Description
Rio Grande, the third and final installment in John Ford’s loosely-conceived Cavalry Trilogy (preceded by Fort Apache and She Wore A Yellow Ribbon) stars John Wayne as Lt. Col. John Kirby Yorke (the role he inhabited in Fort Apache) alongside Maureen O’Hara (in the first of five films she’d co-star in alongside Wayne) as his estranged wife, Kathleen, a woman set on keeping their son, Jefferson (Claude Jarman Jr., The Yearling), now under Yorke’s command, out of harm’s way. Filmed throughout Moab, Utah and the majestic Professor Valley – photographed in exquisite gradations of black and white by Stagecoach cinematographer Bert Glennon – Rio Grande offers nuanced observations on love, family, and honor, while firmly adhering to the western genre, showing Ford at his most measured and mature as a storyteller. Written by James Kevin McGuinness (Men of Boys Town) based on the Saturday Evening Post story by James Warner Bellah, Rio Grande features J. Carrol Naish and a supporting cast of familiar faces, many of them from the Ford stock company of actors including Harry Carey, Jr., Ben Johnson, Victor McLaglen, Chill Wills, and Grant Withers." "OLIVE SIGNATURE FEATURES - New High-Definition digital restoration - Audio commentary by Nancy Schoenberger - ""Telling Real Histories"" – Raoul Trujillo on representations of Indigenous Americans in film - ""Songs of the Rio Grande"" – Marc Wanamaker on the Sons of the Pioneers - ""Strength and Courage"" – Patrick Wayne on his father - ""Bigger Than Life"" – with Claude Jarman, Jr. - Visual essay by Tag Gallagher - ""The Making of Rio Grande"" – with Leonard Maltin - Essay by Paul Andrew Hutton - Theatrical trailer RIO GRANDE (OLIVE SIGNATURE)

Working together for the 12th time, John Wayne and director John Ford forged The Searchers into a landmark Western offering an indelible image of the frontier and the men and women who challenged it. Wayne plays an ex-Confederate soldier seeking his niece, captured by Comanches who massacred his family. He won't surrender to hunger, thirst, the elements or loneliness. And in his five-year search, he encounters something unexpected: his own humanity. Beautifully photographed by Winston C. Hoch, thrillingly scored by Max Steiner, and memorably acted by a superb ensemble including Jeffrey Hunter, Vera Miles, Natalie Wood and Ward Bond, The Searchers endures as a great film of enormous scope and breathtaking physical beauty (Danny Peary, Guide for the Film Fanatic). Named the greatest American Western by the American Film Institute in 2008, The Searchers was among the first 25 films deemed culturally or aesthetically significant by the U.S. Library of Congress in 1989, when it was inducted in its National Film Registry. Now meticulously restored from its original negative, this new presentation of The Searchers presents this masterpiece with unparalleled image quality, accompanied by an impressive array of special features.

Marlene Dietrich (Desire) stars opposite John Wayne (Rio Bravo) as sexy saloon singer Bijou Blanche, who’s as quick with a comeback as she is with a come-on, in Seven Sinners. Deported from every South Sea island on which she has ever performed, Bijou winds up in Boni Komba at the Seven Sinners Café, convincing the manager that she will break only hearts, not bar stools. Bijou soon charms a handsome Navy officer (Wayne), who falls deeply in love with the woman his superiors refer to as a naval destroyer. When a spiteful admirer of Bijou’s resorts to violence to keep the lovers apart, the glamorous chanteuse proves she will do anything—especially the unexpected—for the man she loves. Dietrich sizzles on screen singing her trademark, husky renditions of “I’ve Been in Love Before” and “The Man’s in the Navy” in this sultry tropical romance. Directed by Tay Garnett (Bataan) and featuring wonderful supporting performances by Albert Dekker (Dr. Cyclops), Broderick Crawford (Born Yesterday), Anna Lee (The Crimson Kimono), Mischa Auer (My Man Godfrey), Billy Gilbert (The Great Dictator), Oskar Homolka (Ball of Fire) and Reginald Denny (Skinner’s Dress Suit). Special Features: -NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian David Del Valle -Theatrical Trailer -Optional English Subtitles

Description
A masterpiece of mood and heroics, this second film in director John Ford's renowned cavalry trilogy (Fort Apache and Rio Grande are the others) features one of John Wayne's most moving performances, as a cavalry officer in his final week of service on the frontier. Under makeup aging him some 20 years, he inhabits the role of a wily veteran who knows the sting of war and vows to make his last mission one of peace. The ritual of outpost life, the sweep of battle, the advance of the patrol beneath ominous skies: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, an Academy Award"' winner* for its color cinematography, paints a memorable portrait of the honor, duty and courage in the finest tradition of the cavalry. And of Ford filmmaking.

Product Description “I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” Legendary director Don Siegel (Dirty Harry) directs the iconic John Wayne as an ageing gunfighter dying of cancer in his final screen appearance, a superb adaptation of Glendon Swarthout's classic western novel, The Shootist. John Bernard Books is the stuff of legend, a renowned ‘shootist’ whose reputation looms large. But it’s 1901, and like the old west, John is dying and a reputation like his draws trouble like an outhouse draws flies. As word spreads that the famous gunfighter is on his last legs, the vultures begin to gather; old enemies, the marshal, newspaper men, an undertaker, all eager to see him dead. Other men might die quietly in bed or take their own lives, but J. B. Books will choose his executioner and face down death with a pistol in each hand. With an outstanding cast that features not only Wayne, but James Stewart, Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard, Scatman Crothers and John Carradine, The Shootist is an elegiac ode to a monumental screen presence and to the Western genre itself. Supplies are dwindling. Troops are hopelessly outnumbered. But even in defeat there is victory. The defenders of the Philippines -- including PT-boat skippers John Brickley (Robert Montgomery) and Rusty Ryan (John Wayne) -- will give the U.S. war effort time to regroup after the devastation of Pearl Harbor. Director John Ford's World War II tale knows its battle-scarred topic firsthand. Montgomery was himself a Pacific PT-boat commander and a valorous Bronze Star recipient. Ford filmed the Academy Award-winning documentary The Battle of Midway. And Wayne creates a portrait of patriotic resolve as only he can. They Were Expendable salutes all who expended themselves during some of the war's bleakest hours.

Description
The Three Mesquiteers was the umbrella title for a series of fifty-one B-westerns released between 1936 and 1943. The films featured the characters Stony Brooke, Tucson Smith and Lullaby Joslin or Rusty Joslin as the threesome; played by many B-western stars of that era. In 1938, John Wayne took over for Robert Livingston as Stony Brooke and starred in eight Mesquiteers films between 1938 and 1939, he was joined by Ray Corrigan as Tucson Smith and Max Terhune as Lullaby Joslin for the first six and Raymond Hatton as Rusty Joslin for the last two... all eight films were directed by George Sherman (Big Jake). John Ford's Stagecoach was perfectly sandwiched between the eight films and John Wayne portrayal of the outlaw gunfighter made him a superstar and ended Wayne's Stony Brooke run... Livingston was rehired as Brooke and went on to make fourteen more Mesquiteers films and for an incredible total of twenty-nine. Three Texas Steers (the sixth of eight Wayne Mesquiteers films) co-stars Carole Landis as Nancy Evans, a lovely circus owner whose crooked manager, George Ward (Ralph Graves) sabotages her circus with a series of mysterious incidents, so she has no choice, but to sell the ranch her grandfather left her in Mesquite County. Bankrupted and broke, Nancy and her band of carnies decide to move to Mesquite and live on the ranch until they're back on their feet. Ward and is cohorts vow to drive Nancy off her ranch, but standing in their way are Nancy's new neighbors, the Three Mesquiteers. This was Max Terhune's twenty-first and final appearance as Lullaby Joslin.
