumura, Rob Gal, Andrew Simpson Bonus Features: Optional English Subtitles, 80-page booklet with essays and detailed film notes, Interviews with series curators Charles Musser and Jacqueline Stewart, Documentary on the restoration of the films, Documentary on the restoration efforts of the Library of Congress, Archival interview with actors Ethel and Lucia Moses (1978), Tyler Texas Black Film Collection promo film (with Ossie Davis, 1985) and more! Review "One of the year s most exciting and historically significant archival projects, Kino Lorber s Pioneers of African American Cinema collects nearly 20 hours of feature films and short subjects created by and starring entrepreneurial black entertainers between the 20s and 40s. These race films run the gamut from musicals to melodramas to westerns, and showcase the talents of American masters such as Oscar Micheaux, Spencer Williams, Paul Robeson and Zora Neale Hurston. Given that most of these pictures played well outside any kind of traditional distribution system, they ve always been in danger of getting lost, which makes the preservation efforts behind this set all the more heroic. These are important documents of a truly independent cinema, produced outside of a Hollywood that had little interest in what these artists had to offer." -Noel Murray --LATimes.com

Newly remastered from the original Technicolor negatives! A treasure trove of fun awaits when a Caribbean beauty (Judy Garland) with a mad crush on a legendary pirate meets a vagabond actor (Gene Kelly) who poses as the scoundrel. Vincente Minnelli directs, bringing his uncanny skill with color and design to this joyous romp set to Cole Porter tunes. Mixing tremulous girlishness with hellcat hilarity, Garland was never better as a comedienne. Parodying the rakish style of Fairbanks and Barrymore, Kelly duels, dupes and dances with buccaneer bravado. All by itself, his "Be a Clown" (danced with the Nicholas Brothers and reprised with Garland) is enough to convince all to be a fan of The Pirate.
