Earl Macklin robs a bank owned by the mob, serves his prison time and is released, only to start a war against the crime outfit that owned the bank. NOBODY PLAYS ROUGHER THAN THE OUTFIT... EXCEPT MAYBE EARL, CODY AND BETT! Before he embarked on a roaring rampage of revenge with 1977's Rolling Thunder, director John Flynn made The Outfit, a hard-boiled thriller par excellence, based on a novel by Richard Stark (aka Donald E. Westlake), one of the greatest crime writers who ever lived. Earl Macklin (Robert Duvall, The Godfather) is a professional thief. Once upon a time, he and his brother Eddie robbed a bank together. Unfortunately, that bank was owned by criminal syndicate "The Outfit". Now Eddie is dead and it looks like Earl is next. But "The Outfit" hasn't counted on Earl's iron will. Released from a 27-month stretch in prison, Earl wants to get even and, with girlfriend Bett (Karen Black, Five Easy Pieces) and best friend Cody (Joe Don Baker, Walking Tall), he begins a private war to avenge the death of his brother. The entire criminal underworld is about to learn an unforgettable lesson: never mess with Earl Macklin. With a score by Peckinpah regular Jerry Fielding, gritty cinematography by Bruce Surtees (The Shootist), and a veritable rogues gallery of classic character actors including Robert Ryan (The Wild Bunch), Timothy Carey (The Killing), Richard Jaeckel (The Dirty Dozen), and Bill McKinney (Deliverance), The Outfit is as tough, taut, and relentless as its protagonist. Description

Directed by Academy Award winner Ron Howard, The Paper brings the fast-paced, cutthroat, frequently hilarious world of newspaper journalism vividly to life. It's editorial bedlam during the course of one hectic, twenty-four hour period at the New York Sun. In order to make the morning edition and scoop the competition, Henry Hackett (Michael Keaton) must race against the clock to expose a major scandal or two innocent men will go to prison. Thwarting him at every turn is his ambitious managing editor (Glenn Close) who seems more concerned with staying on budget than printing the truth. At the same time, Hackett's wife (Marisa Tomei) is about to give birth to their first child and she's pressuring him to take a cushier, less demanding position with a rival newspaper. Meanwhile, facing their own private demons are columnist Dan McDougal (Randy Quaid) and senior editor Bernie White (Robert Duvall).

Description

Unsure of herself, months pregnant and feeling trapped, Natalie Ravenna leaves her sleeping husband a note and drives away from her Long Island home one rainy morning to find herself. Natalie is the heroine of Francis Ford Coppola's intensely moving drama, The Rain People. Ahead of its time from both its filmmaking and feminist points of view, the film took Coppola and his eight-vehicle crew through eighteen states, lending this poignant tale a realistic, rootless tone. On board were three actors who brought a searing truth to the project: Shirley Knight as Natalie, and future stars of The Godfather James Caan and Robert Duvall as the lonely men who bring tenderness and tragedy Natalie's way. What they and Coppola brought our way is a movie that remains powerful, touching and relevant decades after its production.
