Product Description This 1971 Italian/Spanish Giallo is a hugely enjoyable and very stylish murder mystery set on the luxurious Côte d'Azur. Spanish director José María Forqué - who later made the controversial Beyond Erotica - brings together a talented and good looking cast, one of the best cinematographers of the day (Alejandro Ulloa) and a fantastic, lounge style score from Maestro Piccioni to create a twisty, and twisted, tale of deception and revenge. The director's long career at the more prestigious end of Spanish cinema and the presence of award winning scripter Rafael Azcona - who worked with many top European film makers - give the film an edge of sophistication alongside it's enjoyably devious narrative. Review "The story unfolds in an extremely clever way and has a few very unexpected twists and turns... A highly recommended slice of early 70s thriller writing." ---Letterboxd.com "Unpredictable twists and turns along the way to a pleasingly ironic denouement." ---Giallo Fever "Director José María Forqué delivers a winning hand..." ---Adrian Luther Smith - Blood and Black Lace

Discovering that exiled Algerian OAS terrorist Sadiel (Gian Maria Volontè, For a Few Dollars More) is about to return to France, both the CIA and the French Secret Service go on red alert. They blackmail a journalist, François Darien (Jean-Louis Trintignant, The Conformist), into helping them to entice Sadiel to Paris, in order to assassinate him. Meanwhile Michael Howard (Roy Scheider, The Seven-Ups) discovers the double-cross, only to be warned off by the CIA, who are quite happy to have the French dig their own political grave. A taut, gripping drama unfolds, as two secret service agencies fight for superiority on the streets of Paris. Yves Boisset (Dog Day) directed this political thriller based largely on the true story of the Mehdi Ben Barka affair, with music by the great Ennio Morricone (The Sicilian Clan) and a loaded international cast including Michel Piccoli (Max and the Junkmen), Jean Seberg (Breathless), Michel Bouquet (The Unfaithful Wife), Bruno Cremer (Sorcerer), Daniel Ivernel (Ulysses), Philippe Noiret (Topaz), François Périer (Le Samouraï) and Nigel Davenport (Phase IV). Special Features: • 4K Restoration from the Original Camera Negative • Includes both the Original French and English Dub Cuts

Matteo Garrone’s Gomorrah is a stark, shocking vision of contemporary gangsterdom, and one of cinema’s most authentic depictions of organized crime. In this tour de force adaptation of undercover Italian reporter Roberto Saviano’s best-selling exposé of Naples’ Mafia underworld (known as the Camorra), Garrone links five disparate tales in which men and children are caught up in a corrupt system that extends from the housing projects to the world of haute couture. Filmed with an exquisite detachment interrupted by bursts of violence, Gomorrah is a shattering, socially engaged true-crime story from a major new voice in Italian cinema. Many stars saddled up and rode into Technicolor sunsets during the great Western revival of the 1950s, but only a few would be forever associated with the rugged individualists of the West. Among them are John Wayne, Randolph Scott and the star of The Hanging Tree, Gary Cooper. The story takes place in Skull Creek, an 1870s Montana gold camp. Dr. Joseph Frail (Cooper) arrives, setting out his shingle near the camp’s boom-or-bust hubbub of adventurers, ladies of fortune, mountain men and just plain decent folks. As skilled with a six-gun as with a scalpel, Frail will need both. A tragic past shadows his days. The treachery of the mob clouds his future. A determined immigrant (Maria Schell), a shifty-eyed miner (Karl Malden) and a hellfire preacher (debuting George C. Scott) figure prominently in Frail’s showdown with fate. Prominent, too, is the breathtaking countryside. Here, the mountains are imposing. And a man alone looms ever taller.

The provocative Italian filmmaker Elio Petri’s most internationally acclaimed work is this remarkable, visceral, Oscar-winning thriller. Petri maintains a tricky balance between absurdity and realism in telling the Kafkaesque tale of a Roman police inspector (a commanding Gian Maria Volontè) investigating a heinous crime—which he himself committed. Both a compelling character study and a disturbing commentary on the draconian government crackdowns in Italy in the late 1960s and early ’70s, Petri’s kinetic portrait of surreal bureaucracy is a perversely pleasurable rendering of controlled chaos. Mondo Macabro THE KILLER IS NOT ALONE - The world Blu-ray premier of a rare Spanish psycho thriller! Julio, the only son of a wealthy businessman, living in the coastal city of Avilés in the north of Spain, is a young man with many problems, including a pathological fear of women due to a psychological trauma he suffered during his childhood. One night, as he prowls the sleazier quarters of the city, he picks up a prostitute and follows her to a seedy hotel room. As she tries to arouse him to action, he responds violently, garrotting her with a length of piano wire, leaving her dead on the bed, covered with blood. Julio takes the train to Madrid and checks into a boarding house in the city. He is much younger than the rest of the residents and soon Monica, the boarding house owner's teenage daughter, finds herself attracted to the new arrival. More murders by the sinister "wire killer" are reported in the newspapers and it seems the police have no clue as to who it might be. As Monica gets ever closer to the troubled Julio her mother tries to warn her off the young man. But it's too late; and soon it seems likely that Monica herself will fall victim to the dreaded "wire killer". This was director García de Dueñas's only feature film. He worked mostly for TV and was a noted film critic in Spain. This is the film's world premiere on Blu-ray and its first appearance, in any form, in the US. *This listing is for the standard edition version and does NOT come with a limited edition slipcase!* Without shared names, backstories, or even a prior relationship, two strangers become entangled in a chaotic, lustful affair centered around a studio apartment in the city of love. On their own in the streets of Paris, Paul and Jeanne work their way through everything from carefree adventures to the tristesse of mourning a lost love while the apartment becomes their sultry sanctuary from the outside world. As their fling evolves into something that resembles love, the ugliness of the outside world that they both sought to escape forces its way into their relationship, changing both of them forever. With lush cinematography by three-time Academy Award winner Vittorio Storaro (Apocalypse Now) and a carefully structured narrative co-written and directed by Bernardo Bertolucci (1900), LAST TANGO IN PARIS pushes the boundaries of cinema in the city of its birth. Marlon Brando (The Godfather) plays Paul, the middle-aged man who uses the apartment to escape from a traumatic death, while Maria Schneider (The Passenger) stars opposite as Jeanne, an exuberant Parisian woman who uses the fling to gain a feeling of independence from prior emotional commitments. Mondo Macabro presents THE LAUGHING WOMAN - The world Blu-ray premier of an Italian pop-art masterpiece. In this deliciously twisted pop art extravaganza, Dagmar Lassander plays Maria, a woman employed in the press office of a large philanthropic organization run by the stern Dr Sayer. One Friday she visits his house to collect some journals. She accepts a drink from him and the next thing she knows she is chained to a metal frame in a room bathed in a sickly red light. Sayer tells her she is now his prisoner and he can do anything he likes with her - even kill her. What follows is an astonishing game of cat and mouse, as Maria uses all her skills to stay alive, while secretly exploring Sayer's weaknesses. As the story progresses we start to see the characters in a very different light. Is Sayer the demonic psychopath he claims to be? And is Maria really the innocent victim? With its iconic, late 60's production design and a brilliant music score by renowned composer Stelvio Cipriani, THE LAUGHING WOMAN is stylish and sophisticated entertainment that questions all our prejudices and preconceptions about the relationship between men and women.
