Legendary screen icons Gary Cooper (High Noon, Beau Geste) and Burt Lancaster (The Train, Elmer Gantry) team up for a magnificent, action-packed western from director Robert Aldrich (The Dirty Dozen, The Last Sunset). With sweeping vistas and larger-than-life heroics, it’s a tale as bold and rugged as the characters it so brilliantly depicts. Cooper and Lancaster portray Benjamin Trane and Joe Erin, two daredevil mercenaries who journey to Mexico in search of adventure—and cold hard cash—during the 1866 revolution. But they get more than they bargained for when the wealthy and beautiful Countess Duvarre (Denise Darcel, Westward the Women) hires them to escort her (and a fortune in gold!) to Emperor Maximilian’s fighting forces in Vera Cruz. The trail is fraught with danger, betrayal and murder... and when Ben is swept up in the revolutionaries’ fervor, he and Joe find themselves at odds with the Mexican Army—and each other! Adapted by Roland Kibbee (Valdez Is Coming) and James R. Webb (The Big Country) from a story by Borden Chase (Red River), Vera Cruz features supporting turns from Cesar Romero (TV’s Batman), George Macready (Gilda), Jack Elam (Rawhide), Ernest Borgnine (Marty) and Charles Bronson (Breakheart Pass). Special Features: -Brand New 2K Master -NEW Audio Commentary by Filmmaker Alex Cox -TRAILERS FROM HELL with John Landis -Theatrical Trailer -Optional English Subtitles

On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Salzburg Easter Festival presents a 'Re-creation' of Die Walküre, specifically, of Herbert von Karajan's musico-theatrical vision of the 19th century masterwork, with which the legendary Maestro opened the very first Easter Festival in 1967. The top-ranking ensemble of singers performs in the faithfully reconstructed scenery of the original production with impressive video backdrops inspired by the original glass paintings. Christian Thielemann, who has been assistant of Karajan in his beginnings, counts among the world's foremost Wagner conductors, ''… there is an absolute polish to this performance that is exceptional'' writes the Financial Times about the conductor and orchestra. The critics are full of praise for this ''musically ravishing Walküre'' (Frankfurter Allgmeine) and its ''excellent ensemble of soloists''. As Sieglinde, Anja Harteros is ''enchanting and elegant'', Peter Seiffert ''amazingly presents a steady and expressive Siegmund'', Christa Mayer ''shows off as irresistible, throroughbred Fricka'' and Anja Kampe is celebrated as ''outstanding Brünnhilde'' (Süddeutsche Zeitung). ''Musically it was superb.'' (The Spectator)
