Vinegar Syndrome specializes in the masterful restoration and distribution of cult, horror, and erotic films from the 1960s-90s. A struggling Hollywood actress haunted by memories of an invasive childhood trauma, Rose is driven to the edge by life-changing news, an upcoming high-pressure audition, and the controlling machinations of her boyfriend's lunatic mother. Escaping to the small mountain town of Idyllwild during a forest fire, Rose hides out in a kitschy honeymoon motel where she soon finds herself trapped in a twisted, magenta-tinged fairytale. The humming halls of the lurid, bizarre Crown Inn become the blood-soaked stage for an epic battle in which Rose's inner demons are made incarnate. Taking various forms, including a deranged bellhop, a pickled proprietress, and the sharp-tongued seductress in the room next door, an intense confrontation with the deepest and darkest sources of Rose's pain looms before her. The debut feature from director Julie Pacino, I LIVE HERE NOW is a psychosexual thriller told in hyper-saturated hues, boldly exposing pregnancy fears, self-harm, CPTSD, and beyond through a surreal feminist lens. Led by Lucy Fry's fearless performance, the film co-stars Madeline Brewer, Lara Clear, and Sarah Rich as the weird women of the Crown Inn, and features mesmerizing turns from Cara Seymour (American Psycho, The Knick) and Sheryl Lee (Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me). Like a neon-dipped Repulsion, I LIVE HERE NOW was filmed on 16mm and 35mm film, bringing the Pepto pinks and velvet blues to giallo-tinged life. Vinegar Syndrome Pictures is thrilled to bring this daring initial feature from a new, visionary filmmaker to Blu-ray with hours of extras featuring the cast and crew. Bonus Features: 1. Product Description This Oscar®-winning thriller (Best Foreign Language Film, 2006) tells the erotic story of an East German couple whose every intimate moment is being monitored by the Secret Police hoping to learn information that could destroy their lives. Amazon.com Nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, this is a first-rate thriller that, like Bertolucci's The Conformist and Coppola's The Conversation, opts for character development over car chases. The place is East Berlin, the year is 1984, and it all begins with a simple surveillance assignment: Capt. Gerd Wiesler (Ulrich Mühe in a restrained, yet deeply felt performance), a Stasi officer and a specialist in this kind of thing, has been assigned to keep an eye on Georg Dreyman (Sebastian Koch, Black Book), a respected playwright, and his actress girlfriend, Christa-Maria Sieland (Martina Gedeck, Mostly Martha). Though Dreyman is known to associate with the occasional dissident, like blacklisted director Albert Jerska (Volkmar Kleinert), his record is spotless. Everything changes when Wiesler discovers that Minister Hempf (Thomas Thieme) has an ulterior motive in spying on this seemingly upright citizen. In other words, it's personal, and Wiesler's sympathies shift from the government to its people--or at least to this one particular person. That would be risky enough, but then Wiesler uses his privileged position to affect a change in Dreyman's life. The God-like move he makes may be minor and untraceable, but it will have major consequences for all concerned, including Wiesler himself. Writer/director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck starts with a simple premise that becomes more complicated and emotionally involving as his assured debut unfolds. Though three epilogues is, arguably, two too many, The Lives of Others is always elegant, never confusing. It's class with feeling. --Kathleen C.
